  1. Many of these students come back and do extremely well. I know in my program they do. We had four people that came back from Fall 2010 and they are getting high test scores in the first and second semester. And while you can say semester 1 is a review for them, semester 2 is not.
  2. I know!! After first semester finals and we lost people..several of us that were in the same study group were in the parking lot crying for our fellow students because we had gotten so close in those few months.
  3. Congrats!! My program went up to alternative 28 last fall!
  4. Today was final exams and we didn't lose anyone:yeah:. Last fall semester we lost 9. 6 failed out and 3 decided they did not want to pursue nursing. How many have you lost in this spring semester?
  5. This is what i usually do but he will go to the fridge open it look around and says he doesnt want anything but I know he's hungry because he keeps going to the fridge. At the grocery store I even let him put what he wants in the cart and he goes right to the fruit section. He will occasionally eat salad...yaaay!!He likes yogurt and eggs though and Morningstar veggie sausage but other than that it's really hard. Some things he used to eat like oatmeal chicken but all of a sudden he says he doesnt like it anymore. I do give him vitamins gummies, he loves those. Thanks all for the suggestions.
  6. My problem with my 6 year old, I cant hardly get him to eat anything. He loves fruits occassionaly I can get him to eat veggies but he doesnt like much of anything. I do not allow him to eat junk food and he only eats candy on Halloween, the doctor told me not to worry about it because he will grow out of it but that was when he was 3 yrs old! He will be 6 yrs old in November and dinnertime is so stressful. People always tell me to make him a healthy dinner and if he gets hungry enough he will eat it...wrong:no:. He will go to bed without eating. Sometimes I just do not know what to do.
  7. Hi missy welcome, I just joined the other day and I have been getting on ever since...lol. It is so interesting to hear the different perspectives and I have learned alot of interesting things about nursing that I did not know about. Good and bad.:chuckle
  8. The anatomy coloring book helped me because by using the different colors it helped tell the difference between different parts especially the muscles. Although it is very tedious at times it was because of that I remembered where everything was. I also cut out the parts i colored and added them to my flashcards. It worked for me and I got an A in the class.
  9. im not a nurse but i think the one misconception is the money. Everytime I tell people that my major is nursing, the first thing they say is,"nurses make a lot of money.!" It never fails someone always gives me that comment. I know nurses do make decent money, I live in the bay area so the cost of living is very high and the wages nurses earn does not compensate for the high cost of living here. Anyway for all that nurses do and go through they should make more money. When I first started taking my prerequisites in 2003 my sister was graduating in health management, when she told people what her major was I didnt here people saying, "wow u are going to make alot of money". She's close to making 6 figures now, no weekends or holidays. Nurses are overworked and underpaid.
  10. Why not they are helping everybody else?...housing, banks, other countries. Why not help pay educators more money? They provide the best of services but get less pay. In the end the government will pay for this nursing shortage...they can pay now or pay later the choice is theirs.
  11. I live in the bay area, I applied to community colleges and universities and did not get accepted into any of them nor did 5 of my classmates despite my 4.0 GPA:crying2:. I have been told that it is very competitive and they turn away thousands of qualified student every year. There is not enough nurse educators because financially it doesnt make since for them to quit working at the hopital to come and teach for a lower wage. I have also been told by a rep at SFSU that they do not have enough room to accomadate all the students. They received 1200 applicants but only accepted 82. I quit my job and moved back home so I could go to school full-time. Now that I didnt get accepted into the program it is going to set me back a whole year! And I was also told that it could happen again. I really want to be a nurse but I have to be realistic as I am the divorcee with a 5 year old. I need to get back to work. So I am transferring to my local university under Health Administration (management). I've been doing some research and I hear this is happening all across the board. There is supposed to be a nursing shortage but many qualified students are being turned away. It seems like the govt would step in and help these schools pay more to nurse educators. I think we are going to lose lots of students that would make excellent nurses due to this problem. Anybody else having problems getting into a nursing program?
