  1. I have a question for everyone.. A butterfly is insitu on a patient's abdomen. After administering 0.25mls of morphine (4mg), it's quite obvious there are morphine solution left in the tube. So question, do you flush with water for injection or do you flush with sodium chloride? and if so, how much would you flush it done with? All responses appreciated. Cheers
  2. sorry..had to rephorifice my question... I was wondering if bruising could occur on another site of the arm rather than the V.P site ?
  3. hi , can i ask, i had a venipuncture done on my left cub.fossa (had a vaccutainer in, blood taking) last friday, it felt sore the next day (normal). But a bruise started appearing in the mid of my forearm on monday. Is this normal? I have attached a photo for reference.
  4. When i 1st started - it felt weird. (the stench seems to be a whole lot stronger wiping another person's bottom! vs my own ) Getting used to it - i wear a face mask when i can when wiping them. It helps to prevent the full works of the stench getting up your nasal passage and also prevents the person from looking at your expression.
  5. Look out for ads in the papers & the internet. In Australia, when a nursing job is advertised, they would add on additional details like " Night shift Registered Nurses needed on Part Time or Casual basis". Hope there's something like this in your country
  6. Hello, Can contributors here please explain the uses of the normal saline for inj and water for inj? 1) Which one do you use to flush a s/c or iv line? 2) Which one do you use to dilute anti biotics? 3) Which one do you use to flush a IDC? I am confused. Some nurses use n/s for inj to flush a s/c butterfly, whereelse some nurses use water for inj to flush it... Also , a nurse from a country uses n/s for inj to dilute medications, whereelse nurses in another country uses water for inj to dilute medications. Help!
  7. hi there, i work in a geriatric facility and was wondering how long could a subQ butterfly used for before they are changed? especially for palliative care patients who are on morphine. thanks!
  8. hello, How much normal saline would you use to flush the line withafter adminstering 0.5ml-1ml of morphine sulphate via s/c butterfly? And i can only assume that the reason to flush after adminstering morphine is to keep the lines patent. thanks!
  9. hi there, thanks for that. Another question, how much solution would you instill into the catheter? and it's N/S isnt it?
  10. the morphines are in ampoules, do you still draw them up and dilute it? with n/s or water for inj and how much?
  11. hi pp, we are using the diluted morphine 10mg/ml ampoules. When i tried to adminster it via the sub q butterfly catheter, the patient move abit, and went " oh". And i asked if it hurts, she said "abit". What can you attribute this to? When i adminsterd n/s into it, she's ok.
  12. Could you kindly please elaborate on this?
  13. Question: Why does a patient feel abit of a pain sensation when morphine is adminstered via a butterfly catheter ? What could be wrong ?
  14. hi there, can someone please offer some guidance.. Question 1) With a 2 way foley urinary catheter, how do you flush the catheter to prevent clots ? Question 2) I have encountered a 2 way catheter, 1 limb is for the balloon/air, and the other limb connects to the urinary bag. If i am going to flush the catheter, should i connect the syringe to the rubber part of the limb, or how?
