Need Pregnancy Advice/Answers
I am a nurse, but I happen to be a Diabetic nurse so I have alot of questions bout my pregnancy. I am currently 37 weeks and 1 day - due on February 26th. Basically since Friday I have been having BP issues. At my appointment on Friday I spiked to 133/88, which is pretty darn high for me. Usually, even through the duration of my pregnancy, I am low 100's over 70-80's. The doctor that I saw on Friday was concerned so he wanted me to check my BP off and on over the weekend call in anytime the bottom number became 85 or greater. He also wanted me to come back for an appointment Monday (today). At the appointment the doctor also said that I was not dilated. Saturday night I spiked to 146/106 - so I called the on-call doctor and needless to say, he wanted me to come to the hospital. Both blood and urine were checked w/ nothing abnormal resulting - so I don't have toxemia - just pre-eclampsia. The doctor who I saw in the hospital is the same doctor I saw at my appointment today. The first thing he says to me is: "You know you are going to have this baby early, right?" I say, "Why is that?" He basically said that my BP is just going to get worse, so whichever comes first (a continuation of increased BP's or dilation) I am going to be induced. This doctor internally checked me kept reaching inside of me and checking and checking. He said that he couldn't find/ feel my cervix. Is this normal??? What the heck does this even mean? Does this mean that I am not dilated since he couldn't feel my cervix or could I be dilated and he just cannot feel it? He wants me to come back Thursday. Do you think he wants me to come back Thursday for the BP issues or because of not being able to feel the cervix? Any feedback would be appreciated!!! Thanks! -Andrea

Help Me Relax - Did I DO Something Wrong?
I work on a pediatric diabetic floor. I discharged a child tonight who is on NPH and Regular Insulin - a new onset diabetic. After prescriptions had been given and ALL discharge paper work was signed, before walking out the door Mom wanted the kids's blood sugar checked. Mom checked it with the hospital's meter and it read 318. Kid was hungry and it was almost time for supper. So Mom administered dinner does of NPH and Regular; which was 3 units and 3 units. So, kid is allowed to eat in half hour after giving Insulin - Mom said they were going to go to McDonalds on the way home. We do computer charting and the kid was discharged out of the computer and I never had a pre-defined order for that dose since that was what he was going home on. I forgot to put the blood sugar and Insulin the the diabetic flowsheet in the paper chart. Appareantly Mom had called the doctor later tonight - work called me and asked me about the blood sugar and Insulin since they werent charted. I asked work if there was a problem, they said no, just that the Mom called the doctor - I am not sure about what exactly. At any rate, I am FREAKING out!!! Did I do something terribly wrong, other than forgetting to chart? What if he comes back to the hospital to be admitted? Im afraid I am going to get in trouble. Please relieve my anxiety... Andrea

new to this board and i just took the nclex for the second time
LittleChirpyGN, Hang in there, kid! I have been where you are, that is for sure. I have taken the NCLEX three times; the third being today. I am in the same boat; waiting, waiting, waiting.... (sigh) The first two times I took the NCLEX I got 265. The second time I know I got the last question wrong. This time I took the test I got 116! What a change from 265. I didnt and still dont know what to think about that. I am pretty sure that I got my last question correct. But they say that doesnt necessarily make a difference. Did you notice if you were getting alot of the "Who would you see first" type question? That is supposedly a good indicator that you are doing well. I will be thinking about you over the next several days. I wish you the best of luck. Keep positive! LuvLotB

Took NCLEX today...
As announced, I took my NCLEX today; for the third time. I walked out of there feeling pretty good. But then reality set in: remember the questions I debated about. The computer shut off at 116. Way different than my previous two experiences, where I had 265 each time! I feel very confident that I got my last question correct. I also noticed that throughout the last half of my test I got many questions like: "Who would you see first, Who would you discharge first..." I was told that was a good sign. I never have gotten as many of those in my last two sittings as I did today. I leave you all with some questions: A patient received a Bone Marrow Transplant 2 days ago. What would you want to report immediately? A. BP of 98/60 B. Temp of 37.2 (97.2) C. Nausea and Vomiting D. Cough with Yellow Sputum Which would you want to carry out for a comatose client who is to recieve an intermittent NG feeding? A. Lay then on their LEFT side B. Hang the bottle higher than height of the stomach What would be an act of negligence? A. Filling out an incident report about a client's fall and leaving it on the outside of the chart B. Telling a client with a head injury that their Coma Scale Score went from 12 -> 14 Who would you see first? A. Someone with a casted Right extremity whom has right edema and decreased circulation B. A client with a Coma Scale score of 7 and is restless Who would you discharge first in a disaster? A. Bowel Resection 48 hours ago, whom is NPO B. Infant who had a Pylorotomy 2 hours ago who vomited their first feed and retained the second A postpartum client of 2 days has saturated several pads in 2-3 hours and has not responded to modalities to firm her Uterus; the doctor tells you that this is ok and expected. What is essentail to do next? A. Tell the charge RN B. Document the conversation with the MD in the chart *These were questions I wrestled over and cannot seem to find the answer to once I arrived home.* Ill check back with everybody on Saturday when I get my results.

Taking NCLEX on Thursday (3rd time)
Hello All, I have only posted several times, but have found this group to be much support. Even though I dont post and communicate replies, I am reading them! I just wanted to say that I re-taking the NCLEX this Thursday, February 5th, for the third time. I have had much preparation and have put the books down very little the past several days. I congratulate Jacel, as she and I went through Nursing school together as well as the hurendous feat of taking this thing soo many times. Great job, Jennifer! I just ask that everyone say a little prayer or good wish for me. If you have any last minute advice, send it my way. Thanks for ALWAYS listening! I WILL and can OVERCOME this!!! :roll LuvLotB

Took NCLEX Today for the Second Time
Hello All! I have not been on here in a looooong time (since I took my NCLEX in June). Anyways I just took the test again today for the second time. When I ttok the test back in June, I got 265 questions. Believe it or not, I got all 265 AGAIN! This frustrates me because I feel like I did the same if not worse. I am sooo scared of failing the NCLEX a second time. I dont know what I will do. I want to know how much validity there is in the last question prediciting your pass/fail status on the test... I can say right now I am pretty darn sure I got the last question wrong. I felt like the last question was hard. You tell me what you think: The last question was talking about a patient in Buck's traction who had a compressed Peroneal nerve and wanted to know what a sign of this would be. I dont remember all the choices. But, I basically chose the choie that had something to do with the Achilles Tendon. I dont know about anyone else, but I have never even learned about the Peroneal nerve. But after looking it up on the net, I belive the answer was problems dorsiflexing the foot. Thanks, LuvLotB
