  1. In my opinion, as a new to practice nurse I lucked out and got day shift- 3 12's. But at my hospital (and basically every hospital) its pretty impossible to have sundays off-especially when you're new. I dont have to work every Sunday, but I have to put in 3 weekend days in a 6 week period, not counting Fridays (We need to put in 3 of them too).
  2. In my opinion (and maybe b/c Im a nurse) out of all the specialties (nursing, PT/OT, speech pathologist, respiratory therapists) the nurses are the front runners. We do it all-and were the ones calling the different specialties when our patients need it. It's a very rewarding profession-and yes you will get "annoying" patients and it can be busy and frustrating, but you'll also get a lot more kind, touching patients who truly appreciate what you do. It takes a special person to be a nurse and if you think you can be that kind of person, go for it, dont let others tell you your not cut out for it. Good luck and I hope you choose nursing. Its worth it : )
  3. Im from South Jersey but work in Philadelphia...in this area its farely easy to find a GN job...I actually work with two GN's from Connecticut and Massachusetts who moved to Philadelphia to work in the area.
  4. I guess it all depends on the area where you live. I went to college In Central PA (its more of a rural area) and my classmates found it tougher to find jobs, but Im from the Southern Jersey/Philadelphia area and jobs are pretty easy to find. For the people from MA, are you near the boston area?
  5. I work within UPHS and commute from SJ...depending on where in SJ the commute isnt bad at 7 A and 7 P. It only takes me about 20 minutes each way, not including shore traffic on weekends, sporting events, or the occasional accident...good luck to you.
  6. There are alot of good hospitals in the SJ area...such as Cooper which has a great trauma center/ER, Our Lady of Lourdes also in Camden, Many in the more suburban areas....and of course Philadelphia is right across the bridge...many oppurtunities there. I had family as pts. at Cooper and friends as nurses and I hear nothing but good things. Good luck!
  7. I had 86 or 87...Im not positive the number...a few SATA...mostly priority/delegation and found out today I passed!!!! Dont sweat it.....Im sure you did too!
  8. Okay, if anything study, study, study INFECTIOUS CONTROL. Know the difference between contact, droplets, airborne and standard....and the various diseases which incorporate these precautions and why. It was a good half of my test....also delegation. Remember your ABC's and keep in mind if theyre talking about post-op patients....those the longer days/hours post-op are the most stable. Honestly, no one is going to feel good about this test. I cried and was sick after I took it. And dont beat yourself up about the number you stopped at....I stopped at a very random 84, and I only had a few SATA and NO math....so that means nothing either. If I can do it...ANYONE CAN!!! Be positive....youve made it through the 4 toughest years of your life....you can pass this test. Good luck everyone : )
  9. Ménière's disease is a disorder of the inner that can affect hearing and balance. It is characterized by episodes of dizziness and tinnitus and progressive hearing loss, usually in one ear. It is caused by an increase in volume and pressure of the endolymph of the inner ear. It's probably one of the only endocrine diseases not thoroughly taught in nursing school, and it shows up on the test!!! Keep in mind, people with this disease need a low-sodium diet. Hope it helps : )
  10. Thanks...I found at around 49 hours that I PASSED!
  11. I took my nclex two days ago, and at first felt OK about it. Then of course I second guessed everyone answer I chose, and actually looked some of them up which just stressed me out and made me crazy. I cried, felt sick for the past two days!!! I stopped at 80 something and had many of the same types of questions everyone else seemed to have...priority, infectious control, meds I have never heard of in my life.....I keep checking pearson vue and it says "Exam results not yet available" Its been almost 49 hours...whats the deal?? Did anyone else have this problem?
