Managers and Leadership: Some stand above the rest
Hi Everyone! I was thinking today about past managers that I have had. Some were ok and able to handle things.....and some did it in such a way that people fought to be part of that unit. I would love to hear your stories about managers and leaders that were wonderful. How would you describe them? What kinds of traits did they have that you admired? Here is my little story.. Trauma Patient came into the ED. It was going to be a close call but it looked hopeful in the beginning. Unfortunately, we couldn't get the bleeding to stop and then he coded. Our team tried everything, but despite all of us working like maniacs we couldn't save him. I am sure many of you have felt this moment before. Needless to say it hadn't been a great day and this ended up being the icing on the cake. We prepared to go through the motions of clean up. Well none of us had realized how much blood had gotten on the floor. Our CNO walked by as the code happened and saw all of our faces drop. She stepped in and made us all step back for a second while she helped to clean up the floor. You could see the caring in her eyes. l knew that she was there for us not just to run the hospital and make rules. She cared. Love to hear your stories!

What would you do?
I couldn't agree more with CarneyD! A school being accredited is a huge deal. It shows a lot in their quality. You should also ask any school that you are interested in going to what their passing rate is for the NCLEX for the past 5 years. That will show you how well they are really preparing their students. You definately do not want to start putting in all of this money to not be able to pass the test at the end to get your license. I wish you the best of luck!

Does a BSN earn you more in Northern CA
The new hospital is called the Modesto Medical Center. It is pretty far from San Francisco. With traffic it would probably take 4 hrs to drive there. Without traffic probably about 2.5 hrs. But they also have a bunch of facilities across all of NCAL, including one in San Francisco. If you are really interested let me know I can get you in touch with some great people in Modesto. I miss the place but my hunny needed to go back to school.

Does a BSN earn you more in Northern CA
Hi there! I can tell you that Kaiser (which is HUGE in NCAL) doesn't pay more for a BSN. But they have great wages and benefits! But if you want to move up into management positions then the BSN will be a huge benefit to you to have it. I loved working there and couldn't recommend it more. You should check out the new Modesto Hospital that they just opened this month! Plus housing prices there are getting very cheap. Especially in Riverbank, a near by small town. Good Luck with your search!

Ogden Utah
Hi Mani! Well let me start by saying Odgen is a great place! I can definately see why it made it onto your husband's list. Within the last year I moved to Utah from California. I am a fan of the HCA facilities that fall under the MountainStar Division, Ogden Regional is one of them. I also had a lot of help from a great Nurse Recruiter. Just google her if you want some help. Her name is Kirin Krebs. Otherwise I wish you luck with the move! One thing you will definately love out here in Utah is the lack of humidity! No more frizzy hair. Plus there are some really nice people. Good Luck with everything!:)

Is an Online school accepted for an RN in utah?
Hi I would strongly advise you to make sure that the school is Accredited. It is a sad day when you have spent all of this money and your schooling causes employers to think less of you *Big tip* The strength of the clinicals help signal the strength of the school. I would absolutely not touch Excelsior with a 10foot poll. They have a very bad rep.
