Why aren't we unionized?
Sincere congratulations !!! You are indeed fortunate. The bigger picture, all nurses have to stick together in order to advance our profession. Look at the Doctors for example. They stick together. They have fellowships for their up and coming doctors. Have you ever heard of a resident working for free? Nurses need to advocate for one another. When one member suffers, the entire body suffers.

Why aren't we unionized?
I have never seen an objective evaluation. It has been my experience that we are all paid pretty much the same. In fact at my local hospital there is not a dollar difference that separates a new grad from someone like me - 10 year nurse, BSN, working on MSN, ICU, ER

Why aren't we unionized?
YOU ARE FORTUNATE TO WORK AT A HOSPITAL THAT DOES REWARD THEIR NURSING STAFF. THE HOSPITAL THAT I WORK AT NOW STARTS THEIR RN'S AT 17.50 PER HOUR. WE ALSO HAVE A 2% COST OF LIVING RAISE TO LOOK FOREWARD TO. THE NURSING HOME PAYS 30-32 PER HOUR FOR RN'S . THIS HOSPITAL CANNOT FIGURE OUT WHY THEY ARE UNABLE TO RECRUIT NURSES. FOR DECEMBER, THERE ARE SOME DAYS THAT THERE IS NO RN SCHEDULED. JUST AREN'T ANY. I WORK PER DIEM, THEREFORE I MAKE A MUCH BETTER RATE THAN STAFF OR I WOULDN'T WORK EITHER.

And Now.....What Do You LIKE to Do At Work?
I love the people I work with. I love a good trauma. I love the opportunity to learn new things

Why aren't we unionized?
There are many nurses out there working who are treated well by management and enjoy their jobs. The reason, in my humble opinion, to join a union is for fellow nurses who are not working under the conditions they deserve. The more voices, the more power we as a profession have to effect changes for all who work in our profession. Have a good day.

Why aren't we unionized?
I have a friend who is a male nurse who is always saying that if nursing were a male profession, wages and working conditions would be a lot different than they currently are. I tend to agree.

Why aren't we unionized?
I think they are afraid because the standards and conditions will have to be improved for nurses. Administration will have to treat nurses humanely instead of demanding more work for little money. In Trinidad, Co, the nurses unionized. the hospital basically sent them packing iunder the pretense they were not needed. Now the hospital is using agency. go figure
