Awesome advice!!!! I too am coming up on my first year, but im on a cardiac step-down unit (5:1) and I love it. However, ive been turned on to ICU recently. Funny considering ICU used to terrify me. I did med-surg for years as a CNA. So I avoided it like a plague. There are so many other fields! Stick it out and you'll find your home!!

It is on our name tags. Most of the ADNs are in school for a BSN, myself included. But most of us don't care. Tbh, the LPNs where I work have been there forever and some of us have no issues asking their advice/opinions.

Just a little disclaimer, a person can still die while a pacemaker is active. I have looked up many a time and seen only pacer spikes only to be coding seconds later. Just for those who may not know. I believe you did right as well. To me, it's about the patient. If he expressed his readiness to go and was in his right mind, let him go. Bravo to you! I know that had to be hard.

I see. I had not thought if it that way. Thank you for clarifying!! That's the kind of abuse that tax payers DON'T want to pay for, nor do I. I had heard a rumor that if things head that way, physicians would leave their practices, as would I. I would hope physicians would fight such a concept. Do you think nursing would shift from majority bedside care to more claims and insurance?

What does a 5000 tax return have to do with what physicians get paid? I'm not seeing a correlation.The first few posts clarify a lot. There are still a lot of unanswered questions related to these changes. No one can answer as to how a certain career field will be affected because no one knows. There are too many variables to make a prediction. Stay involved in your community and you'll find out.

Please don't generalize the "55%" that don't pay taxes. No one knows every story. I haven't worked in 2 years because I'm a single mother and I was in college through a program that assists us in getting our degree. (Family Scholar House, look it up). I am now a registerd nurse working at a large hospital in my community. Im pursuing a BSN (which the hospital is helping pay for) and I pay taxes AND have health insurance now. Bam! Out of the 55%! Of course there will be loopholes. Like any other system (welfare for example, which im saying goodbye to) there is the potential for abuse. I think there are other ways to fix some of these issues. I am choosing to keep an open mind and although I an a nurse, my second passion is the fight to end poverty. A fight that will aid in bringing our country back to where we want it. The more people we can get into the professional world, the lesser the strain on our money, yes? We're not all "dead-beats." Excuse me while I dive off my soapbox! =)

Good morning everyone! I have been reading the forums here for a week or so and everyone seems so nice! Which is good, because my questions are kind of silly.:imbar Anyway, I'll introduce myself as I'm new to this site as well... I have been living in Kentucky (Brandenburg) for about a year now. I am a single mother of 2 gorgeous children (5 and 3) and my current job isn't cutting it right now. I have some general college credits (about 2 years worth as well as some military experience) that may be transferable and would like to start nursing school in Fall of 2009 hopefully (upon acceptance of course). I have been researching nursing for about 6 months (I'm a little picky ) but I have decided it's what I want to do. I checked with the schools, asked around, spoke to some friends, spoke to advisors, but I figured this was a good place to end my research, and I have some questions for you all. 1. I have decided to go ahead and go to school to become an RN as opposed to an LPN. Is this the way to go and why? 2. I am planning on taking this summer, fall, and spring to do prereqs for nursing at JCC in Louisville as it is where I wanted to do my schooling. However, I am getting mixed signals on what kind of school JCC is and if their program is as good as they say it is. I've also looked at Spencerian(looks like they only have an LPN-RN bridge program), Elizabethtown (KCTS just like JCC but a little closer). Opinions? 3. Financial Aid scares me lol. But I'll definetly need it, are there any other options aside from loans, scholarships and grants that I may not be aware of? 4. Anything else I might be needing to do before I go to school that pertains to nursing i.e. other certifications or just something you might recommend? 5. Any other advice for making things go more smoothly? 6. And last but not least, pros and cons of being a nurse? People always tell me it's a thankless career field that requires compassion, hard work and dedication. What a perfect fit! What do you think about it? As stated before, I have done a lot of research on nursing and nursing school, and have talked to everyone with the exception of some real nurses. Just want to secure a future for my little ones as well as do something challenging that makes me happy. I thank you all in advance and wish you all the best in what you do! P.S.
