  1. um i think there is some confusion on my post and i apologize for not being specific. advocate does offer tuition reimbursement for continuing education (i.e from cna to rn, rn to cns, etc), not for new grads (i.e. nursing students who just finished nursing school).
  2. in chicago, resurrection hospitals have some form of tuition reimbursement (my friend works there). advocate illinois masonic used to have it but not anymore. u can check out more details at reshealth.org.
  3. thanks so much for ur support!!! made me feel better =)
  4. I was suspended for 1 day only. Anyways, I found out that I was not the only one who had received an unfair treatment at this facility. Other nurses had their shares as well. It is true, we have 25 people to take care of, and there are times there are admissions and transfers/discharges on the same day, making it a struggle to give out meds on time for 25 ppl. Sometimes I get 2 admissions too. I feel I barely have time to even talk to my residents but just give them their pills. This is making me want to leave the ltc scene...lol.
  5. oh forgot to add in, when there is a systemic error, the last nurse who committed the error takes all the blame.
  6. I would like to thank each one of you for taking the time to read and reply to my post. It was just a way of venting out my disappointment. I do feel the sentence was harsh, if it was just a verbal then it wouldn't have been as bad. I would like to add in some details to my previous post. Don't get me wrong, I do check to see if the resident's mouth after meds administration when I am not familiar with the resident and believes the resident to be confused. However, in this case, she does not have trouble swallowing nor has given anyone (including me) any problems with pills in the past. It just happens that this was the case, just my luck. The letter made it seem like they did some investigation and found me to be guilty but I believe that is a lie because I have a witness who was present with me during meds administration. When the DON showed me the letter of what the adminstrator wrote to the family member, I told her straight up this is a lie. She didnt say anything. She told me that not to take it personal, she was just following the administrator's orders and that this will not go into my records or anything. She also advises me not to tell the administrator that I saw the letter as it was confidential materials. I mean, if there's nothing for them to hide, if they did not accuse me, why can't i mention the letter? You see what i am saying? Of course, at the end of all that drama, I realized it was no use to defend myself and talk to the administrator because he was the one who accused me in the first place. This is not the first time I have been in trouble at this facility. I feel that they will do anything to divert the fault on them (that is, systemic error) and to please the family members. I do feel I need to get out of this place because if they can not even support a nurse in something little, I can not imagine how they will stand behind a nurse when a big problem arises like a lawsuit.
  7. U know, even if u r on the waiting list, theres still a chance you get in. Back then, a couple of my classmates who were not accepted to uic, applied to St. Xavier and got in. It was very easy process, did not require essay or letters of recommendations. I have heard that St Xavier is tougher to get in now. I was placed on the waiting list for uic but I got in eventually. Also, a recent CNA told me that there are nursing schools in Indianna that did not have waiting lists.
  8. I was recently got written up and suspended for an incident. I feel that I was innocent though for some reasons. I need some advice, as to know if this is really my fault, and if i deserve the punishment. So this is my story. The daughter of a resident was very upset that she found a pill in her mom's room. She complained to the supervisor and wrote a letter to the administrator because she was very upset. I was the nurse who gave her the night meds while a CNA was present. I gave the pillls to her, INTO her mouth and gave her water before i left, all of this while a CNA was present in the room (I know that the resident is confused). The letter the administrator wrote to the family stated that they are sorry for the inconvenience and traced back to the nurse who passed out the night meds and did not wait for the resident to finished her pills therefore will be subject to consequences for violating the facility policies. When I read that, I was like what?? I know what happened and I have a witness. That was a lie. I was present in the room with the pills into her mouth and did not leave until she drank enough water. I later had a talk with the CNA who revealed that she saw the resident taking a pill out of her mouth after i left. The CNA placed the pill on the table and was going to let me know but she forgot. That explains how the daughter found the pill. Anyways, the CNA never mentioned to me about anything until I asked her about it. If she had told me, I would certainly have done something about it. I just felt that the nursing home was trying to put the blame on me without listening to my point of the story. Well, my point of the story didn't matter somebody had to get in trouble and so it was me. Even though, I felt I already did the best I can in that situation. So do I really deserve this? Is this injustice or what?
  9. no im a citizen of the us. i know i dont use capitalizations and apostrophes when i should, thats just how i chat in a informal way lol (of course formal writing will be different). i would say the place is a mixture of non-immigrants and immigrant nurses. some of the nurses (americans) have been there for years. i dont know if i want to report on such behavior because im very new to the facility. even if they are paying me back for those hours, it is not a lot of money (maybe a couple hundred?). i feel it will cause a big damage to this place and i dont know if thats what i want. another thing i dont like about this place is that there is no acuity measurement. the people who work on the more acute floors (trach and g-tubes) get paid the same as the regular floors. not only that, but the nurse is still dealing with about 23-25 residents no matter what floor you are on.
  10. so ideally ur suppose to leave wen ur shift ends bc ur not getting paid for it. but if ur caught with not documenting that day u will get a notice for not being compliant with the medicare guidelines and have to document on another day for a late entry. so basically that day ur doing double the charting. and things can get pile up that way and eventually you will still never finish your work. One nurse who worked there one time had to cover about 40-50 residents because one nurse was a no-show. the facility did send a nurse to help him pass the night meds but he ended up staying about 2 hours late. he talked with administrator about being reimbursed for staying extra and they say no because u have your easy days and u have ur hard days. its not fair to the facility that they have to pay u for the hard days when they dont take money off from ur check when you have ur easy days. and that was a the reply....:uhoh21:
  11. At my current place of employment at this ltc/nursing home, u clock in and out when ur done with ur work but thing is, even if u stay extra u do not get paid for it. it is required that u have a really good excuse for staying late and u need to have it approved by the supervisor in order to get the pay for it. otherwise u can stay 1 or 2 hr late bc ur not done with ur medicare charting or what not (which is required each shift) and not get paid for it. even if u tell the superviser bc u have admissions or what not, its still not a valid excuse. however, if u clock in late, it will show what time u clock in on ur paystub but even if u clock out late, it will show that u leave exactly at 11:30 (i work 3-11 shift). so i usually stay a few min late when i come to work late to make up for it because it shows on my paystub but when i leave late it always say i leave on time and come on time. is this illegal? the only way someone gets ot in this facility is to work an extra day or shift. what should i do? if this is illegal, why has this been going on for years and years? or is this how most ltc and nursing homes run by?
  12. Hi. im not sure what gpa is good for acceptance to the program but i think they do place a pretty large weight on it or so it seems. i heard from someone who had all As and Bs and she was placed on the waiting list. There only take about 100 or so applicants for each class. i would recommend applying early and also make sure u have all paperwork on time including letters of recommendation and etc.
