  1. I think checking in is a great idea! I agree with Zmansc.. Even if you don't get the position now, you never know if another interviewer will accept the position and/or work out. Make them remember you! Checking in makes you seem eager and responsible. All which are great traits in a new employee.
  2. Thanks all! I'm feeling a little more justified now! Just seeing 25 pts/day (being a new grad).. I'm charting during lunch and coming in early just to keep up!! Frankly, I never want to get to the point where I would see 50 during an 8hr shift. I just don't believe I would be giving good quality care if I did.. While money is important, safety will always come first. So if that is the expectation, then there are plenty of other jobs out there!
  3. I'm in Nv now, and graduated in 2013:-) I was offered 2 positions before I graduated. One from working as an RN at the hospital and the other from doing clinicals during school. So luckily I never had to interview. My preceptor texted me saying come to work! We had a meeting to discuss wages, benefits, and hours. Easy breezy.
  4. We have 1 MA for the clinic, so I do all of my own referrals, immunizations, etc.. They even told me I should be helping check people in! If all I had was otitis and URIs then I could see more of course, but I may have a 2 day old with jaundice, then a well woman with pap, an uncontrolled DM, then suturing a minor laceration. That's a typical day, and I feel strapped for time already! I feel I'm not only advocating for me but the patients as well. I refuse to compromise safety, and I'm pretty sure they aren't going to back me up if I hurt someone. So far I have great patient satisfaction scores so they can't complain about that one.
  5. So I am a fairly new grad (graduated Sept 2013). I am working in a clinic where I see newborns to advanced age. The majority are pediatric (about 80%). Today we had a "meeting" where I was told that I need to increase the amount of patients I see per day. I am seeing around 25 pts/day. I often have to work through lunch to catch up and I come in early to stay on top of all the extra's. I feel maxed. I was told that many providers are seeing up to 50 pts/day! I said I can't do it, and I would end up compromising patient safety if I even attempted that. So I would love to hear how many patients you see a day, and what your thoughts are about this issue. Is this a reasonable expectation?
  6. Hi! I am currently on a travel assignment and I am doing my BSN online..1 more semester and I will be done...It hasn't been anymore difficult for me than when I was at home..It makes no difference if I am sitting at my computer in Washington or Texas, its still my computer..For your BSN there is not a crazy amount of clinical requirements, so for the ones that are required(for me, a case management paper on a homeless family)..I just picked up a phone book and looked up shelters, easy enough...If you made it through your RN then your most likely dedicated enough to be able to complete your BSN online.. For me, I love it! I found I actually have learned more with my online studies, because in class I would get so bored I would zone out no matter how hard I tried..at least online when I get to that spot, I stop, and continue when I am able to focus!
  7. I am currently in their RN-BSN distance learning. I was planning on doing the FNP program also:cry:...As soon as it was announced one of the professors told me that it was due to the budget crisis and at this point they have no plans to restart the program. If and when the budget improves they may decide to reevaluate.....So sad, now I am just finishing up my BSN, and it looks like I have to apply to another school now....I was really upset at first but now I have finally come to terms with it, haha...well sort of
  8. Hahahaha, that's hilarious..I have been falling asleep and the tune to the Kangaroo pumps has gone through my head.. Dododo..dodo...hahaha..I need a vacation:)
  9. Thank you so much for all the information! I really appreciate it, I am not sure I could handle finishing it all in 2 years anyway! Good luck in your studies, hope all is going well
  10. I hope you don't mind, but I do have another question. Do you know if the 2 year full time program is available online? One of the directors there emailed me and said 95% of people choose the 3 year part time program, but no other specifics(and I hate to keep bugging them) Do you know why? Maybe because most of us will be working RN's? I guess these are good questions to ask at orientation next month too, but its kind of nice to hear from someone who is doing it! I would like to get it done as quickly as possible, but of course at the same time want to be successful, as I do work and have a family! Well good luck in your studies!
  11. I have a question for you, please..I have just been accepted into the RN to BSN online program at SB and am planning on applying to the FNP program there also when the time comes(they let you apply half way through your bsn completion). My question is..How long does the program take to complete? I am hoping that it does not take 4 years since it is only part time, also do you have to take the MSN portion and then the FNP portion or do they combine this MSN/FNP? They are not very specific in their website! Thanks
  12. St. Joes no longer pays for schooling! They recently stopped in the last couple years...Which is quite unfortunate since I am in school currently..with the buy out on Madrona-It is DEFINITELY a monopoly...Not only that but a lot of nurses are stuck there because it is the only hospital in town-as opposed to Seattle with many other choices...
  13. I work at St Joseph hospital, and we NEVER take 8 patients, EVER! The ratio is actually 5:1 for days & evenings, and 7:1 for night shift-that is every floor...Except of course specialty areas like ICU,CVU etc where you take even less...Salaries are not merit based, and it is a requirement to join the WSNA-which means no profit sharing:( like the rest of the hospital...Its hospital work, its tough...Just like every other hospital out there
  14. I laughed so hard my stomach hurts...I cannot believe you said that..That is so wrong
  15. So this is my very first post, so forgive me if I am not doing this correctly... I am an RN, and was just accepted into Stony Brooks online Rn to BSN program...I am wondering if anyone else is doing/has done this program. I would love to hear how long the program takes, how difficult compared to an RN program, and how many hours of clinicals are required etc...The online part does not make me nervous-I have taken a lot of online classes and LOVE them...I find it much easier to study at home, then force myself to go to a class that I just end up day dreaming the whole time anyway! haha
