  2. I am sorry to hear about your struggles with finding a new NP job and also going through a divorce at this time. Hang in there...I hope things get better soon :)
  3. I received both my bachelor and Master of Science in Nursing from a well known school in the Northwest and from my knowledge they did not contact any of my references via phone or email. Goodluck with your application...
  4. You are correct, the title of the thread is "The economy and NP jobs" and Yes I did get some nice responses. I do realize that and was not stating otherwise. Thanks!!!
  5. Thanks for responding. This thread was literally hi-jacked, no big deal though...LOL
  6. I love working with underserved populations. In fact, this is where I have been searching for jobs and I still haven't found any positions. My passion is to work with the underserved so each week I continue to look at the job listing from these clinics. Like you said, with the economy the way it is maybe they will start to open up more positions . Thanks for all the great responses.
  7. Hi, I am a new grad FNP and am finding a lot of difficulties finding FNP jobs, in a family practice setting. I am thinking a large part of this has to do with the state of the economy. I have seen several job opening for specialties (neuro, pain management, rheumatology) but only one part time position in a family practice setting (I applied and am waiting to hear back...nothing yet). Are any other new grads encountering the same thing? And if so, whats your plan of action for attaining an NP job? At this point it seems like the minute clinic is my best bet because I've already scheduled an interview with them and it seems promising. Or I can apply from some of the speciality positions but then again it still wouldn't be family practice. What to do?
  8. I just completed a FNP program this June and would recommend completing NP school before having kids, because both raising a family and going to school is VERY HARD WORK. It can be done but it will be a challenge. Two of the ladies I graduated with knew they wanted to start families soon, so what they did was get pregnant 4-6 months before we graduated. My class graduated in June '08. One classmate gave birth last month and the other one will give birth in December...so thats another option.
  9. Thanks for the update. Instead of giving you the guilt trip your supervisor should've inquired more about ways they can improve the position so that more NPs dont quit. If two of you both quit in the same amount of time that should tell him that something is immensely wrong and needs to be corrected asap....Goodluck with your job search. I hope you get that job in Cardiology you wanted Good for you:yeah:
  10. Thanks for the response. I have a phone interview scheduled with the minute clinic but will most likely cancel it. After a lot of thinking I know in my heart that getting at least 2+ years of primary care experience in a group practice would benefit both myself and my patients tremedously. The NP jobs for Family Practice are scarce here and the fact that the agency that I am currently working for as a RN will be losing their contract with my current employer in December (meaning I will be unemployed) MADE the minute clinic seem like a perfect job. I applied and didn't expect them to contact me since I am new grad, but when they did I can't lie....the idea of having a job made me happy. I'am still looking for a primary care experience and am hopeful that I will find something:o Wish me luck...
  11. i am a new grad fnp and recently applied for a position with the minute clinic. however, i am concerned that such a position will not be challenging enough to maintain my skills. what do other think about this this? vivarn already asked this question and no one responded so i thought i'd give it another try. i'd really like to get some feedback on this topic. update: i found the answer on the discussion below (for those interested), please disregard. https://allnurses.com/forums/f34/nps-retail-clinic-252709.html
  12. I hope you get this position...I will be sending good thoughts your way :)
