? for L&D nurses from a preggo nurse
Hello everyone, I need some advice if you please. I'm a nurse and currently 28 weeks pregnant with my first child. My OB would like me to take a birth class, which I have looked into at my hospital. The thing is, it's a 8 hour class that goes over all stages of pregnancy, complications, pain management and what to expect during actual labor. Most of this I feel is redundant due to my history in nursing except the obvious as to what to expect during actual labor as a new mommy and what to expect at this particular hospital birthing unit. Do you think the birth classes are a waste of time or a good idea for me with my medical experience? I wanted to ask the experts in this field! Thanks in advance!

FCCJ Fall 2008
You know it's crazy to see how far we have come. I realized this the other day when our 4th semester schedule came out. We started this thread way back before we were even accepted! How time flies! We should seriously throw a party or have a meet and greet with everyone from this forum who made it at the end. I know I have still to meet half of you. Good luck to everyone and I am so happy we are almost there! :yeah::yeah:

Hey I am going into Peds and saw on the syllabus that we need to have 11 community service hours. Is this a typo? If we need that many any suggestions? I have some decent study guides for OB if anyone needs them. Did anyone find any sg for Peds? Any suggestions or tips to get through it are surely appreciated! I didn't check this forum until after I decided to take OB first. Good luck to everyone with their finals!! We are almost there and congratulations to all term 4 graduates!!

Ok so I am totally going to ask to see if anyone in our term or later terms knows the schedule for fourth term? Is it AH II for 8 or 12 weeks then role transformation for 3 or 4 weeks? I've heard conflicting stories here (surprise surprise) and need to know when we will be done. They said we have our pinning ceremony roughly Dec 7th. Does that mean we are totally done by then? Or are we supposed to actually be done when the rest of the school is done the week of the 14th Dec? I know we have a way to go but I don't know anyone in later terms than us. I don't want to ask the nursing department because I am sure they will get it wrong!! Thanks for reading!!

I don't know if anyone has answered this question for you yet but it's supposed to be with just your first name and last initial. I was told that it's so all the crazys can't come and find you after they get out of the hopsital. Which doesn't make any sense because you have a FCCJ name badge on too with your whole name. But you will get used to the confusion within the school. Good luck to all of you! I am going into second semester and my only advice is just keep moving forward, don't dwell on things you can't change. If you get a bad grade, chalk it up and do better next time. It's so hard to keep up but if you do a little bit at a time, you will be just fine. Oh and get a buddy! Someone who can help you study, do study guides and keep you up to date on what's due. Plus they will be your life line in keeping sane. No one outside of the nursing school will understand so vent all you can in school and with your nursing friends. We've all been there! So GOOD LUCK!!!!!!!!

I thought that maybe it wouldn't be too late to apply for some scholarships as well. I know there's a site through the school that you can put your name in and write a small essay and it searches the databases. They talked about it at the financial aide workshop. There's so many scholarships that aren't applied for. It might help.

my caseworker (at another campus) told me that since it is required, they will include it. she didn't say anything about it eating into any future funds. also we did save some money by buying the box of books and she was happy about that. i wouldn't worry about it. i didn't want to post that bit of news about the i-clicker because i didn't want to get anyone in trouble but if my case manager said it was ok i wouldn't worry about it too much!

Has anyone else encountered a problem with fccj email? I can not access my email through artemis. Everytime I click on the link it just refreshes the page. Is the handbook through that or blackboard? Any suggestions would be appreciated. I emailed tech support but I am waiting on response.

It's funny that you say that because my maiden name starts with "W" and when I do get married it will change to "V". My sister is mad at me for that because we also had a pact to move up the alphabet to at least "M" as well!!

Has anyone else had this problem? I signed up for my classes and I noticed that my times were off on my Health Assessment. It went from Weds 9am-12pm to Weds 6pm-9pm. I called the nursing office and she told me to drop my clesses and re-add them after 4pm because they still want to get all the glitches out. Any other sections have a problem like this? Thanks.

Yeah mine is saying this: "Program objective 2149 required for NUR1022C," on all four of them. I would imagine it's the same with you. They might just not have gotten all the info in yet. She said she has to manually put all our names in. Let me know if it changes. I'd hate to call if something has happened and it will be up later. Let me know if you can register later and I'll do the same. ~Sara
