  1. Thank you both so much for your help! I am just so nervous, I guess I should save my nervousness for when I am alone huh? :) It does not help that I go for orientation as soon as I finish my Mirco final this morning. NERVOUS!!!!! Hopefully all will go well, on one hand I am just so grateful to get a healthcare job and on the other hand I am a nervous wreak..... At clincals we had only 3 total cares at a time and I still cannot fathom how it all gets done in the real situation. I guess I will learn. (I hope) again, thank you both so very much, I will post back later and let you know how it all went :) Have a great day :)
  2. Hi all, I finally got a call today from the facility I applied at, she said my background check and reference check went well and asked if I could come for orientation tomorrow! I am so excited..... but, I have never done any of this before. I am 31 with three kids and worked for a restaurant for 15 years until it closed a year ago. I am still a little surprised that they did not request an interview. I am a little scared because I do not know what to expect at orientation. I will be per-diem, which is exactly what I want due to nursing school and kids. I am just so excited about my very first health-care position. If anybody can give me an idea of how orientation, and training work at a LTC facility I would really appreciate the insight :) Thank you all in advance!
  3. Hi, I took my TEAS in Jan. My best tips are: Watch your time! Most of the people that I know who scored low on the math ran out of time. If you feel like you are spending too much time on one move on and come back if there is time. You are allowed to have paper so write down the number you need to go back to after you give it your best guess. AND, a lot..... a lot of the answers are obvious, you have to look at the possible answers. For example if you multiply decimal points .00 X .00 has to equal .0000 there was only one answer that would have fit no math required if you looked at the answers first. There were several that the answer could have only been one and people wasted time doing the math. They were always long math problems to actually work out too. like..... sam makes 12,861 a year, he pays 436.21, 2,231.46 and 4,893.91 what is left...... and the answers were thousands of dollars off you could rough add if you wanted to be really sure but..... there was no need cause it was very clear between the choices....... Good luck and it is not as bad as it feels, I was scared to death of that test and it really was not that bad.... IF you get two shots at it (some schools allow 2 chances) go ahead and take it once, then you will have a better idea what you need to study. Cheryl
  4. Hi, From my understanding if you have ever been exposed to TB your ppd will come back positive forever, and you will always have to get the chest x-ray instead of the ppd. But if the chest X-ray came back positive, you go on medication and then get checked again later. The main difference would be that instead of having the ppd test in the future you would always have to prove your status with an x-ray because the ppd would always come back positive. I do not however, have any idea if you would actually come back positive from being around someone who was inactive, I imagine we all come in contact with thousands of people who are inactive and never get exposed. Don't worry either way your carear is not over! You just may have to jump through a few extra hoops :) But I think you will be fine with the ppd
  5. Hi all, well, I left on sat. certain I failed, I missed little stuff and I was not certain that I got the pulse, I took it twice. the first time I got 104!, So I told my "client" that I felt I needed to retake it because it was very high..... I got 96 the second time. we were all so nervous that it may or may not have been right. I don't even know what all I missed. I know I got the skills them selves right, but I don't know if I even introduced myself or not..... Anyway very very long story short, I have not received my letter yet (they do not tell us on site), but I checked the va web-site and I am coming up certified. So I am hoping that my letter will come and confirm it for me. Thank you all.
  6. Thank you all so much! For anyone who still has to take it our skills are all on you-tube, you have to watch and make sure they are doing it right but it is still a great refresher and helps with the night-before nerves...... I'm still nervous but, I am just going to give it my all and hope I don't do anything stupid!
  7. Hi all, I finished the CNA course in April and I go for my test in the morning...... I am so nervous. I think I know what I am doing but..... When it comes to performing I am really worried that my nerves are going to win. Does anyone have any advice? What can I expect? I am testing in Front Royal, Va. I know that we get 5 skills (including hand washing, and one measurement). I'm not sure exactly how it is laid out as far as dirty supply area, clean supplies.... Yeah I am just nervous...... any advice at all would be great. Thank you all!
  8. Thank you for replying Unfortunately, this is the only program that I can afford at the moment. The University has a BSN but, at thirty thousand a year it is not really doable with three kids and the mortgage ect... I have completed most of my co-reqs and still have a 4.0. however, I did lousy in high school (13 years ago) and they may still look at that. they received about 400 applications last year for 64 spots...... so I am not really sure what my chances are. I am taking the CNA now just as a back up if I have to wait a year and re-apply I should have a better chance with experience. They also do not use interviews or anything, it is based on numbers. They don't even put your name on the application so that there is no special treatment. You are a number and you either rank high enough or you don't, no wait list, you just reapply next year. The only thing that would give me a better chance next year is that they probably would not look at high school, and I would have experience. Assuming I can keep my GPA till then (I have to finish A&P II and Micro). I am taking A&P II now and micro this summer.
  9. hello all, I have been reading here frequently while taking my prereqs, I am finally ready to apply to the ADN program and I should know something by June. The school that I am applying to works on a points system, they will not tell us what we should get on the TEAS but they did tell us they separate the grades into three groups (top third, middle and bottom). They will not know where the numbers for the groups are until the scores come in, because obviously they don't know how anybody scored until then. They also will not tell us how the groups ranged last year. So I am here to ask you to take a wild guess...... what do you think the ranges would be????? I want to be in the top group obviously lol. I scored a 85.3 and I do have one chance left to take it so I could potentially score a bit higher, if I score lower they will only look at the best. Do you think that I have any chance of being in the top group with that score????? The school only has 64 spots a year, so needless to say I am getting a bit nervous. Thank you all in advance.
