How do you wonderful nurses do it?
Hey everyone I been on this site for a few months now. I am not a nurse or even a nursing student or not even doing prereqs. But am hoping to start within the next year. Well that's not the point. I come on the site every single day it is SO GREAT here. I love it. Well back to the point I have read a lot of threads on here. And I start wondering how on earth do you guys do it. I am talking about learning all the kinds of medications dosages conversion. How do you learn and remember all the different kinds of diseases treatments for them how much how long. I am terrified of this how am I suppose to learn and/or remember all these things. Does it mean I shouldn't be a nurse? Will I be imcompetent? This is something I truly want I think about it every day. I see myself going to school graduating working in a hospital. I have so much plans for my future and career but I see having a good memory is essential. So how do you do it when it comes to memorizing things? How do you remember it all the medication to the disease and all that stuff. I had more question I was thinking about but I can't remember now that I am writing. What kinds of things do you keep handy in order to help you through school and in the workforce. I am so looking foward to being a nurse that I am trying to plan and learn as much as possible. I am so excited about this that I am driving myself crazy with the thinking and planning. I am the worrier type and it makes me crazy. In a way I wish I wasn't that way. But that's another story. Well any input ideas suggestions and thoughts will be greatly appreciated.

am I crazy
I waa just wondering if this is to many classes to take on. I was planning 3-4 classes on campus during the week. 1-2 on weekend and 1-2 online. So I was just wondering is it to much? I also have two kids a hubby and a home. Will it be too much on me? I am just trying to plan ahead am not sure yet when I will start school. Either spring or fall 09. The sooner the better. Also anyone who has done online classes which ones are the easiest and which are the hardest? I was thinking about eng intro to ethics or psychology to take online but am not sure what to do. I am just trying to focus and make sure I have everything planned perfectly before I even apply to school. Well sorry for the rant. Any advice and input will be greatly appreciated. Thanks to all in advance.

College of Staten Island
Hi all! Anyone who has attended or is attending csi, I was just wondering how long did it take you to get your prerequisites done. How many classes did you take a semester? How many general ed classes did you have to take? Also I noticed the offer an a and p course online which is 6 weeks long does taking that class count for the prerequisite. Or will it be a waste of time and money to take it and not get credit for it. How long did it take you to get into the program after prereqs? What were your grades and gpa? I want to attend csi and trying to get all the info possible so I can plan ahead. Also did anyone take any of there classes online? How did you like it and will you recommend it to a mother of two and out of school for over five years. Please help all advice and suggestions wil be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance.

I am giving up
Thanks to all for all the kind words. I did post another thread in which I stated I was gonna do it. I will not let anyone take my dreams from me. People kept giving me negative responses that it scared me. But then all you kind people here at allnurses gave me courage and hope to follow my dream. I am actually so looking foward and excited about getting back into school. I have to this for me and my family. They are very supportive of my goals. And that gives me courage to do it. I know it my be a long hard road. But I know I can do it. Why not? If others have so can I. Hopefully I will begin the nursing program in spring of 2010 it seems so far away. But I know it is not time goes by fast. Thanks to all for your words I owe it to you guys for keeping my dream alive. Thank you all and I wish everyone the best of luck to the already nurses, to the new grades, to the students in nursing already, to the pre nursing students, and to the ones that just need little steps to get in the door. We shall achieve greatness and the best to all.

classes!
I would like to know how many classes are people starting out with? Also are there any students which are parents and taking two or more classes in a semester? How many classes are you taking? How hard is it? Is it doable? Do you regret taking on so many? How many hours a week are you dedicating to school on campus and at home? How many days a week? Sorry for all the questions I am just trying to get an idea of what others are doing. I am planning ahead before I even start school I want to take as much classes as possible. But I am also the mother of 2, have a hubby and have a home to deal with. What do people recommend as to how many classes to take and how many days a week? Does anyone take more than one class in one day? Am just trying to get some info. Thanks to all that reply.

it is depressing and dissapointing
I am planning in going into nursing school in about a year or so. But I am having my doubts. I keep reading these threads about how hard it is to be a nurse. I keep reading all these stories about how much back stabbing there is amongst co workers. Also about how management let so many things slide by. How there is no support in the job. There is so much things I have been reading that make me wonder is this the right thing to do. I don't want to go into a career in which I am going to be unhappy in, I see that being one big issue for the nurses here. I am so confused on what to do. Please tell me that most places are decent ones to work in. Is nursing really that bad? Please help me so I can finally make my desicion. Thanks to all

Is BSN ( bachelor degree in nursing) worth it ?
I think you should go for it. I have no degree yet but my plans are aas in nursing then go for bsn work a little bit and hopefully go to become a crna. You should do it specially it is only two semesters that will go by so fast. And you never know if you might need it in the future. Things could change years from now, in which everyone will require a bsn. You should do it now instead of worrying later. That's my opinion. Good luck in what you decide and only you knows what is best for yourself.

what are the different kinds of floors?
I am still not a nursing student so I really don't know. Hope to be one in the next year or so. Can someone explain to me the different departments I hear people talking about telemetry and med surg and all other different ones. Can someone tell me what they are and what kind of work is done? What types of patients? Thanks

Why ADN is Better Than BSN for CRNA.. For Some
To treezuh, too old? I am the same age as you and the mother of two. A five year old and a soon to be one year old. I am planning to hopefully one day become a crna. I am planning to start school in the spring do my prerequisites in about a year hopefully less. Then go fo the aas in nursing. Get my rn license. Work for a few months and start my bsn. Hopefully do that in two years. Work for a few more months to complete the time and experince in icu care in order to get accepted into a crna program. Then apply for crna school hopefully get in and work my behind off in it. I will not work during this time and focus only in school and of course my family. You are still very young and could do anythinng you set your mind to. Never say am too old I certaintly don't feel that way. I wish you the best of luck in whatever you decide. And best of luck to anyone else in the process of getting into or currently in nursing school. We shall all achieve great things.

has anyone attended columbia university
Thank you for the info. Well I am planning to attend csi, first get my aas then go for my Bachelors and hopefully attend columbia to get my masters to become a crna. But I don't know how hard and long this road will be. I was just wondering because my hubby said you will never get into columbia with a ged. And I said under the requirements to get in it says nothing about that. If it was important it will be listed under the requirements I think. Hopefully I can accomplish my goals.

has anyone attended columbia university
I have a questions for anyone that has attended columbia. Or if anyone knows the answer. Is it true that columbia will not allow someone with a ged to attend there school. Do you have to be a high school graduate. Doesn't grades gpa test scores licenses and whatever else the requirements to get in what matters. Please someone tell me that it is not true. That someone with a ged can attend the school.

I am going to do it
Hi all. I previously posted a thread in which I stated I was giving up my dream about going to nursing school. The reason was because people kept telling me how hard it was. They had scared me away. But thanks to all the wonderful replys I received I have changed my mind. People here are so helpful and supportive, that everytime I read a reply I had tears in my eyes. People were so incourageing it was amazing. So I want to thank all the wonderful people which helped me see that I can do it. I will go back to school and work my behind off to get into nursing. This is what I want to do, and I won't let no one take that away. I will start slowly cause I do have two children, a home, and a partner. But I will succeed. Thank you to all the wonderful people on here that have helped me.
