  1. That is awesome!!! How exciting!! CONGRATULATIONS! When do you begin school?
  2. Hey! I think it is a good sign you received the financial aid packet. I received it the other day and over the summer when I met with Terry Witherington (the PNP director), she said that was a good sign to receive the packet. I don't think it is a gurantee but definitely a good sign! Also, they told me that it is rare to hear back later than March 1st, so hopefully it is coming up soon. I'm so torn between Penn/Hopkins. I did find out today that I was accepted to Marquette but I don't know much about their program... Vanderbilt is such an amazing school and Nashville happens to be my favorite place on earth : ) I'm sure you will absolutely LOVE it if you go there. Best of luck, keep us updated!
  3. I think what helped me out the most was definitely my interview and maybe my essays. My gpa is average (3.5), I submitted my GRE scores (1160), I have some volunteer and shadowing experience but nothing extensive. I actually got C's in both chemistry and biology so I was really worried that would be a problem, but somehow I guess it was not. I enclosed a letter with my application asking the committee to look at my more recent semesters (including microbiology, stats, etc.) as a true indication of my "academic potential", hoping this would convince them to forgive the biology and chem grades. I would definitely say it is worth going to the school for the interview rather than doing a phone interview if you are really worried about your application. I know it is expensive and time consuming but in my case at least, I think it was well worth it. I think it is a lot easier to communicate your passion about the program as well as nursing in general. Sorry I can't offer much advice, but just be confident and don't give up...you will be successful! : )
  4. Hi Ashley! Congratulations to you too! Which program did you apply to? I will private message you my email address so we can get into contact. Allison
  5. Thanks so much!! I was honestly shocked...it had to have been the interview that helped me bc my gpa/gre is nothing impressive. I have no idea what I will pick, I'm hoping I can visit again and get some advice. Keep me updated with what you guys find out about the wait list. Honestly, I think that means you have a wonderful shot at getting in!
  6. Thanks so much!! I was definitely excited/shocked. When my phone rang yesterday and I saw it was Maryland I freaked out haha. That makes me nervous for Penn, keep me posted when you hear back. Best of luck : )
  7. Lauren, I'm so sorry to hear that about Hopkins. I think you have a good chance with your letter of reconsideration because you are definitely an exceptional canidate. Keep me updated on the rest of the schools as you hear back. I know it will all work out for you! Allison
  8. Hey, I found out I got accepted to Johns Hopkins but I haven't heard from the other schools yet. I believe we should hear from Penn around the first of February so pretty soon. Have you heard anything?
  9. Ahhhh hopkins just called and i got in!!!! I cannot believe it!
  10. I know exactly what you mean about the waiting be so difficult. I haven't heard anything yet either but I'm hoping sometime this week! If not this week, then it has to be in the next 2 weeks...I can't imagine it will be much longer. Hang in there!
  11. Thanks for all the info Pianitra! You definitely sound like a unique applicant and obviously all your hard work paid off. It is definitely reassuring to know there are people out there who did try a second time around. It gives me hope that if it doesn't work out this time, maybe next year! Congratulations again!!
  12. I don't know if you have ever visited Vanderbilt or not but I went over the summer and fell in love with both the school and Nashville. The faculty that I met were all wonderful, very informative and friendly. Nashville is such a great city too! Best of luck to you : )
  13. Lauren, I'm trying to message you back but I haven't made enough posts yet so I'll get back to you asap : )
  14. Congratulations mazinni! All your hard work has definitely paid off now that you have been accepted. That definitely encourages me to try again if I am not accepted this year. Well I know Hopkins is quite a bit more than $10,000 but just how much I am not certain. I think they have the information on their website though. Best of luck to you in making your decision!
  15. Congratulations, that's awesome! Where are you from? Did you find out today? Also, would you mind sharing your gpa/experience/etc.? I'm just trying to get an idea of what they look for so I can reapply next year if I am not accepted. I really appreciate your help!
  16. I haven't heard yet but I talked to Sylvia Lee today through e-mail and she said they are still making decisions and admissions decisions will be continuing through the start of February. I'm keeping my fingers crossed...and anxiously checking the mail every day! Good luck to everyone.
  17. Thanks for responding so quickly! Congratulations, that is extremely exciting!! I fell in love with JHU after visiting for the interview and I can't stop thinking about that acceptance call/rejection letter and when it will be coming. I applied to the accelerated BSN/MSN with PNP focus. I had my application in by the early decision deadline although I did not sign the early decision agreement. I'm thinking that means I should hear fairly early on but I'm not sure if they notify based on when the application was submitted or the specialty applied to. Do you know? Again, congratulations!!! : )
  18. ahh that makes me so nervous! When did they call you today? What program did you apply to?
  19. Thanks for the information! That is great that you didn't lose all of your credits in the process of transfering. Marquette's program is the one I'm least familar with out of those I've applied to so I really do appreciate your post. Thanks again.
  20. Wow, that is a great GRE score, I'm sure that will really help your application. Your gpa is not all that low, especially for having a degree in biology. I'm sure they will take into consideration your major. I thought Kim was very soft spoken too and I interviewed in person. I had a difficult time reading her. She was very nice but definitely quiet and I couldn't really get a feel for what she thought of me. That is awesome you spent time in Sydney, I would love to travel there and someday hopefully I'll be able to. Definitely update me as you find out about your schools. Best of luck to you!! Allison
  21. I've applied to Vanderbilt, Johns Hopkins, Penn, and Marquette, all for the direct entry programs, pediatric NP speciality. I haven't heard back from any of them yet but have completed interviews at Vanderbilt, Hopkins & Penn. I'm getting nervous because I know I will start hearing back soon. The more and more I read on these threads, the more concerned I become and start to doubt if I am a competitive applicant or not. Hopefully we'll all start hearing back soon and be accepted somewhere : )
  22. Wow, you sound like an exceptional canidate for Penn. I'm sure even though such a small number of applicants are admitted, you will probably be one of them. I agree with you though about Penn inching up on my list of schools. I definitely think the opportunity to specialize in the precise area in which I'd like to work is amazing. Where did you go to undergrad? Are you from San Francisco? I agree that the Hopkins interviewer asked many more questions and my interview at Hopkins was much longer than the interview I had at Penn. Who did you interview with at both schools? I believe Megan was the name of the woman who interviewed me at Hopkins and at Penn, I interviewed with Kim. It was difficult for me to get a feel for how the interviews went, did you feel this way? I'm not sure I'm in any way a competitive applicant for either Johns Hopkins or Penn but if I am not accepted this year, I will spend the next year working to improve me GRE scores, gain further experience in the healthcare setting and also take additional classes to raise my GPA. Best of luck to you, definitely let me know how things turn out! : )
  23. Ya, I am assuming it will be starting within the next week or so. I'm getting very nervous! Lars23, did you apply for the accelerated BSN/MSN program?
  24. Has anyone who applied for the accelerated BSN/MSN program (regular decision) heard back yet? I have a feeling that calls/letters will be going out soon and I'm getting very nervous. For those who have already been accepted to the program, would you mind sharing your gpa/experience/etc.? Thanks and good luck to all!
