what is an appropriate migraine treatment
from primary care for onset triptans (different ones work for different pts), toradol injections, fiorecet and combo of nsaid with benadyl is what i give that has been most successful depending on pt but if getting more than a few a month propranolol, topamax, or sometimes antidepressant low dose such as nortyptaline at night as been effective for prevention but where i live you have to make sure is in state formulary along with in sca as off-label use

Drug Rep Hassles
I agree that if you are having a problem with reps verbalizing with staff/ managers about expectations is the way to go. At my current job with only me and the MD who is also the owner, who is very pro-rep, the reps have learned the differences between our policies. The MD stopped to talk during the day to them which I believe affected pt satisfaction. The patients would complain to me that he was running behind but could here him outside the door talking to reps. I actually had signs posted in the lobby "NP does not see reps during patient appt hours" etc with receptionist verbalizing this. I do appreciate learning about new classes coming out and talk with them at appropiate times but I think just setting your own clear boundaries over time it will get better. In our area many reps have lost there jobs due to "restructuring" ie layoffs, which could be cause for some of them to be overzelous but should also be reason for them to be listening to your feedback also

Nursing students! What has been the hardest part of NURSING school?!
I am also a wife/mom and am starting my 2nd year in a 3 year grad entry program. Bring on the organization and prioritization, its been sink or swim! I noticed that most students including me, have developed anxiety and have had to learn how to cope with that. All lot of us are over-achievers and have learned to be accepting of our imperfection.

mediport/SCAP/VAP IVPsyringes
I'm a student and was in clinical yesterday getting a IVP meds ready when an RN said that I must transfer them to a 10mL syringe to use for a dual chamber mediport. I discussed with my clinical instructor and I went ahead and transfered them to the 10mL but niether of us came across any reading about this (she is Dr.) Both of us have about CVCs like PICCs but thought the mediport handled the pressure, especially as many drugs slowly admin. over minutes. Please fill us in! I have been trying to look this up but have found nothing.:icon_roll

Anyone starting a Grad-Entry Program this Fall?
Art education is what I leaving, but I still love it. I am signed up for the google digest but I am a little old for facebook I think. I have a family also which I noticed makes me a minority in the program. Do you? I am working part-time subbing and as care-giver, but will stop if I get to runned down. I am really lucky to have a friend helping watch my son during those night classes. My husband has coaching and so many things that he does that I have traditionally been the supporter behind the scenes. I can really see how this going to change the family dynamics since I won't always be available. That's one reason I am getting all my ducks in row early, so I won't be totally driving my family nuts!LOL:clown:

Anyone starting a Grad-Entry Program this Fall?
I start at OSU this fall also! I am preparing like mad and have already received some of the texts :) I think that a particular struggle that grad entry program students have is walking away from successes and opportunities in former fields, which I have particularly struggled with. Does anyone else share in this? Thanks in advance for support on making the big switch. I am in FNP specialty and look forward to seeing you in some classes! -Sarah

Anatomy Online??
I took a hybrid course, which had both an on campus lab and online component. I really learned a lot form lab instructor, working in real time asking questions that just came to mind in the moment. I can not imagine solely learning this online without looking at the variations in cadavers. Also I think it prepares you for ick factor if you get squeimish. Also lab partners add alot too, tatally online can be isolated. I speak as a fellow busy working/mom/wife. Good luck!

Master's Entry - Chances of Acceptance - Honest Opinion Wanted
I am from an art education background and was accepted to a major univ. grad entry program. I start this fall -yeahyah:) I had many of your same concerns. I earned A's in my pre-reqs and had great academic (I talked with advisor before hand and they did not want work) references from those classes. My essay acknowledged my untraditional route to nursing but connected it, my advice is don't be afraid to be "personal" in your essay and don't over analyze yourself into a rut, anything in life that is worthwhile invloves some risk :) I look at it like you don't want to be anywhere that is not going to respect your unique perspective either. Like in art I feel like I have developed a heightened ability for percieving relationships and picking up of visual cues in both logical and intuitive way. Your background gave you other transferable skills. Good luck!
