Has anyone here ever had paramedics wheel a patient in without covering their privates? It's only happened once in my 3 years, and the patient was in full cardiac arrest, so his privates were obviously the paramedics last concern.

I totally agree with this, a patient's modesty is important, but not nearly as important as their life. Sometime's a patient just needs to be naked to be properly assessed and treated (especially in major traumas!)

The fact that he never had any previous occurence of asthma is probably the reason why he had to be in the nude. The medical personal may have decided to do a complete body inspection to check for anything that maybe causing the patient to be SOB. If he was catheterized that's they needed urine to discover what was causing his illness. As for your situation, I can see why you feel you were mistreated. However, the trauma team was not at fault. Where I work, any MVA victim that is rolled in on a spineboard, is made naked, and urine is necessary so if you can't give it yourself a catheter is needed. Usually I would cover a patient after i catheterize them, but sometimes the situation is so critical that modesty is not a high priority. But in your defense, your situation did not seem to be that critical. Nudity is just a part of trauma, sorry that you had to experience it, but I am glad that your fine. Parker

hey i'm parker, just dicovered this forum. Im going into my 3rd year of nursing. I remember the first time i ever did compressions. It was my first week on the job and a really busy day in trauma when a 20 year old female was rolled in after collapsing at work. I ended up being the one pounding on this helpless girl's chest. The first time was so horrific for me because the girl was pretty close to my age, and even looked a bit like me, so i couldn't help but think of myself in that position. Thankfully, we ended up resuscitating the girl, which made my first experience a very positive one.
