  1. I have the same problem with money lol...I am getting back money from my loans which I desperately need and they won't give it to us until the end of Add/drop period- but add/drop ends jan 16th so I was hoping we could get our checks oh like the 19th (the following mon)...but who knows. I don't know about parking either...they said we could apply for parking or whatever on orientation day but who knows if there will even be any available spots...so my plan was just to park across the street at st. v's which is $4 dollars a day- but even so thats $80 a month! This is all getting way too expensive! We can probably all figure out a carpool situation once we meet (just a few more days!). By the way does anyone know what is going on for orientation...like what time we are supposed to be there and where etc? I haven't gotten anything in the mail or email about it? Hope everyone enjoyed the holidays and is enjoying their last week of freedom!
  2. I'm not sure of the exact bus schedule eitehr but I had checked that out a few months ago and I know it is online. I also live just outside of worcester (holden/worcester line) so carpooling could def be a way to go!
  3. hey I got an answer about the email-and I was told another one was being sent today so I don't know if everyone got that. I just wanted to say you can find the Littmann cardiology III for a lower price than 155 at Trippis-and thats a sale for them. The lowest I've found so far is 129.99 from Steeles (www.steeles.com/catalog/3mlittcardIII.html) - any savings are good since we are already spending so much money for this program!
  4. hey amanda-congrats on getting in! Ya they are def bad at getting back to people at this school. We definetly do not start clinicals until our summer semester- so I don't know what month that is june or july- but they are probably accurate with the july.
  5. I didn't get an email with a book list-when was it sent? Also were you guys able to get on the parking wait list? I was told we had to wait till orientation and thats where we would be able to figure out parking.
  6. Wow ya more details please? I hope the worcester campus isn't as bad as what it sounds like your saying about the boston campus. I sure don't want to be spending this much money for a complete nightmare :uhoh21:
  7. Ya i know it seems crazy just for 2 semesters of school! Its hard enough trying to get loans the first time around lol
  8. well what I did for the loan amount was take the budget on our financial aid letter and subtract my award amount and since thats the total the school would certify thats what I took out in the loan I applied for. For me that will cover the rest of tuition for spring and summer and some left over for books etc. and the financial aid guy said that the total loan amount will be divided in half and sent in 2 disbursements. However, I still need to apply for another loan just for my living expenses which sucks because I'm not having much luck with that.
  9. ok I just called financial aid- i wanted to cathch them before the weekend. He said they messed up and sent the health insurance forms separate from the bill, so the health insurance waiver forms will be coming beginning of next week. I totally forgot to mention about the summer session bill so I dunno about that. But he did say that if you have a loan that the school will request 2 different dispursments one for spring one for summer.
  10. I just got my bill ass well- no health insurance waiver form or even instuctions how how to go about doing so. This school is driving me crazy already! Also no summer charges- which I assumed ould be on there. So Im guessing we will get a different bill when summer comes- but it would have been nice if they had sent us both now so we can figure out loans-seriously! Guess I'm going to be calling the financial aid office- again.
  11. Umm let me see if I can help cuz I have emailed the financial aid guy at least 3 times today- poor guy! Ok so the 33,660 (thats what was on mine too) is the expected budget for tuition, fees, books, supplies, room, board, transportation, and miscellaneous- and that is just for Spring and Summer semesters only. If you don't have health insurance you will have to take it through the school, which is the only thing i'm not sure is included in the 33,660. He said that the health insurance forms will come in the mail with our bill- at which point you can either take it or deny it if you are already covered by someone else. So if you take out room and board and health insurance the budget is less-i'm just not sure what. The amount of your award determines how much money the school will certify any personal loan for. The way it was explained to me: Take the budget and subtract the current award amount from that and that is what the school can certify the loan for. For me that amount isn't enough to cover the rest of my "budget" and my total living expenses so I have to take out another personal loan on top of that one that doesn't need the school to certify the amount. Man this is crazy I can't believe how in debt I'm going to be at the end of 16 mnth! I don't know if that made sense or answered any questions lol, but hopefully.
  12. I asked about the bill and he said we would receive a bill either this week or early next- but I haven't gotten mine yet. Oh I just got an email from (lol I'm emailing everyone with questions) he said bills will be sent out by 11-14. I made out a tentative cost list for our school and I got 15,200 but I added in a lab top that I need, books, supplies, parking etc. So it could be less without those things. Don't we need to take out a loan for spring and summer?? I'm having trouble with private loans- sallie mae works with our school but the school has to certify the amount you need so basically said take the budget that is on your letter and subtract the total amount of award you got and that number is what the school will certify-no more. Which sortof stinks cuz I was going to try not to work during school so I need more money for living expenses. Blah. The other loans I've looked into were CHASE(they don't work with our school so thats out), BOA (but they aren't giving loans right now), Terri (they aren't accepting applications anymore), Citizens bank is the same as sallie mae I guess because citizens is the bank that is the lender for our school, there are some others like wells-fargo but they for example have variable APR which is not great. Other than that I was going to try credit unions. Anyway just thought I'd share my frustrations and research so maybe it will help and save you some time. Good luck and let me know if you find any good loan places becuase I'm def still looking!!
  13. I'm not sure either about the CPR before Jan- i would call and ask. I think all of you are on the facebook group for our class? I just posted a letter from a friend of a friend lol that is in the program right now and she said some helpful things about the schedule and books, parking etc. check it out. Also I just got my financial aid package in so they must be coming if you havent gotten one yet! Now I'm just freaking out about where to get private loans from-eek!!
  14. Hmm interesting I'm curious about that now too. I think we weren't supposed to get a schedule before orientation but it would be nice I wonder if there is someone else at the school that could tell us. If those parents are willing to work with your schedule then I would def try to keep the job. I'll let you know if I find anything out :nuke:
  15. CLLB585 - do you want to know about the schedule as in what classes were going to be taking or like the hrs we'll be in class? If you go on the mcphs website and get into nursing and hit cirriculum it will give you the outline for what classes we are going to be taking and which semesters and nursing 226 is on there for our first semester. As far as hrs go I'm not completely sure but I thought someone mentioned the first semster would be like a mon-fri 8-4 kind of deal. So depending on when you nanny I might think of giving my notice?
  16. I'm with you on that one...my credit is def not so good so I'm worried too but I'm trying to keep my hopes up. I'm sure it will all work out! I'm really looking forward to meeting everyone and starting this program!
  17. Ya I think your right they probably did goof. They said that we can apply for loans online and there is a list of suggested loans that will get sent in our packages. He also said it can take just a few days to get approved for a loan so we shouldn't have trouble. But I personally don't know if its that easy especially if you don't have perfect credit you know. I think that if we can't get our tuition by the date they want they may give an extension-maybe? I mean they are the ones taking so long to get the packages out to us.
  18. Someone from the financial aid department finally got back to me today after my 12th message haha. He said the same thing as the person told you-by the end of next week they should be all sent out. Just make sure to watch for them. Lynn had told me mine was supposed to be sent out Oct. 18th and 2 wks later its still not here so he's sending out a new one. Were only going to have what 4 wks until our tution is due-eek!
  19. Has anyone heard anything yet about financial aid? I've been calling and leaving messages to Lynn but no reply. I'm thinking about stopping by the office just to get an answer?
  20. hey everyone! I'm super excited to start as well and meeting everyone! I hear all of you in being frustrated about not hearing back about financial aid- I'm checking the mail box anxiously every day! They said beginning of oct they would send it out so I'm waiting till the end of the week and I'll try to call and see whats going on because this is crazy! I haven't even tried to apply for private loans yet but I'm sure they are being extremely stingy and will need co-signers. So I checked on the website if you go to mcphs and the 16 month bsn program then hit tuition and fees and then important dates...not to make anyone nervous but it says the tuition payment deadline is actually Dec 14th! There is also a break down of tuition and fees on there as well. Def I would say at least 200 a sem for books but who knows. In debt is not even the word for it. I also wish I had done nursing for my first undergrad but theres no going back now. I'm just looking forward to the future and being a nurse!
  21. Hey Erin! Ya I'm sure he would have loan resources for us- its worth asking anyway. I just want to get everything squared away so I know its paid for lol. I can't wait to start either! ttyl Michelle
  22. Hey everyone! Congrats to everyone on getting accepted! I haven't posted for a while, my name is michelle and I was also accepted for jan '09 and I'm very excited to start. Not so excited however for the cost of this school or for the studying but I figure its only 16 months long so how bad could it be right?! Erin ya doing financial aid is filling out the FAFSA then that gets sent to the school and it is applying for aid (the free $) and stafford loans- so thats what you will get when the financial aid package comes in the mail. I spoke with Lynn from the financial aid office and he said they should start sending out the financial aid packages early october- when you get it will prob depend on when you filled out the FAFSA I'm assuming?...but not too much longer to wait- i'm getting antsy waiting for that! I haven't started applying for personal loans yet because I figure better to wait and see whats in the aid package to know how much more I need. I think if you got financial aid for your 1st bachelor degree then you aren't qualified to get it for the 2nd one, but you can still get stafford loans and personal loans. I looked at the calendar online and it looks like orientation is the 9th of jan and classes start the 12th but I don't know if thats right. Santa419-I'm from the worcester area and housing isn't hard to find there are a ton of apartments for rent in worcester it just depends on how much you want to spend- check out craigslist there are usually some good ones on there. I would stay out of the main st in worcester area- its not the greatest area but prob lower prices. Krysology- there are alot of good schools in Ma for nursing. there is a 16mnth program at MCPHS worcester-which I think most of the people here are looking into. Are you just looking at boston? Worcester state is another good one-4yr cheaper has a good reputation. There is also Fitchburg state college- 4yr had a friend who did that one and liked it alot, quinsigg college-2yr program but quite the wait list, Umass Amherst has a good nursing program 4yr as well, also Boston college, becker college and anna maria...- I know you are asking for the best- but I'm not really sure of that I think its prob hard to say unless you've been through it or know someone who has. I know people who have been through worc state, umass amherst, fitchburg state and quinsigg and they all loved all of those programs. I guess it depends on where you want to be for location, how much you want to pay, and how long you want to go for. HA that doesn't sound very helpful does it? sorry. Anyway, Im looking forward to starting and meeting everyone!
  23. Hey! I'm going to be starting the nursing program at MCPHS in jan 09. Just had a few questions...Since its still so new is there, like LIZH18 said, still a lot of confusion or is it getting better? Also are they fully accredited now? I know they had initial approval but were waiting on the next classes to graduate (or something like that). Also any suggestions on things I could look over before starting in jan-like med calculations or pharm info. I'm getting nervous about all the work and wanted to start reviewing (im not usually like that haha but want to do really well in this program). Also how did you do on the NCLEX and was it fairly easy to get a job as RN once you were out?
  24. Hey leanne, I submitted the FAFSA online but I haven't heard anything yet from MCPHS. I called becuase I'm anxious and want to know what I can get for financial aid so I can then apply for loans etc. But the guy on the phone Lynn I think his name was said that they weren't dealing with the aid yet for the people coming in for spring and just concentrating on the fall people for now. Said it would prob be a few more wks until they got through the fall financial aid distribution. I think financial aid works the same way for an accelerated program as it does for a regular program but I could be wrong- def something to look into. If I hear anything else I'll let you know. Michelle
  25. Hey! my name is michelle and I got accepted to the nursing program for january '09 as well. I had recieved papers also for health forms and I sent those in but thats it so far. I tried to contact someone about maybe finding out what books I need, but haven't gotten a response and prob won't since its still too early. I called the financial aid office and they said they are still trying to work on getting everything figured out for people starting in the fall and it would be at least a few more weeks. I am really excited and nervous but I can't wait to start! So congrats to both of you on the acceptance!
