Continuing with UofA or go to Grant MacEwan?
Hi there, I currently go to GMAC Nursing and although I do not have a prior degree and I can tell you a few things about the program. For entry you need at 80 average, again I don't know about degree transfers, however I do know that if you have the marks, it's first come, first serve. It doesn't matter if you have a 90% average, if the person with an 80% applied before you, they get in first. The trick is to apply the minute(literally) registrations open and you have pretty good chance. You're probably too late for the fall, but you may want to try for January. I really like the program so far, I'm in my second year with clinicals coming up in Sept. and I hope I do GMAC's reputation proud. The best information you can get is to make an appointment with the student advisor. She'll be able to look at all your courses and give you the best route to take. PM me if you want and I can give the SA name. Good luck!

How's the job prospective? I heard there is a hiring freeze
Yup, here in Alberta, I can't wait for an election. Although I'm not sure that people will remember everything that happens with this government, the gag orders (non-transparency), closure of beds at ALberta Hospital, triage tent at the Stollery, even creating the AHS, nobody knew it was coming until it happened. But I won't forget, I ordered up my posters from the Friends of Medicare website. I've been telling everyone I know, if you don't like whats happening, write a letter to the newwpaper and make your voice heard! Im a student, so no gag order for me yet!

Discharging a patient...to the streets
I heard one story where somebody gave a homeless person a gift card to a restaurant or fast food place. I thought that was a great idea!

Thanks for your replies! I will have to keep looking, if nothing comes up, well then, I'll just have to add the student loans to the pile!

ideas to pay for school
Hello everyone, I have been lurking for a while and am finally ready to jump in! I have been accepted to the Grant Macewan Bscn program commencing January 09 and now have to figure out how to pay for it:eek:. Hubby and I are part owners in a company, which unfortunatley has sucked us dry. We already have a big debt load because of this, but I realized I will have to go more in debt ( student loan) for school and I know it will be worth it. I was just wondering if any one in Alberta knew of any monetary incentives for new students entering this program? I will be applying for as many grants or bursaries as I can from the government and the school, but if anyone else has any other ideas I would sure appreciate it. Are there any incentives from hospitals or the health regions for examples? Thanks in advance for any advice! This is a great site!
