New graduate nurse from US
I want to just work in Sydney mostly. I was looking up new graduate programs in the Sydney area and they are all 12 months so I'd have to apply for a sponsorship from the hospital and go under a temporary business stay visa since the working holiday visa only allows you to work with one employer for up to 6 months. I'm just wondering, but does anyone know how often new grads from overseas are offered positions in these programs? Since I would have to find a program with an intake date mid-year do you think I'd have a better chance of gaining a spot since most Australian new grads start in Jan?

New graduate nurse from US
Hi all, I will be graduating with my BSN next May (2010) and am wondering if it's possible to work in Australia as a new graduate nurse from the US. I would like to go for a year on a working holiday visa and would like to go as soon as I get my RN license. Thanks in advance for any info! Cheers!

Megan, didn't you get into Columbia too? Were you going to go to visiting day this weekend? Congrats on your acceptances and good luck with the fellowship!

Was anyone else waitlisted besides me?

I applied for the peds acute care program. Columbia only has a peds primary care track so I might switch to the acute care np and try and specialize in peds. I'm going to NY for Columbia's visiting day and I'm so excited! I haven't been to nyc in a couple years and I get to meet up with a friend I haven't seen in a while so I'm happy about that. I'm sure I'll love wherever I end up, but I guess I just wanted somewhat of a choice. Columbia's an amazing school and I'm so blessed to have been given the opportunity to attend. Lauralou, have you decided on where you'll be attending? Are you going to any visiting/admit days? I did remember to mail back the financial aid, but I don't know if it got there by Monday.

I got a response back from Andrea about the waitlist. She said that since applicants have until May 1st to accept or decline their decision it's hard to predict if people on the waitlist will hear back before then. They start accepting people off the waitlist once the class falls below 110 and that we'll be notified either way by August 1st. I was really hoping to hear back earlier since by August 1st, I'll have already complete 2 months at Columbia. I guess Emory just isn't in the cards for me

Jalin, I got my letter last night. My mailman was being evil and didn't deliver the mail til practically 7pm. Good luck to you! Hopefully you'll get your acceptance letter in the mail today. I'm still hopeful b/c from reading some past threads it seems that they take quite a few off the waitlist. Lauralou, I hope it goes well when you speak with Emory today. Let us know how it goes.

That's so true, i totally forgot about that! I mean what if they let someone in the BSN and after they interview them for the MSN decide they're not qualified then? Then would you be stuck with just a BSN even though you got in for both? That's so odd. So is Emory out of the picture for you then? If it's where you really feel you belong then I'm sure you'll find a way. Can you appeal the decision for the segue? I hope it works out for you!

Oh my letter doesn't even mention the MSN even though I applied for the segue program. It just says I'm waitlisted for the BSN so if I get off the waitlist I don't know if that means I'll get into the segue or just the BSN as a 2nd degree...

Lauralou, I'm so sorry to hear you didn't get the program of choice, but at least they're offering you a spot in the BSN class. You would have to go thru that part the same way if you were a segue student over a 2nd degree student anyway and you can always apply to just the master's portion while you're completing the MSN. What track did you apply for? You've been accepted to a handful of the best uni's in the states and should be proud of your accomplishments so far! I really wanted to get news of an acceptance today, but I've just been waitlisted. I guess it looks like I'll have to accept at Columbia since their deadline to accept is before I'll find out about the waitlist for Penn or Emory. Emory was one of my top choices and I'm a little bummed that I can't celebrate an acceptance, but maybe I just have to be patient and wait a little longer. Anyway, congrats Lauralou! Getting a spot in the BSN class is still an amazing feat!

Ok I just got my award from Oscar. I got the usual nursing scholarship of 33K and I got 5500 in federal stafford loans and 73k for a federal parent plus loan since i'm still considered a dependent. The deadline on mine is the 23rd. 100k does seem mighty pricey just for the first year...
-
Columbia University-ETP
Oh great, the deadline is next week and I haven't even gotten it yet. Doggiedad, I haven't gotten anything at all from Columbia either. Jose said that they weren't mailing any letters and that we could print the one online, but did anyone get anything on housing?
-
Columbia University-ETP
I STILL haven't gotten my financial aid package. I called Oscar twice this morning and no answer and I emailed him a couple days ago and no response. Am I the only one who hasn't gotten it yet? When does it say the deadline is to accept your award?
-

I haven't gotten mine yet either. I haven't even gotten my official letter in the mail. I hope I'm still accepted haha.
