Ambulances?
The government has set targets in which an ambulance has to be at the scene within 8 mins. The majority 78% do. http://www.ic.nhs.uk/news-and-events/press-office/press-releases/june-2008/more-ambulance-services-than-ever-before-reach-life-threatening-incidents-within-target-time The problem is abuse. Recently a report was issued showing reasons why ambulances were called. This included a cut finger, not able to get a taxi after a night out and a scratch from a cat.......

Any info on "Continental Travel Nurse?"
Hi Carluke Not heard of them myself so no advice there. Just do your homework and thoroughly look into them. I would also continue to look for jobs yourself and maybe write/email some HR departments. This link is for NHS Lanarkshire Jobs. It is updated monthly. The main hospitals you would be looking at are Hairmyers, Monklands and Wishaw. http://www.jobs.scot.nhs.uk/version2/results.aspx?type=reg&no=11 Good luck and Happy New Year

I have an 8 year old daughter and I cant even begin to imagine that little girls pain. Gave my daughter an extra hard bear hug at bed time tonight . Continue to keep that little girl safe and my thoughts are with you both. Continue to do an outstanding job. xxx

Canada to Scotland...staff or bank nurse??
In the UK if you work for the NHS it is broken down into health authorities called "trusts" which cover different areas. If living in Lanarkshire the trust is NHS Lanarkshire. The biggest hospital being Hairmyers.

Welcome to the forum - UK nurses chat
Hi guys, sorry I havent introduced myself yet. How rude! (Just found this wee sticky post.) Im Pamela and live in sunny Glasgow, and hoping to immigrate to America. Long wait I know, but fully committed. Live with hubby and 2 kids. And currently working in medical admissions. Which I love. Will probably copy Jane and work to improve myself while waiting for America. Working night shift tonight then off for Christmas. Wishing everyone a very Merry Christmas x x x

8:1 pt load, foreign nurses, let's import more to maintain profits, keep costs down!!
In the UK we often work to this ratio. Its not a bad thing, its not dangerous, its the norm. I can work to this ratio no bother at all. I am a good nurse and a safe nurse. I will still get all my work done and have a chance to talk and have a laugh with my patients. Not all will be independant with different levels of care required. Some will be very unwell. I still work well to a high standard of care within hospital policies. You imply that foreign nurses working to this ration are dangerous, but this is not the case at all.

Topic of the Day: GO AWAY FOREIGN NURSES!
Hi yoginurse, good post and expresses how a lot of us have felt for a long time. As you know, Im a UK trained nurse and proud to be. I am a very good nurse if I dont say so myself. LOL And where ever I work I will always give 100% and be an asset to any hospital. I too have felt the negativity towards foreign nurses. A big cyber hug to you. Keep your chin up doll. (as we say in Scotland) xxx

Canada to Scotland...staff or bank nurse??
I dont necessary think its harder to find a job as a new grad in my trust. It depends on where you are looking to work, and you need to be realistic with your experience. Do you know where you will be living to narrow down your search?
