  1. my husband tells me he often wakes up in middle of night and I have fingers on his wrist taking his pulse in my sleep.....I also tend to ask people in social settings when their last bowel movement was if they mention abdominal pain.....
  2. @kimmyRNNJ: I work med-surg non-tele in NH with a similar demographic (lots of nursing home/dementia/ full care with LOTS of comormidities) I work days 7a-7p and max at 5 pts, nights have up to 6 patients, we have 20 beds and ussually have 3 aides ( and have PSA's as needed for 1:1s) . Icannot imagine having 8 patients and less aides, most days I feel like I am out straight with 5.
  3. I recently graduated and got a job on a medical foor, they gave me 12 weeks orientation. I also work per diem at a LTC care facility where I recieved 2 weeks of orientation. Funny thing I feel much more confident at the LTC facility where I recieved less orientation and have way more patients and autonomy. There is just so much to know on a medical floor everyday I have a patient with something I ve never encountered before. Even though I am off orientation now I ask a million questions of my peers ...no one seems to mind... yet:)!
  4. wohooo ..i just found out i passed !!! took NCLEX yesterday so relieved I dont think my stomach could take any longer waiting to find out. congrats
  5. http://assembly.state.ny.us/leg/?bn=A02079 with in 10y of completing an ADN you are required to get a BSN or you will be considered LPN status(NYS only so far)
  6. http://assembly.state.ny.us/leg/?bn=A02079 I believe it passed in 2003, nurses already holding a RN license aren't affected but ADNs after Dec 2003 need a BSN with in 10y or they become LPN status (NY only so far)
  7. Since your applying to all NY schools I assume you live in NY ...so don't bother with the ADN b/c new york state requires all nurses to ahve a BSn w/ in 10 years anyways. I am in an accelerated BSN I highly recommend it alot of work but worth it...
  8. Im currently in ana accelerated BSN program in NH but will most likely be looking for work in the next year in upstate Ny. Any qoutes for syracuse/Rochester/or Buffalo?
  9. I cant imagine a CNA not being able to find work ..every i have worked has been so short handed.(NH) I have noticed when looking for new jobs that sometimes you have to be flexible with the shifts you work. What is your availablity? Some times if you want 1st shift you have to take a 2nd or third shift position and wait untill something opens up on the shift you want. The turn over is so quick though you ussually only have to stick it out on an undesirable shift for a few weeks.Every where i have worked gives priority to people who already employees for first shift. Good luck , dont regret your choice of career nurses are always needed You will find something. Your life experience is very valuble and any facility would be luck to have you fellow Nursing Assistant (and RN in progress)
  10. If you viewed being an Aide as "an ass wiper" than you probably werent a great aide. CNAs are so much more than that. I work in a nursing home and aides are these people's families. The good aides are the most caring and selfless people. I am personally offended by being refered to as anything less/ I am proud to have had the experiences as a LNAit has been so much more than wiping Ass:(
  11. P.S> Work per diem at a nursing home they actually pay very well ($20 plus for 2nd and 3rd shifts) depending on wwhere you live I guess
  12. I have been an aide for two years. I am starting an accelerated BSN program this fall. I think being an aide is a very positive experience. I truelly believe i will be a better nurse for it. I have gotten nothing but support from LPNs RNS(BSN and ADN). It is important for nurses to recognize all that aides do when i am a NUrse I KNOW i will never take aides for granted!
  13. I have lived in Plymouth for 2 years but i am moving down to Manchester in august. (originally from NY)
  14. HI! Im starting the Accelerated BSN at MCPHS -MAnchester this fall!!!! Congratulations to everyone else. Very excited I cant wait:)
