  1. I'm a school nurse but the funniest thing I ever heard came from my son. He was about 8 years old at the time and my husband and I were taking him step by step through the facts of life. We had a series of books that we would read at the appropriate times. We had gone through the first two books (one for 5-6 years old and the 2nd for ages 7 to 8). The third book gave antomically correct body parts for men and women. After reading the book, we asked Mark if this was new to him or if he already knew about this. His response? Well, I didn't know women had virginias." My boy knew his states!
  2. :bluecry1:Ihad a student who came to school with just a note. He went to a BS of 21!! I told the parents that he could not come back to school until I had a doctor's orders. It was so scary! This is my first year of school nursing and is it sure an eye opener!!
  3. I was told by other nurses in my district to schedule my lunch. I take it from 2:30 to 3:00 and then I designated 3:00 to 3:30 as my prep time. This is a first for the teachers and there is some teaching to do with some of them but for the most part it's working. I know that's late for a lunch but lunchtime at my school is from 10:45 until 1:30 and then I have some meds and procedures to do until 2:30.
  4. you are all making me feel so fortunate! I have a computer in my office and one in the Health Center. We have computerized documentation including Daily Logs, Daily medications, daily procedures, immunizations, health screening and incident reporting. It is very user friendly. This is my first year as a school nurse and even though I feel overwhelmed with immunizations and vision/hearing screenings that are due, I think I'm going to love this change of direction in my nursing career.
