New grad RN relocating to NC
Thank you! I'm ready to get in there and get some experience! Also look at Rex, they just opened up several New Grad Positions. I know that Cape Fear is hiring new grads but has a pretty extensive process (with references and transcripts) so if you are out of state...get on it pretty quick (think the deadline is the end of the month). I know how long it took my school in AZ to get stuff out here!

New grad RN relocating to NC
They told me they were making the decision early this next week for the position I was interviewing for. I actually had an interview on Thursday at UNC for the NICU and was offered a position before I left. I start orientation on the 17th and am super excited!

You'll do great! Do you know what floor? If it's the third it may be a peer interview. So if you have questions you'd want to ask fellow nurses, have them prepared...not much time with the nurse manager. Good luck!

New grad RN relocating to NC
Thank you! I just interviewed at Johnston Health in Smithfield this morning. It was a different interview. The manager didn't ask any questions but instead put me in the breakroom with two other nurses who answered any questions I had. Not used to that kind of interview for sure. I have another interview at UNC (Chapel Hill) on Thursday. I've interviewed for three other positions there but they hired someone "who already had experience" in that area. Fortunately the nurse recruiter liked me cause she keeps getting me more interviews. I'm really hoping that this one will be the one that finally works out. Good luck to you! I hope it doesn't take long to find something. I recently put in 'new grad RN' in NC on Indeed.com and have begun to look farther out. I know they have some new grad positions at Pitt County Hospital which is about 1 1/2 hours from me I think. At this point I'll do anything for a year's experience. :)

Have you not had any experience since you graduated in 2009? I graduated in March of this year and moved to NC from AZ. It's been 6 months right now of looking, a few interviews and still nothing. The major hospitals offer New Grad positions every now and then, but the fact that they also have their own nursing programs...and the students doing clinicals there making the connections...I'm finding that it's hard getting in. Of course it doesn't mean it can't happen, but you really have to stick out during the interview. Have two more interviews this week...hopefully one will come through for me! Good luck to you.

I think they went well...but it's really hard to say. It was a long day and by the last one I had a hard time thinking of situations to answer the questions. Now I wait...hopefully not too long though!

Thank you! My preceptorship was on a Med/Oncology floor. I was mainly on the Onc floor during pediatrics also... So no real experience in the actual units interviewing for.

UNC New Grad Program
I have an interview in both the PICU and the 6 Womens (GYN/ONC). I graduated from a BSN program in March in Phoenix. We relocated out here in January and I had to go back and forth for two months to finish up Capstone. Haven't had much luck with any of the hospitals thus far, but hoping that one of these will work out for me!

Anyone out there get a call for an interview for UNC's New Grad program for the Fall. I interview on Tuesday and am both excited and nervous!

The campus will not be officially accredited until they have a couple of classes actually finish the program. They want to make sure that the students are being taught the material in order to pass the NCLEX. This is why the Phoenix campus is still provisional, but should be changing considering they've had two graduating classes and 100% pass rates on the boards.

Because you can only take one nursing/clinical class at a time it will take you 2 years. You'll just have more time to focus on the nursing classes instead of having the pre-reqs to worry about. Make sure that you still qualify for financial aid since that would put you part time for most if not all of the semesters because this school is not cheap. :)

The odds of all four of them passing is still pretty good...I'm not understanding if you are discounting that. The fact that they ALL made it through a new program where there are others failing is pretty darn amazing! Oh and the next class has more like 25-30. :)

Sorry it has taken so long to respond...busy, busy with school! It's going really well. Finished and aced Critical Care so can't complain...know that it can be done! I'm looking forward to graduating in February too! I know that there were a lot of people that were waiting to see what happened when the first class graduated, well they did and the school now has a 100% pass rate on the NCLEX. And hospitals actually have had great experiences with the students so far. It is expensive and the professors can't cram everything in to your head, you obviously have to be willing to work for it...but it CAN be done! I took a nutrition class at a community college several years before and they took it. The one that they offer is 4 credits and mine was only 3 so not sure if it really matters. I'd call an adviser because I know they have changed a few things since I started. I'm actually taking an online Econ class right now and it is the Principles of Economics which combines Micro and Macro, so you might need to find one that combines both. I would definitely take all the non-nursing classes before but remember that you may not qualify for as much financial aid...make sure you take that in to account...especially since it is so pricey! Let me know if you have any other questions!

For anyone still considering or waivering because they weren't sure about the pass rates for Chamberlain...they had their first class graduate in July and the school has a 100% pass rate on the NCLEX!

Are you having to retake any Science or Math classes? Those are the ones that they make you retake if they are over 10 years.
