Argh! I can't figure out how to pm here. I'm sure it's just right in front of me, but I'm missing it. I have some general questions that I hope a Holmes student can answer. I have a question about NURS 1119 (Nursing I.) The lab meets two days a week from 8-3. That's clinicals, right? (Sorry, I have a BA and am finishing my Masters degree both in History, so I'm learning the nursing lingo.) Do you start going on those two days from 8-3 the first week or will that start within the first few weeks of school? Do you stay the full time? Are you required to go more than Tues-Fri class times? It sounds like I'm trying to get out of class, lol... But I'm going to be commuting from Memphis to Grenada and I'm just trying to get myself organized. At Grenada - are all the clinicals conducted at the Grenada Lake medical center? Also - what all did you need to purchase for the first semester? Thanks everyone for any help you can give me!

I'm about to start nursing school next month, but I can give you info on the area. The only sections of Memphis you would want to live in are East Memphis or Midtown. And even then there are still bad parts of those areas. I am a single mom with an 18 month old son and I feel safe as can be in midtown. Most of the hospitals are downtown. In midtown you are about a 10 minute drive from them. I grew up in Collierville (about a mile from Fayette county) and the drive from there to downtown takes about 45-50 minutes. As far as suburbs go: North MS - these towns are growing fast fast fast and all I really know is that the traffic is horrible and crime seems to be low. TN suburbs: Millington is fairly close to the downtown area and it is more "country" than the other towns. Cordova - horrible traffic and the crime rate is growing. Cordova high school is now part of the City school system, I don't know about the elementary schools. Collierville and Germantown - each are becoming more and more expensive to live in due mainly to people leaving Memphis. There are more communities growing in the Northern part of the county, Arlington, for example. I don't know much about them. AR suburbs: Many people forget about Arkansas suburbs. Way more of a rural atmosphere than across the river, but it's a short drive to downtown. West Memphis - Gone downhill Marion - I've actually seen nice, huge, and affordable homes here. It's a quickly growing community. Schools - The county that Memphis is in (Shelby) has two public school districts; Memphis city schools are one district and the schools in the suburbs make up the other district. As long as I'm still breathing, my son will never attend a Memphis city school. If you choose to live in the city go to a private school. No problems with the county school system. Hope this helps.

Hi everyone! I'm new here and this is my first post. I was accepted to Holmes at the Grenada campus. Does anyone else go there? I know very little about the school or the area, so any comments would be appreciated. I live in Memphis right now.
