  1. Is there anything that says there must be at least two nurses on a unit? I work somewhere that continuously works us by our self on a unit with a couple unlicensed aids. God forbid a patient should code...gonna be tough working it by myself. Not to mention the fact that this is a locked psych unit...seems like a HUGE safety issue to me!
  2. Rather than ortolani and barlow...I could understand a simple typo on the powerpoint, but to repeatedly call them by the wrong names in lecture is outrageous!
  3. Note the spelling on my powerpoint! Both of them are spelled wrong and the instructor even called them "ortolini" and "bartolini" WHICH ARE INCORRECT! That is what I was getting at...I was not actually looking for info on it!
  4. This was on one of our lecture power points...Bad thing is, the instructor discussed "ortolini" and "bartolini" the whole lecture!!!!
  5. WOW! How long is everyone studying for NCLEX? Sounds like several months! I just graduated last night, am taking the Hurst Review next week & hope to take the NCLEX by the end of the month...Am I rushing it?
  6. Here it is two semesters later, and I have seen a lot during my time as a tech in the ED! Tonight is my graduation from my nursing school and May 23 I start as an RN App in the same ER...Thanks to everyone for the encouraging posts!
  7. I have been using NCLEX 4000 to practice for boards...How similar are these questions to NCLEX questions? Is this good preparation. Also, next week I will be attending a HURST review...How big of a help is this review usually? I know they claim it to be the best thing since sliced bread, but would like to hear from others who have taken it!
  8. I may should have posted this in the student section...if someone has the capability to move it, please do!
  9. Yes, printed or cursive?
  10. Which writing style is correct? or does it even matter?
  11. Thanks for all the help...the ideas were a definite push in the right direction
  12. Why am I having so much trouble with these care plans for peds? It seems like nothing fits! I am having to do a care plan for a 14 month old female with the flu. Everything I come across seems more like adult or geriatric problems. I have come up with... Hyperthermia r/t an infectious process Imbalanced nutrition: less than body requirements r/t decrease in appetite due to illness Sleep deprivation r/t discomfort AEB obstructed nasal passages (really reaching on this one!)
  13. Thank you so much for that...I think I understand it now! That video was great!
  14. So uptake = the neurotransmitter is used and with reuptake= it is destroyed or not used? so reuptake inhibitor = more neurotransmitter to be used by the brain?
  15. We did not have a seperate pharm class so I feel we are a little behind in this anyway, but at the moment we are learning the different classes of psych meds, the meds, what they do etc, and I am having trouble understanding uptake & reuptake...can someone help me out here?
  16. Ours also assume we know absolutely NOTHING! The basics are started with as if we have never done any of it, which most had not!
  17. I am doing the 2 year program & did not have to take statistics. As far as the pharm goes, it is taught as we go rather than a seperate pharmacology class. I am wishing I would have found one to take though!
  18. I am in 3rd level clinicals (out or 4)...at the beginning of each level, we get a dosage test that we have to pass to proceed. Before hand, they post practice questions & each semester, it seems that they get worded a little different. This semester, the way they word them threw me off at first. Now I have it down again, I passed the dosage test and am moving on with 3rd level! Thanks again!
  19. AWESOME!!! Thank you so much...now that I see it, I am wondering why I could not figure it out! LOL! It is one of those DUH!! moments...
  20. Need a little help for some reason! I have had dosage down without any problems up until now at the beginning of 3rd level. I don't know if they are wording them differently or what, but I am stumped! Order: 200 mg labetolol continuous infusion at 1 mg/min. Supplied: 250 mL NS IV bag and a vial with labetolol 5mg/mL. The label states to remove 90 mL from a 250 mL NS IV bag before adding labetolol. How many mL labetolol will the nurse add to the IV bag? ______________mL What is the total IV fluid volume (NS + labetolol)? ____________mL To deliver 1mg/min as ordered the nurse will set the IV infusion pump at ___________mL/h. The patients has an IV flowing at a rate of 10 gtt/min. The IV bag contains a solution of 500 mL NS with 20,000 Units of heparin. The drop factor is 15 gtt/mL. How many units is the patient receiving every hour? __________ Units/h How many units is the patient receiving every 24 hours? _________Units/24 h
  21. I have been meaning to ask my psych clinical instructor about his opinion...I will be making myself a note to ask him!
  22. Sounds about right...they do not give you much time at all! I made it into the Fall 2009 class which started in Sept, we found out we made it at the end of August & had a whole 2 1/2 weeks to run around getting the required immunizations, scrubs, supplies, books, etc. It was like a mad scramble! Good Luck!
  23. Glad to see I am not alone in this...
  24. Just curious about this...all my literature refers to the patients as clients now, has this turned into more of a business? When I think client, I think business, customer, etc.
