  1. that's what i figured. it prob wont be a major decision maker cuz if i really needed that wouldn't a hospital just hire me and than require me to get that certification? it's not like it takes years to get ACLs, u know what i mean... thanks! and i been applying like crazy to other hospitals, i think this is just not a good time since i live in philadelphia and there are alot of nursing programs and alot of new nurses looking for jobs.. i'll just have to have patience but still try my best to apply all over
  2. I recently passed the boards! but now am jobless I work as a NA at a small county hospital on a med surg floor and there is no opening for a new RN and none in sight anytime soon. I was reading on a couple threads that getting further certifications is a great way to spend this extra "free" time i have. My hospital has ACLS classes being offered in October. It is now August. The classes are expensive from what I've seen but free for me since I am am employee. My problem is should I wait till October when I can take them at my hospital, or should i take them now and spend the money with the slight chance I may be able to get a job before that? ugh decisions, decisions.
  3. thanks everyone! i think i was just anxious and just needed confidence in myself. i PASSED with 75 questions! wooooooo
  4. I've read alot of posts of people talking about retaking the question trainers until they do better, how can u do that? I wanted to retake my diagnostic test to see if i improve but i don't know how?
  5. haha thanks, i tried, my local library and college one didn't have it oh well i guess the money will be worth it when i passss wwooooo for positivity.. Thanks everyone!
  6. thanks, was this the cd you used ? or a book i'm confused.
  7. Is there any truth to the fact that exam cram questions are written similarly to NCLEX? Anyone who already took nclex think so?? I just dont want to spend any more money unless i really need to, please help thanks!!
  8. thank you everyone, I guess I was just panicing because i had a dream i failed nclex 3 times a couple nights ago, which is clearly impossible since i haven't taken it even ONCE yet lol... and i've read alot of posts and heard from people who say they have studied alot and done TONS of questions but still fail.. so i just was scared that I wasn't doing enough
  9. i've heard exam cram is a great source, however, the latest one i can find was published in 2007... do u think that will be okay since the nclex 2010 is a new exam this april?
  10. to me patient care means being there for a patient when they are most vulnerable. You are there for a patient when they are scared, happy, nervous, confused, and stressed. You offer support and courage as well as medical care. To me patient care means knowing once I leave the hospital, whether all I did was wipe sweat off a patients head or give CPR, I made a difference in their life during a difficult time. I think as nurses we are lucky to be able to provide care and anyone would be lucky to do what we do. Our job comes with alot of stress, and we are special people who take on this task and enjoy it.
  11. I tried to search this but didn't come across any topic which related to my exact question... sooo... My question/comment is: I am taking the Nclex for the first time in 2 1/2 weeks. I enrolled in Kaplan and have been doing questions not only from Kaplan but also other sources. I do try to focus on content as well but I feel like sitting down and memorizing ALOT of information may not work for me and I might feel overwhelmed. I have heard doing questions is a great way to understand how to apply the material. So I guess let me get to the point lol.... my question is.... For anyone who did not pass on their first attempt, or for anyone who knows someone who didn't pass, do you have any advice? What didn't you do the first time that you wish you had? I know alot of people who pass the first time have offered great advice, but I wanted the prespective of someone who may not have succeeded and realized something they were missing. My hope is that I can learn something from you so that I know I am trying everything to pass. THANKS!!!
  12. haha totally agree. that was one of the main reasons i was eager to watch the show. they said nurses also.. oh well... i still thought the show was pretty good
  13. i'm watching now as well.. deff is more dr. orientated.. i wish and hope they show more nurses.. we really do alot.. come on.. SHOW THE NURSES!!!
  14. thanks everyone!
  15. i work as a nursing assistant, but not a certified one and was able to keep the job even after graduating nursing school. I've heard that once you graduate you cannot work as a CNA while u try to find a job or are studying for your boards. But i never thought that made sense. They say you can only work as what you are certifed in, well until you take your boards your not certified in anything besides being a CNA right? But than again i'm not sure... so i guess I would check on that..
  16. AHH, I graduated in May and my school use to have the HESI exams and I did terrible on them, yet somehow I always got at least a A or B in all my nursing classes. I just finished my kaplan course and I am doing HORRIBLE, i mean i don't even think the word horrible describes how bad i am doing. I haven't gotten anything higher than a 53% on their question trainers and I have only done one QBank but that was a 50%. I mean is that 60-65% really obtainable for kaplan or do I just suck? I don't even know where to begin. Each question I get wrong I look up right away in my textbook and make a flashcard. I mean I know I need some content review but when I asked the Kaplan instructor she told me it wasn't realistic to sit there and read every page of a review book, and I sort of agree. I feel like doing questions gets me more exposure and will get me use to thinking like NCLEX. Am i doomed? Or do you think it is too soon for me to tell? I appreciate ANY advice, i just really dont want to have to take NCLEX more than once. I haven't scheduled my exam yet because I am still waiting for my ATT, however, I don't want to take them all the way in August, but at this rate my confidence is going down and I just dont know. Anyone in a similar situation?
  17. i am graduating next week with my bsn. i unfortunately do not have an impressive gpa, 2.9. i know that someday i want to go for my masters. i got a c in a nursing class that was worth 9 credits and have not been able to revive my gpa since then. in addition, my last 60 credits gpa is only 2.85. i know that the majority of masters programs require 1-2 years of working experience and a 3.0 at least. i guess my question is, do i even have a chance of getting into a good masters program with a gpa like that even with a couple years of work experience? i live in the philadelphia area and would love to know your experience about any masters programs in this area.
  18. I'm a nursing student and I always see NPs in the hospital and even during rounds, What exactly can NPs do in the hospital? I know they do assessments and work collaborativley with Drs but I mean can they prescribe meds?, order tests? I'm just curious what they do different than an MD? Also, I live in PA, anyone know the laws for NPs in pa? THANKSS
  19. Do you guys know of any DNP programs that do seem crediable? I'm not looking for any specific location.. any program location is fine. I just want an idea of wat to look for in a DNP progam? Which sparks another question... what are u suppose to look for in a DNP program? I mean what makes it a good program?
  20. thanks guys! i hadn't really considered taking my time to research a program. I figured if a school had a program it would be great to attend that school;however, i agree with u.. its all new and prob a good idea to wait awhile.
  21. I have a BSN. How long does it take to become a DNP or NP (not sure of the difference, i could use some help with that also!) Do you have to get your MSN than apply to a DNP/NP program? or is there a way to combine MSN and NP programs? In general how long are MSN programs and DNP/NP programs? Thanks in Advance! I'm just very confused
  22. where are you doing your MSN? good for you! thanks:up:
  23. if you dont mind me asking what kind of student were you? Were your grades exceptionally good? Do you have to be a top student to get into these programs? Also does anyone know of any MSN program that does not require experience around the PA, NJ, NY, DE,MD,VA area? THANK YOU
