  1. I'm currently taking Anatomy, At Solano College it is a pre-req for Phisio as well. I need to take phisio next semester, and am thinking about taking Micro as well. Just worried about getting decent grades in both.
  2. Thinking about taking Phiosilogy and Micro next semester. Have any of you done this? How hard was it? Or am I crazy?
  3. It ought to count for something, it's worth a try. I say get your transcripts evaluated asap! So if there is anything they give you credit for you don't end up already registering for it. Good Luck!
  4. You don't sound annoying, you're just like the rest of us on this forum trying to find some answers! Check Solano.edu for their graduation requirements. I think they require a a certain number of units be taken with them(meaning with Solano), but I am not sure.Maybe units taken during the actual program would work? If all else fails meet with a counselor. I think the place I read that was under option A of the graduation requirements, but again check everything for yourself, and don't take anyones word on anything. It's always good to do your own research, what if I am wrong? Good luck and let me know what you find out. Good luck!
  5. Solano does go by priority, but if you have previous credits they will be articulated next semester and you will recieve a higher priority. I suggest showing up every time the anatomy class you want to add meets and try to add that way. I would try a couple of them. With any luck you may find an opening within the first couple sessions. I tried one class last semester with no luck. This semester is the first time I've had enough priority to register. Not exactly for my first pick, but I am still delighted. FYI- They will not let the people stay who are trying to add, after they take roll and pick a few names out of the "hat" those who are not added have to leave, but keep coming back. Also don't worry about bio 16, it's only a course advisory, you don't have to have it. I don't. As far as classes left before I can apply, I have Anatomy, Phisio, and Micro. With any luck I will be ready to apply to Solano's waitlist this time next year. I will hopefully take Phisio in Spring, then Micro over the Summer. I have been taking classes for 2 years now. Only 1 or 2 a semester. I am also taking Mucis 008 with Walt Mickl..... for my human. gen ed. I hear it is a super easy A. I know Anatomy will require all my attention so anything easy will be great. Chem 10 is the higher Chem class right? That is great if you can start with that! Do't get discouraged with the wait time, it will fly by. Just last Spring I was feeling frusterated like this was never going to happen, but finally being able to take an actual Pre-req that relates to nursing renews my excitment! I feel like a gitty.
  6. If you are willing to travel the 20 mins. to Napa and take Chen 110 there it would save you a year!. If you stay at Solano you will have to complete math 104 and take chem 160 and chem 10! The other way you can just have math 102, and the chem 110 will get you into Phsio and Micro, I checked with a Solano counselor. I believe if you took some math in high school you must have 2 semesters wil a C or better in math to bypass your math. That is awesome if you do. I just finished Chem 110 at Napa with Mr.Smith. Depending on which Chem you had in high school , you may not need to take it. Check it out to be sure. If you feel comfortable with your knowledge I would get signed off on the classes and proceed. Alot of the Chem and math knowledge will be reviewed in Pharmacology. Also, a site I found very helpful was ratemyprofessor.com I look up different instructors before class starts, and even before registering sometimes. Just to get a feel for what to expect. Good Luck!
  7. I am taking Margarita Molnar, but am going to try and add John Nogue's T-Th class because it fits better with my kids school schedule.
  8. Don't you dare let anyone discourage you! You already have an education under your belt and have proven you can do it. My cousin attended Oakland CC after waitlisting several colleges, and she really liked it. She got in after 1 year on the wait list. She lives in San Francisco. The main thing that would help move you up on a wait list is your overall GPA, and especially your pre-req GPA. I'm not sure about all the schools, but the ones I have looked into, look at both of those to determine (along with other things) to determine your spot on the waitlist. It use to be a first come first serve basis. Solano CC now starts a new program every semester to ease the wait. They say the wait there is still 2-3 years, but even before they started soing the new programs every semester, I have a friend who was told 2-3 years also and sho get in 8 months! I would advise not meeting with that counselor again, Don't let the fact that maybe he doesn't like his job be your problem. Surrond yourself with positive supportive people. You can do it.
  9. Math, math, math! That is where you need to start. In high school did you take any pre-algebra, or algebra? If you completed it with a C or better it will place you higher in your courses. You need math for just about everything.Math to Chem, Chem to Phisiology, Phisiology to Microbiology.Anatony has no prereqs, but is hard to get into if you don't have good priority registration. I have C priority and finally got in this semester, you could always try to add though. You need math for just about everything though. I am going this route,Math 102, to Chem 110(at Napa),Anatomy,Phisiology then Microbiology. If you take Chem at Solano you need a higher Math than 102, you need 104 ,an additional Chemistry class,(so 2) and then you can take bio sci 5 and 14. If you havn't ordered your high school transcripts you might want to think about doing that. Even though you didn't graduate you may have something on there that will save you a semester or two.
  10. I'm not sure how it is to work there as a Nurse, but as a Medical Assistant it wasn't bad. From the people I went to school with the ones of us who got on at Kaiser got pais the most, for doing the least amount of work. I think the union for the MA's is really strong, it is alomst impossible to get fired, so many of the MA's become snotty. The RN's have a different union though. My Mom is an RN at Kaiser with 11 more years until retirement and she loves it. They have lots of perks, like their 401k, forgivable loans, and such. For a while they were matching her contribution to her retirement .80 to the $1.00.Not bad. She also took advantage of the forgivable loan. Right now they only offer in in So Cal, that is why I mentioned Kaiser. I wish they still had it up here. On a different subject, my husband has also not been the most supportve. Baby steps are important, giving them a little to digest at a time. I have about a year before I can apply to the program and he is finally showing some support/excitement. It took a while. Be patient with him and pray about it. Good luck.:wink2:
  11. Getting a decent GPA will help you get a better place on the waitlist as well. They look at your pre-req GPA seperately, then your overall GPA. I have been taking classes since Fall 2006, 1-2 a semester.I took Nutri 10, Math 102 with English 370, then PE with Eng 1(online), right now I am taking Chem 110 at NapaValley to bypass math 104 and Chem 10. Doing my chem at Napa saves a year!!! If you havn't taken your Chem I would reccomend x-fering to Napa for one semester just to take chem only, that is the only clas I would advise takinh at Napa. It's a nice school but unorganized, and I know Nurses who have taken their program and were unable to pass the state boards. Their pass rates are bad. If you want more info let me know. So I am registered for Anatomy and Music 008(online) for the Fall. What kind of high school classes do you have and any other college classes?
  12. I know other hospitals don't pay as much as Kaiser, but the union handbook states that new hires start off at between $39-50 an hour depending if you don't need their benefits. So if your husband already has ecent healthcare you can waive yours, and get 12% more! After six months you start making more. Then again this is Nor Cal. They also offer a couple extra dollars if your shift starts after 2pm. So I guess it may depend on where you live and work, but many of the same day surgery centers also start off at $48-52 an hour around here. So I didn't misquote that 100k a year figure.
  13. From what I've heard the older nurses eat their young. That may be her way of dealing with the fact that you are now her equal? It made her feel good that you were less than her as a student, possibly. Sad huh. Don't let her insecure nature make you feel alienated.
  14. Every nurse I've ever met had to start out on nights.
  15. We have the same long wait in Solano County, the waitlist says 2-3 years however, many on that list have applied at several other schools and will end up attening other schools. Thus easing the wait. I have a friend they told the wait was over 2 years, they called her to start the program in 8 months!!! The time is going to pass anyway. In 2012 you can be making 50k a year or over 100,000 as a nurse. Kaiser pays the best and they have forgivable loans for 25k if you work for them for 5 years after you graduate. Free money, and a guaranteed job with the best paying hospital around. I'll take it! Don't get discouraged. My Mom was 34 with 4 kids going through a divorce when she entered the RN program. Now she's living pretty comfortable. Just think about your bottom line. Good Luck!
