  1. does anyone know if the change in credentialing can affect the ability to move out of state? as I understand it, NP credentialing is a state by state basis. So if I get grandfathered in as an adult PMHNP and never let my license lapse, and I want to move to a different state, will my license not be recognized? What are your experiences in changing states?
  2. hi everyone. i was waitlisted. i applied for the adult psych track. congrats to everyone who were accepted =)
  3. i just saw the mailman.. nothing. and i live in RI too .. so probably not today kids. probably tomorrow?
  4. oh my god i am so nervous and antsy.. i barely got anything done today at work.. when oh when??!!
  5. ::raises hand:: .. yeah i only applied to yale. i hate telling people this because it comes off like i'm extremely cocky and confident.. but really its cause they have no prereqs! i didnt take any science classes in college so to fulfill most of the prereqs for nursing programs out there while working a full time job will take me like 9834923y432897 years before i can apply. i think there should be some sort of standardization for prereqs for nursing programs.. i mean people complain that there are not enough nurses, but yet these are all these obstacles to becoming a nurse. so yeah.. im a bundle of nerves these past few days.. i just want to know already! if i dont get in, i plan on applying again next year and i'd have more prereqs under my belt so i'll be applying to other programs too. good luck to everyone!
  6. hey yalienne, from what i am told, if you are to take anatomy, you should take one with a lab in order to be exempt from taking it at yale. hope this helps.
  7. i love providence! i will miss it indeed. I'm doing research on substance use at Butler. it's pretty interesting stuff. what kind of research do you do, suga? new haven's interesting but definitely not as cool or quirky as providence =)
  8. hey I'm currently living in Providence and doing research at Butler! Yay to more Providence people.
  9. annie: i'm actually from CT. we can definitley meet in in new haven! suga: i will be in town on the 21st.. if you're still around, it would be awesome to meet minnesota: i'm not from the midwest but i did go to a small liberal arts school. which i think is good considering how small nursing programs are generally
  10. uclabruin: nice to "meet" you too! =). yale is actually the only program that i applied to cause of the no prereqs thing.. so hopefully this works out! annie: im also doing mental health and will be interviewing on the 22nd. are you flying in the night before? it would be awesome to meet some people prior to interview day. doesn't it seem like a lot of people are from california? thats pretty awesome
  11. hey guys! i got my email yesterday morning. I'll be interviewing on Jan 22. It's nice to see more mental health track applicants! I'm applying to the adult psychiatric program as well... so is there a list of potential interview questions available out there? and would anybody like to meet up the night before? I'm pretty familiar with New Haven if anybody need food/boarding tips =)
  12. ok... so who is nervous/anxious for december?
  13. alright! my application is officially in! it feels damn good. now i just have to wait for recommendations to come in =|
  14. thanks for the info expat. i had the same impression when i visited. the program seems to be very close-knit. as for new haven, well it's an urban city and i think as nurses, we'll get a better training out of an urban environment than say a school in a rural setting. how is everyone's application going? im almost done. finished my essay. it was soo hard to write a cohesive essay while answering all the questions in order! i hope my essay is not too disjointed. anyone sent in their apps yet? good luck! hopefully we'll all get to meet during interview time =)
  15. hey there! i unfortunately haven't started my essay yet. my task today on this lovely fall saturday is to blockade myself and finish the essay.. good luck to all of you
  16. hey guys, i need some advice. im trying to figure out who to ask for an academic recommendation. like i said, i didn't do that well in undergrad so my grades are not that great. i emailed a prof whose class i did decent in and she said that she was hesitant because ive only had 1 class with her. so should an academic reference be from a prof from my major or can it be from anyone? also, i did well in the bio class i took last semester, but it was at a no-name school and i only took 1 class with the teacher. do you think a recommendation from my undergrad which has more name recognition would be better or from this bio teacher? im so on the verge of a meltdown!! ahhhh!! many thanks in advance ps kalsberg: sorry for the late response regarding your gres question. i did a lot of practice exams from any prep book that i could find. instead of buying lots of book, i just went to borders, sat down for many hours and did practice questions from their books. also check out http://www.number2.com which is an online test prep website. also barron's has the ultimate vocab list. i made flash cards of words that i didn't know. for the writing portion, practice brainstorming within the time limit that they give you. i found it hard to write a comprehensive essay within their time limits. try to take your gres on a not very busy day. i took it on a sat morning which sucked because there were so many people and i felt distracted. plus the test center puts people taking different exams in the same room so people were going in and out of the door or asking the proctor questions as i'm trying to read a very complicated passage in the reading comprehension part. i was really annoyed with the test center, but apparently this is commonplace.
  17. I took the GREs last year. I did decently although my undergrad GPA is pretty bad. I have a BA in psych and I've been out of college for 4 years now. Since college, I've worked at a foster care agency, a community mental health agency, and I am currently doing research at a psychiatric hospital. What about you?
  18. hi everyone, i need some honest opinions here. i'm having major anxiety right now applying to NP school. So far, I am only applying to Yale because they don't have prereqs; my plan is to apply to more schools if I don't get in. My goal is to specialize in psychiatric nursing. here's my situation. I didn't do well in undergrad. I went to a prestigious liberal arts school, was academically dismissed for a semester, but managed to graduate with a BA in psych and a gpa of 2.7. I had some difficulties that I was dealing with at the time. Since college, I've worked at a foster care agency, community mental health agency, and I'm currently doign psychiatric research with a well known PI. I've taken 2 classes since post college and my post undergrad GPA is a 3.8. I'm taking an anatomy course this semester, and probably physiology the next. I've also taken the GREs and I got a combined score of 1320 and a 5.0 writing score. As for personal characteristics, I am a refugee and underrepresented minority. Do I have a shot at a direct entry masters with my abysmal undergrad GPA? What can I do to improve my application/candidacy. Am I wasting my time applying just to Yale? Many thanks in advance. :loveya:
  19. hey Lilly, I am too applying to the Yale GEPN program with a specialty in psychiatric nursing. I haven't even started the process yet -- still brainstorming on my essay. It's been pretty hard considering there are 6 questions and a 2 page limit. And also deciding who to ask for recommendations -- Ive been out of school for 5 years now and I doubt my professors in undergrad remember me... My main anxiety is that I didn't do well in undergrad. Since then, Ive been working a lot in the psychiatric field, hoping that my work experience will compensate for the low gpa. What about you? Any concerns?
  20. Hi everyone! this is my first allnurses post... i think its going to be the beginning of many high anxiety posts to come Where are you applying? only to the Yale NP program beccause they have no prereqs =) What is your GPA and/or points for your school of choice? I have a BA in psych and my undergrad GPA is a 2.7 (BOOO!!!).. i went to a pretty competitive undergrad so I hope they take that into consideration... so far my postgrad GPA is 3.85 When is your schools deadline? Nov 1st. I'm aiming to get everything in by Oct When does the acceptance letters go out? Feb I think What is your plan A, B, C...? Apply to more schools after I've completed more prereqs.
