I really agree with that! I am from Costa Rica and we have a socialized medical system that we adopted from France, and illegal people from our neighbour countries come to milk the system and its just not fair! there's been reports on the news that medication that is obtained free in our country is being sold in other countries in Central America, now this is incredible to me!!! not to mention all the pregnant women that come into the country illegally and once they have a citizen born child in our country they can claim many services as well.... I sucks- Bottom line is the system in itself is very darn good!!!! but there's certainly alot of things that can be improved also- I am living in California now moved here about five years ago and it took almost 2 years to be aproved for insurance!!!!!! Thank God I am only in my 30's and am very healthy and now even with insurance here.... you can bet if something happened to me I'd be in the first flight to my country where I know all my limbs would be saved and not denied a healthy state just so my insurance company can save some pennies- sorry but it is the truth-

Hey I just got a letter for an Open House for Nursing and Allied Health Professionals from The Riverside County Regional Medical Center, its on April 16th or go to www.rcrmc.org or www.rc-hr.com they have positions that require no experience. I'm not moving to Southern CA anytime soon, but if anyone is interested and willing to move should check it out... Also if anyone knows of anything around Sacramento I am willing to commute up to 2hrs. Please!!!!!!!!!!

You know what ,I have heard that by many RNs who have advised me not to apply for a job in LTC, they say you'll get stuck and can't further your career... and hospitals won't even look at you if your experience comes from LTC because the acute experience is not there, that's just what I've been told, and is new to me... where I come from a nurse is a nurse wherever...

I thought Kaplan was really good and I actually recommend it to anyone! The Qbank is awesome and the questions were very similar to the NCLEX, I passed in 75 questions! good luck...

Here in Sacramento I'm still waiting to get hired got my RN license last july'08 and just like some of you really scared now and the more time passes by the less chance of being hired :uhoh21:

rewards...having more experinced nurses to fill more positions. Like I said I know it is expensive but we should all find a way to be able to train more new grads, trimming expenses shouldn't include increasing an already existing problem...

I know training a new grad nurse is expensive BUT the reward outweights that! all experienced nurses should help and pull the new nurses up on the ladder and just like that a chain is made and we can all help solve a problem that is affecting us directly (understaffing) I know it is easier said than done but just a thought...

Thank you for clarifying and letting everyoye know what a foreign educated nurse has to go through to be able to work in the US. It is all about accents not skills and knowledge, I remember I too had to take the NCLEXRN which determines whether or not you are competent and safe to practice. BUT knowing what your collague nurse is trying to tell you in report? or trying to figure out what the MD wants? come on, don't hiring managers interview first?

hahah I would take that any time any day! I am a foreign nurse and people can't even tell I'm not from here. I think it's dedication in one's part to be the best you can be. And I do believe it is frustrating when you can't understand someone specially when it is as important as your own health, the patient has the right to be able to understand everything related to his health, therefore effective communication has to take place.

I am also newly licensed in California since july, I was advised to take a RN refresher course even though I had just passed the boards since I moved from overseas and have not practiced in about 5 yrs. My RN refresher which includes clinical, since not all of them do, it is almost over and still haven't found a job in Sac area. I does seem like you have to know someone and I really don't know anyone so any help would be greatly appreciated!!!!! I am bi-lingual (spanish) and have a BSN
