Elk Park you should get paid for your googling skills! Do you mind providing what you're searching for because I can't replicate that except by looking up King Khaled itself. And though that's some good information, it doesn't really answer the question yet because what I understood from Helen Ziegler is that currently MD anesthesiologists alone provide anesthesia care in the standard hospital setting, which this is not (Opthalmic hospital). And I know they hire CRNAs from time to time as I have come across the random ad too, but I am trying to see if they are beginning to be incorporated into the standard system at least somewhere in the Kingdom. I know you said you have no idea but just in case someone does. Thanks

Hello to all, It is possible to work in the KSA as a CRNA (nurse anesthetist)? Please someone who knows provide whatever details you have I really would appreciate it. I will be graduating from the US and want to live in KSA preferably or nearby (Emirates/Kuwait) and was planning on working in the US for part of the year but I would really prefer to work there. I appreciate your advice. I am considering volunteering when off from work also. Maybe that is a better way to keep up the skills. Hopefully the situation with CRNAs not really being employed in place of MD Anesthesiologists changes outside the US.

I know you are speaking from your experience, which from the many posts I have read from you is quite a bit! I do want to find a way to do it. As much as being a CRNA is important to me, there is another part of my life that is important to me and that requires my being where the job is not possible. So I have to find a way to do both. While it's a quite a ways off still, I am moving along pretty well so far, and so I am just thinking about when I realize the goal how I will do it. Firstly, I am aware that locum is only after getting some very solid experience. Secondly, I will do what it takes for me to remain fresh in my skills. Such as putting together reviews, etc. for myself. So do you think that it will work? I feel very confident about being able to do it. And locum jobs are going to expect you to be unfamiliar with their particular layout and technology etc. so coming back on the scene will be a little buffered by that. That was a very interesting comment - that about 100 decisions are made during a routine induction. But once you have the expertise, don't you retain that capability for at least months if not more?

I am asking this as I am hoping to eventually work locum and take extended time off in between assignments. Maybe only working one or two assignments a year that are a few months each. Has anyone - locum or not - taken 6mos or more off and had repercussions when re-entering the job market? Were you asked why you took the time off etc? Do you think a year or more off would be the same? Thanks a million for any info on this.

Personally, I am preparing to tough it out without loans. I just made arrangements to move to a house a friend owns since he will accomodate me when that time comes. I explained it to him and he is into it - and I will make sure I make it worth his while when the anesthesia bucks come in (and happily). Put your mind to it and don't defeat yourself. I don't believe in paying interest and so it is a necessity to me to do it this way and I am sure that it will be very feasible.

How many schools does PA have? Michigan has 5, so I was wondering how many more were in PA?

I haven't gotten in the program but am hoping to start Winter '10. I plan on working through the first semester but I thought it would be a breeze looking at the course descriptions for NSG 120 and 122 and the - what is it - 8 hrs clinical a week. Is it really much harder to be working while in school? And do you get into Med Surg in the first semester? Thanks

Well what I mean by a lot more is more than just three classes, and they will often pay for your books too. At HFCC where I study it is not done online but in person (the application).

This is a personal sale of books from someone who is already a nurse. I have Pharmacology now but the book is terrible, and also want to have some familiarity with the material before starting the classes so I will probably be buying a few textbooks. Why specifically do you recommend the Silvestri prep book, is it better than the Saunders or Mosby's in your view? Thanks

Katie, do you mind giving her full name? I also found the staff at WSU to be very nice (though I am comparing with EMU not OU on that one). I met with Dr Grace and she answered all my concerns. The EMU lady in charge of students' affairs was very, very hard to get any information out of and made my mind up for me right away.

Doing three instead of two without working is about 7 times harder I would say. Personally, that is my only problem. But it is a big worry. I don't expect to be done by 2015 so I might just get stuck doing three. I can only hope not. Going back to get the DPN or whatever is fine, but two years of straight studying is very unique to CRNAs and I don't know of any other Masters requiring you not to work, so I hope they take that into consideration. I also heard it might take well into 2025 or so according to another agency.

Pebbels, If you go to the financial aid office or wherever they handle special scholarships for single parents etc, there is a program called the Perkins Grant (not loan) which will pay for 3 pre-nursing classes if you are an underrepresented male (as you are if you are going into nursing) for any field in which males are less than 25% of the workforce. They will pay for a lot more when you are in the program. Take care

Something else for you to know Sadie is that OU has a unique grading scale. Whereas at most schools an A = 4.0, at OU in their nursing program specifically, an A = anywhere from 3.6 to 4.0 and you need to have a 100% to get a 4.0.
