  1. I think you have misundersood what I was saying. To survive I have taken out loans every single term I have been in school> The question which I was responding to was why HRSA was not paying for her tuition. I did not know what other costs she was speaking of, if they were school costs such as books or personal costs. I was recommending that she speaks with her financial aid if she hasn't already. There are other people out there who have never needed to take out a student loan and some who are working on top of the stipend and still take out student loans. That is all a personal preference but to me this stipend is a blessing and has eased a lot of the stress I would have had without it!!
  2. 21amarice, I do not know anyone in your situation but I am also not sure why you need to take out student loans still. Is it for books? Have you spoken with your financial aid department? Even if your tuition is still paid through pell grants and other grants the stipend is still a blessing that will help you each month. Your school should not include any loans in payment received. Those are private and your choice to keep or reject
  3. I received the stipend last year. They do not take any taxes out of the stipend, you claim them yourself. You also have to claim your tuition. That wasn't so bad last year but this year I will end up owing money! You will get the entire 1269.00 plus any back months and your ORC costs for the first month. There after you will receive the 1269.
  4. I wondered about the extra funding when I read about it in this post. I already receive the scholarship and they have increasec our monthly stipend from 1234.00 to 1269.00. We have not received our ORC costs yet but they probably increased it also. Don't mean to add any extra stress to all of you waiting I just wanted to let you know. Good luck to all of you! I hope you receive notification soon, I know how hard the wait can be!!!:loveya:
  5. HRSA deposits money first into your account. It is not right when you receive your award letter but at the end of the month. As far as your school, I have had nothing but trouble. I have taken out student loans to carry me through but they are always delayed. That may not be typical but just my experience.
  6. I believe It was Sept. 15th. I was the first one notified. Everyone else received their notification in a email first, then the letter. I don't know why but the process seems to change every year. I know the wait is the hardest part but I don't think you will be able to tell whether you received it or not until notifications are given. Even then don't give up because some people were notified later then others. GOOD LUCK!!!!!!!
  7. my heart goes out to all of you!!! I remember the feeling of waiting. I started my program on a wing and a prayer (9,000 per term) but believed I would receive the scholarship. Hang in there God will answer all of your prayers in his own way and time!
  8. The worst thing about the scholarship program is the wait! I don't know if you will be notified earlier but I would not hold my breath. Watch your mail and your email. I received my notification 1st through the mail, others received an email. Good luck!!!!
  9. If you receive the scholarship your school will send HRSA a invoice for your tuition. They will take your cost of tuition and deduct your pell grant and any grants you may have received. HRSA will pay the remaining balance. Your student loans are not included. If you read the contract it will explain it.
  10. If you receive the scholarship you can either keep your loan or return it to your lender. It will not be included as payment on your invoice only your pell grant will count before billing.
  11. I do not know about sending your information to the wrong address but you will not receive any information about your status until you are awarded the scholarship. If you are holding your breath you will be waiting until the end of August to September. All you will know is that they received your info and it is complete. The call center will not tell you if you have been awarded. If you have questions about what will happed read the previous posts from 2008 and 2007.
  12. Your financial aid office submits a tuition invoice. your loans are not included but they do deduct your pell grant. You can either keep your loan or return it.
  13. I did have a 0 efc and I am working on my BSN
  14. Last year there was a link on the same page as the bulletin but i looked and it is not there this year. Maybe they will post it later. Your best bet is to call and see if they received all of your information. Other than that they will not tell you if you got it until they send out notification.
  15. Hey, I received the scholarship last year. It was totally a gift from God! I go to a private college and the tuition is about 9,000 dollars per term. They pay for everything! Then you receive your monthly stipend and book costs. It really is a gift. The hardest part is waiting to hear if you get it! Hang in there!
  16. I received the scholarship last year. IT IS NOT A SCAM!!!!! It is a great program and a blessing from God if you receive it. The hardest part is waiting to see if you get it. The only reason they want your checking account is so that they can direct deposit into your account monthly.
  17. Has anyone's school tuition been paid yet?
  18. Did you change your bank branch? You are not suppose to change your account until after you receive your first stipend. You may want to call and find out what the problem is.
  19. Did everyone get their money? Mine came through at six this morning.
  20. My understanding is we are suppose to get every month that we spent at least 15 days in school. If you started Aug. 14th you would get that month, sept. and Oct. I started Aug. 20 so I should get Sept. and Oct. plus ORC. It says all of this in the bulletin
  21. :yeah::yeah::yeah::yeah::yeah::yeah::yeah::yeah: got a letter stating deposits will be friday. dear scholar: your october stipend payment and orc will be posted in your account starting this friday 10/31. please check your accounts. however, please note that sometimes it takes your bank a few days to post it to your account. regards, scholarship branch
  22. Did your school already submit an invoice? HRSA is going to pay what your school invoice says. If the school deducted the loans then I would say you don't have anything to worry about. If they did not then your loans will go to your tuition. I think maybe Yolanda isn't picking her words carefully. You are responsible for returning your loans if you no longer want them. You need to speak to the financial aid department, at least that is the information I got from my school's treasurer.
  23. Did everyone receive the welcome letter from Yolanda Joyner? Maybe this is a step forward!!!!
  24. this is what i received when the original tuition payment paperwork was sent, please note that if you are submitting us your tuition invoice, it needs to include your semester tuition and list of eligible fees on a school letterhead. if you are receiving other sources of financial aid such as grants and scholarships, please list them on the invoice and deduct the amount from the total. nsp will pay the remaining balance. if your entire tuition and fees are going to be paid by any grants and/or scholarships and the balance is zero, your school does not need to send us an invoice for that semester. if you have taken out any loans to pay for the semester tuition/fees, they do not need to be documented on the invoice as they will be paid back. i do not know why they told you something different!
