  1. Finding this page a little late but wanted to say congrats to everyone that has made it in! I'm starting the FNP program in the fall, but unable to make it to orientation. Anyone else not able to go?
  2. Just want to let you know the clinical sites for Level 1 are generally not the same as the other levels. Level 1 focuses on assessment and basic nursing skills, so generally its the rehab centers level 1 gets stuck with. Schedule to pick from are as follows: Northside, St Anthonys Rehab, HealthSouth Rehab, Morton Plant Rehab. Night classes have the additional option of Baypines VA rehab. Good luck everyone! I just graduated and SPC has a wonderful program that prepares you well for the NCLEX!!
  3. Terecil - contact the nursing office, or go there bright and early Monday morning. Not sure if you know where the nursing office is, but its upstairs, go down the long hallway from the stairs to the back, hang a right and its on the left. They'll let you know what to do, but I suggest going to the library to scan your forms. They're not going to drop you from the program, but you need to get everything together and try and get as much done as you can before your first day.
  4. SPC2012 - just bring a notebook, a couple of pens, and if you want to - your recorder. Once you receive your calendar you know which books to bring on what days...for level 1 it seems like you're always bringing at least 2 or 3 books every day. Good luck!
  5. Just a quick note not to stress over completing every item for Certified Student Profile - your instructors will review your portfolio and you are allowed a set time frame to have everything completed. I believe it must be complete by the time you start your clinical rotation which is week 6 or 7. Your instructors will go over everything with you on your first day. As long as you have started everything you will be okay.
  6. Log into Angel, click on College of Nursing. Go under Lessons/Schedules tab (everything you need is under here as far as ATI, book lists, schedules, etc) and scroll to the bottom where it says Modules/Syllabus. It's by course number so just click on it and it will pop up. Good luck!
  7. You don't take it at orientation if I remember correctly. They tell you to sign up for a certain day and time, and then you go in on your scheduled time. It's not pass or fail, they just want to see how prepared you are for nursing school, what your strengths and weaknesses are, etc. Good luck.
  8. Erica1223 - for every semester it varies. I know the semester I got in the lowest was in the 3.6 range. That was over a year ago. Not sure how it is now, but its been known that spring is easier to get into than the fall. Don't feel like you have no chance just because of what is rumored!
  9. You do not need your skills kit on the first day. The first day they go over your syllabus, calendar, books, what is expected of you, etc. On your calendar it will state when you need to bring certain items, including your skills kit. Good luck!
  10. It is very hard to find all white shoes, but if you have some light specks of grey they aren't that picky. I found all white Skechers last summer at the Skechers store in Clearwater mall. They actually have quite a few that are basically all white with a couple flecks of grey.
  11. Soontobehope...yes, you need a copy of everything you scanned into Certified Profile. It has to be put into your portfolio binder labeled with tabs. Your instructor will check this portfolio every semester. As far as due dates for units, once your instructor has uploaded your course into ANGEL you can see your syllabus and when your units are due. I know first skills check off is proper handwashing, so print that one out for sure. CMS1010...it's on the web, called C P R b u d d y . c o m. I believe that's what it is...
  12. It seems like every semester the bookstore is behind in getting skills kits in. I know some students didn't get theirs in until after school had started when I first began. The first one or two skills you don't need your kit, and instructors are completely aware of the whole skills kit situation and make allowances for those without. And the BP cuff...well, you'll see that in fact most of the time it's not as big as you think it is....:). It appears like you are almost done with everything!!
  13. kmb624 - it would be a new thing they are doing if they are adding it into your skills kit. the steth, bp cuff, penlight, scissors, etc. are separate from your skills kit. your skills kit only includes what you need for skills check offs. everyone has a preference on what steth or bp cuff, as well as penlight, they want to buy, so it hasn't been included in the skills kit.
  14. No problem! I'll let you know. I do my re-certification in a year, so I'll definitely let you know where I decide to go.
  15. I also believe you now have to have all your pre-reqs completed before you apply to even be considered. I would definitely check with an HEC advisor on this, but I know they have changed the rules this year for new applicants. Good luck!
  16. Personally, I think the Ebook bundle is overpriced. Most people that have purchased it never use the e-features, and end up purchasing hard cover books subsequent semesters. I'm sure you had an interesting time at CPR class - I don't think I'll take my re-certification with her though.
  17. SoontobeHope.... Try the Skechers store on US 19 in Clearwater Mall for your shoes - good price and more comfy than the Reeboks I tried on for double the price. Just remember they have to be all white, but a little grey fleck or two on the side won't get you into trouble. I heard that now the bookstore is no longer carrying the syllabus, and it's always available on Angel under your course listing. This means you'll have to do a ton of printing this semester as you guys have a lot of skills check offs. As far as back pack - a lot of people have roller Jansport backpacks, but then a ton of people use the rolling crates you can find at Office Depot or Staples. In level 1 they make you carry around a lot more books than in the other levels. And perhaps the sales lady at Scrubs n Stuff was pushing the MDF steth on you because they make more money off them than the Littmanns - the Littmanns are more expensive so maybe they can't make as much profit off of them as they can the MDF brand. Hope this helps....
  18. Sorry Soontobehope...just deleted my boxes and please try again!! I do apologize for that...I'm not very good at deleting things :).
  19. Awesome! Knew it would happen for you!! PM me with any questions!!
  20. Nope, thank goodness!! Certain expansion programs run through the summer, night classes do the summer session, and lpn transition will do the summer. I'm glad because it's a lot of information, writing, stress that I dont' have to deal with over a 10-week period. It's enough information as it is during a regular semester, I couldn't imagine the stress of doing it in a shortened period of time.
  21. Not that I recommend this place (lady is a complete whack job), but I went to CPRbuddy.com. She does CPR BLS for healthcare providers. Check out sunstar ems also. And apparently St. Anthonys will occasionally do the CPR classes. A classmate found someone that comes to your home and does it with you there. If you are interested in that just PM me and I'll ask her who he is. And yes, your CPR status is the same as mine. Only valid for 2 years, so I get to do it again next year.
  22. LOL! I know the feeling! I'm finishing up level 2, and we are all counting down the days until summer break! Make sure you're vaccinated - hep B, hep A, tetorifice, get a ppd test done, as well as a physical at the dr. Start looking for American Heart Association BLS CPR classes - it needs to be done before the first day of class. And make sure it's a BLS CPR class you take - a person in my class went to a CPR class but it wasn't BLS and she had to re-do immediately.
  23. Soontobehope and ALavallee - your grades seem high enough to get in! I heard from a classmate that went to the nursing office that they were going to be changing the application process (once again!) in 2013. However, as it was just hearsay it might not even be true. Good luck!!
  24. No need to spend $100 on shoes - Skechers on US19 has great deals, and you can always look at Nike or Reebok for the all white shoe. I don't think anyone in my class paid over $50 for their shoes.
  25. I can't see how you wouldn't be able to get in with that GPA and all your pre-reqs completed! Keep us updated, but I really think you'll have no issues!
