  1. I am going through the same thing. They fired me for not hanging an IV bag. No other discipline issues before this. They just wanted to get rid of a 50 yr old RN (Me) for 3 LPN's in 20's/30's making less money then I was. So glad they stand by their nurses. Yes it was LTC (very unprofessional place) the nurses that are still there are the fools. I feel it more of honor "not" to be there. But I still have to deal with the aftermath. The big "T" (temination) on my applications. Looks really good... how do you explain without badmouthing the place. Its such a sticky situation. I have spent hours writing about the situation. The first place I wanted to work asks on ap. Were you ever terminated?et. please explain on another sheet of paper. Needless to say Im procrastinating because Im afraid of being rejected from the jobs I really want to get. Makes me so mad. And this was my first nursing job. My husband told me not to go in to nursing...do something fun. I guess I should have stuck with hotel management or better yet maybe a nun??
  2. Thanks for your response and encouraging words. I am an RN and the medication was actually NSS. The bag was to be continuous & changed on each shift. Supposedly the person went to the hospital and their trying to say it was because the bag wasnt hung? Im not sure when the resident went to hosp. but I think it was a few days later and she did return to facility after a day or 2 in the hospital. The pt was a post CABG who was having some abnormal labs. The DON also mentioned 2 other incidents. 1. was a bowel prep wasnt done on a res. (which I never got this in report and the other nurse that neglected to tell me this was only written up -I got terminated) and also they said I didnt give oxygen to a lady w O2 sat @80% which is not true. I started a standing order for supp. 02 and her sats came up to >90%. They said I didnt chart this but I specifically remember charting. Since I was suspended before termination I was unable to go back to facility to look @ charts and circumstances around termination..I just had to take their word for it. It so not fair and 1 sided. I just feel full of despair because I was unable to defend myself and Im sure there has been defamation of my character because the other employees knew what was going on before I did.
  3. In Illinois they have to either let you look @ file or make you copies (which they can charge you for et. has to be a reasonable fee)they have 7 days to do this. If they do not comply after another 7 days you can contact The Dept of Labor. I have to find out about right to look at other documents contained within the facility. Thanks for your response!
  4. ...Thats the thanks (and respect ) I get for 2 yrs of hard work and dedication. No write ups prior to warning just suspended for not hanging an IV bag of saline. Then when the pt went to the hosp (from LTC) not sure but I think it was 2 days after not receiving IV bag (was supposed to be changed each shift) they called to fire me insinuating I was the reason they went to hospital. BULL. Then I was given 2 other bogus reasons (which I can back up -are incorrect) Has anyone ever come accross this? I want to view my employee file (which we are entitled to under IL law) we can also look @ any paperwork surrounding termination. But not sure if that includes medical records, MAR, daily log Communication sheet etc. We can also make addenums to personal file if we dispute allegations. I want to find out when pt. went to hospital. Also she said I didnt chart something which I specifically remember charting. But it was on a chart where the pt came back from the hospital and no-one even charted her return. I wonder if they charted her readdmission then got rid of the page I charted. I just have alot of unanswered questions and am concerned about my reputation. Does anyone have experience with this type of situation? I know what the real reason was. New younger LPN's replaced me making less money. Signed Mad:angryfire and Glad :chuckle(not to be there anymore)
  5. What should I write on the resignation. She accused me of a few things that werent true and I can back them up. I would really like to look at my employee file and some other relevant paperwork.??Help/Hurry.I was going to go to the unemployment office this am. If I send a letter of resignation I wonder if I can still say I was fired.
  6. Thanks i really feel better that I no longer work there. It was almost an embarassment (to say I worked there or when family members would come in). The way resident care has declined because their so short staffed and do not want to spend money for supplies. Even the residents are aware and make comments about the short staff. Their firing good cna's and nurses. God did me a favor I guess.
  7. Thanks for the encouraging words.. its nice to know there are still nice, caring people et.nurses left in the world. Cause all I've seen lately are cold heartless woman that are in this profession for only a job/$$$ and to take good people down...to make themselves feel better.
  8. well its too late for that I talked to the DON on the phone and she terminated me gave me a few other bogus reasons. I asked for a warning told her I would go to a different shift but in the end she/they had made up their minds. I am tempted to call the administrator to ask to resign but I dont know what good that will do..either way they probably wont give me a favorable reference. signed down but not out !thanks for your concern:heartbeat
  9. Im in the same position except I got suspended for not hanging an IV bag. The resident went to the hosp (a few days later) but has since returned to the facility. I received no prior warning and had no prev offense. Today my suspension is over I have to go to work and find out my fate. I have been told by co workers I was fired. (not told this by DON yet) I am nervous and woke up this am sick to my stomach. This is what I get for bending over backwards for this LTC facility, working OT when needed, always working short staffed, being charge nurse, taking no breaks often this list goes on. See my other postings under the heading Termination. thanks and good luck. I have talked to the state, lawyers, the unemployment office you name it. I may have more info if you need it. :redbeathe
  10. im not sure what you mean by constructive d/c ruling? From who? and what does IOW stand for? I have a meeting today to probably ge fired. Should I have my resignation letter in hand to give to them? Im so nervous.
  11. thanks!:heartbeat
  12. thanks for the response yes it would have been nice to get a warning first unstead of a written warning with a threat "if this happens again you will be terminated"
  13. Im not sure what OP means either. maybe opressed?
  14. Thanks you are probably right!
  15. I didnt hang an IV bag schedule on MAR for 11-7 shift. I think the res. was sent to the hospital a few days later so I think they are going to blame me for that. Either way I shouldnt have signed the suspension or I should have at least made comments in the area where it said employee comments or I should have gone to look at the MAR to see exactly what it read. We usually dont even have IVs this was my first offense it should have been a verbal. This discipline stuff is all new to me and Im learning the hard way. But either way it proves they just wanted to get rid of me. I have a meeting today to determine my fate. Wish me luck. thanks sue:clown:
