  1. A patient had an NG tube with tube feeding that was clogged, I went to flush the NG tube with NS and I was unable to de-clog it and in the process some of the NS sprayed out of the tube and hit me on the face, right below my nose and my upper lip. (I am not 100% sure if it hit my upper lip as well). I think that since I was not able to flush the tube that all I got hit on the face with was normal saline? I washed my face afterwards and I understand hep C is transferred via blood but I would like to know what my chances are of contracting hep C this way. The patient does have hep C.
  2. Hi, so just to verify, you only need to take the NCLEX once? And if you pass you can work in all 50 states without ever taking it again?
  3. Hi, yes I am a US graduate and I have a BSN. Is there a map where I can see which states require me to retake the boards if I already have a license from MI? Thank you.
  4. Hello, I have been a RN in the state of Michigan for five years and I am thinking of relocating to Hawaii. Does anyone know where I can find information if I need to retake the boards in either state? I've been on vacation to both places and I much prefer it over the long winters here in MI. Does anyone know what the job market is like in San Francisco or Oahu? Thank you.

  6. I'm interested in joining a nursing organization but have no idea which one to join (just look at how many are in this link) http://www.nurse.org/orgs.shtml I'm currently working on a medical cardiology unit and I'm going to school for NP (primary care). Which ones are of the best or top organizations to join?
  7. I graduated a couple months ago and have been looking for a job since I passed the NCLEX. I finally received a job offer and I start next week. I'll be working on the medical cardiology floor. The person who interviewed me told me that this is a very hard floor to work on, but it's also very rewarding in that I will be able to work anywhere I want to after working here. My question is - any advice, tips? I'm thinking about buying some cardiology software from skyscape for my ipod. The Washington Manual® Cardiology Subspecialty Consult http://www.skyscape.com/estore/ProductDetail.aspx?ProductId=2510 Are there any books that are recommended that I read?
  8. bump, which hospital was this at?
  9. Laney, I'm in MI also. Can you please contact me with information on which hospitals have the nurse extern program? I contacted Henry Ford Hospital and applied for nurse extern but they told me I can't be in it because I am a nurse already.
  10. I am a new graduate and can't get a job because 100% of the jobs require that I have 1-2 years of experience. How am I supposed to get experience if no one will hire me? I have bills to pay and I am losing money each month getting further and further in debt. Each month not working adds up. I'm watching CNN right now and they just said RNs will be the fastest growing job market in the next coming up years? Are they kidding? CNN also said the unemployment rate for people with bachelors is 4.7%?
  11. So I had a job interview on the 20th, which was a Friday. The person giving me the interview told me that I will hear from HR "early next week". Well, I never did and today is the 1st. Should I call them? What do I say? This was my first interview since graduating. I have been applying for 100+ of jobs online and this hospital called me on Thursday and asked me to come in next day. So I did not have a lot of time to prepare but I do think that it went well with the interviewer.
  12. I have a couple questions. These are very basic questions but I need some opinions. 1) When asked for 3 references, can I put down my clinical instructors? Am I supposed to tell the clinical instructors that I will be putting them down or ask for the permission? 2) Does human resources actually call your previous employer? If so, what do they usually ask? I ask this because I worked for three years at a nursing home that was as you say on here very "toxic" but I needed the money for school. I hated everyday of work but I stuck with it. I had a falling out and now I'm scared that my previous boss/supervisor might be bad mouthing me if HR calls them. While working at the nursing home I would put applications to different hospitals and my supervisor would make small comments letting me know that so-and-so hospital called them to inquire about me, which leads me to believe that HR does call. But what do they ask?
  13. My dream is to find a job as a new graduate nurse. I'm afraid I'll lose all of my skills if I don't get a job soon.
  14. Thank you for your response. Is a LTC the same thing as a skilled nursing facility? I read on here that hospitals don't care if you have worked in a LTC, it has to be a skilled nursing facility. How exactly does a SNF differ from a LTC?
  15. I recently graduated and passed the NCLEX. I live in Michigan and since there are no jobs here because all of the auto workers who got laid off have their wifes go back to work as nurses and every hospital wants a nurse with at least one year's experience and every hospital is hiring from within, nurse techs and aides who just passed the NCLEX , I would like to know if I can legally work as a nursing assistant/aide while having an RN license.
  16. I just passed the NCLEX and got my license a couple days ago. It expires in 5 months, is this normal? How do I renew it?
  17. I'm a new grad in oakland county, MI. Which hospitals in the area are hiring? I looked at several large hospitals' websites and they are only hiring for part time/contigent AND you need 2-3 years of experience, no new grads! Any advice for a new grad?
  18. If you let them fire you you can apply for unemployment benefits. If you quit you won't be able to. Get fired and than go on a long needed 6+ month vacation. You don't have to list your current employer on the next job application.
  19. You don't need to buy any magazines, get all the info. you need for free online.
  20. From my experience most aids are lazy and jealous of RNs, it's even worse in nursing homes. My advice would be to go work somewhere where there are less aids, such as in the OR, etc. Good luck to you.
  21. Basically you'll be working as a glorified waitress.
  22. good luck but you might have failed!! A lot of people freak out when it shuts off at 75!
  23. Wow, this is a very touchy subject. On the one hand I feel for you but on the other I think there might be certain disorders that people have that perhaps aren't best suited for nursing. What I mean is, if a person has ADD and is a realtor (for example) and they make a mistake it's probably not a big deal. On the other hand, a nurse with ADD might kill a person.
  24. How many hours are 30 CEU? It sounds like this is just another way for the state to get some extra
  25. How the heck do PAs make twice as much as RNs??? http://swz.salary.com/salarywizard/layouthtmls/swzl_compresult_national_HC07000009.html
