  1. I know I'm only a 2nd semester student, but my sister has taken and failed the NCLEX PN 3 times (long story) and each time, she has rec'd a letter in the mail within 2 business days with her failure notice. A couple of her friends that passed took SEVERAL business days to get their liscense number.... so there is still hope! Keep us posted!!
  2. anyone have any recommendations on something to use at home to practice starting an IV on? I know you can practice giving injections to an orange, but what about IV's? Some classmates thought of using a banana but I think the peel would be to thick for the catheter.... and I only have 2 catheters, so I need to make them last! ? Thanks! Amanda 2nd semester ADN student, and loving every minute of it.
  3. YES, it was alot! And most of it within a 2 week time period! I was hoping for more replies than just one. Anyone else wanna chime in? What should I expect in 2nd semester?
  4. Just a curious question here. I am finishing up 1st semester of nursing school, and was just wondering what type of competencies/critical skills other nursing students were/are taught in all semesters. Here is a list of mine... (only 1st semester, I am unsure of all other semesters) Skills Taught: handwashing daily hygiene/bed making placing patient on bedpan scrubbing and gowning in isolation technique enemas scrubbing, gowning, sterile gloves, setting up sterile fields removing & applying elastic bandages, & TED hose nasogastric feeding instillation of eye and ear drops inserting a nasogastric tube changing dressings administering a specific dose of insulin PEG feedings medication administration (Oral, IM, SC, ID) Competencies: (we had to demonstrate competencies with an instructor watching and it was pass if you do it right, fail if you get it wrong) Vital Signs Dosage Calculations Foley Catheterizations Physical Assessment
  5. Ours is A=93-100 B=87-92 C=82-86 Anything below 82 in our program is failing.... They say they that our grading scale is held to higher standards, because of NCLEX. The ADN program at my school, the grading scale is totally different from the rest of the college. But I'm fine with the higher standard grading scale, because our program has a 100% pass rate on the NCLEX-RN.
  6. How would you teach a client to perform the valsalva maneuver?
