Is there any way you could negotiate with your training hospital so you can be off to take your exam? I would personally prefer to get paid for the work I do. We all need to eat, don't we? However, taking an exam doesn't guarantee you the job as yet. You still need to be interviewed etc... Other things to consider: 1. Will QC Hospital guarantee you a paid job (subject to good performance) should you complete your six months of unpaid training? 2. Will it be sustainable for you to work unpaid for another six months? Yo have to factor in your transport allowance, food, housing etc...

A brilliant thread you have started here Suzanne. I do hope that most Filipino nurses, if not all, become inspired to do something in their own little ways. It would be nice if those who have started this kind of programs can share their knowledge and experiences on how to start - permits, funding and all. I'm very impressed of those who get involved in this kind of projects but nurses may wonder if this will constitute as a valid experience should they decide to apply for jobs overseas. In my opinion, I think it should. Think of all those transferable skills that you have acquired. It is entirely up to the applicants to sell themselves to the interviewer. The only issue I could think of is, if the agency will even consider your resume in the first place. I believe they will most likely require acute hospital experience.

Many Thanks SilverDragon102. Just applied for NCLEX in Ca BON. I'm a little worried about my files being destroyed should it take longer than 3 years to sort out my visa. I really don't want my hard work be put into waste just like that. Any possible solution on this? I got the impression once you pass the NCLEX, you don't have to do it again. But that "after 3 years your file get destroyed if you're not here yet" is completely worrying.

I've been reading a few threads from this forum over the past months. I'm interested in moving to North California, possibly in San Francisco area. I've read something about retrogression. Does this affect everyone? What is it like to live there? Is weather any good :) This summer is pretty ..ite here at the moment. No better than last year. As a matter of fact, it's virtually inexistent. Would love a bit of change and challenge. Cost of living and quality of life. Would love to hear from fellow Brits.
