Prior military experience (ancillary medical) helpful for admission??
You are definately in if you don't blow your interview/1st impression. My interview was 5 mins long, my GRE score stunk but my GPA 3.9 Apply!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Crna Programs Without Gre Scores
In my opinion, the GRE is nothing more than a formality and serves no other purpose other than choosing between two equally qualified candidates and has no use as an accurate predicator of future success. Just my two cents.

Any new SRNAs at LSU New Orleans?
Like most professions in Louisiana, the starting salary is below national average, but like anything, it depends on who you know. If employed by a hospital which is now starting to become saturated (not a lot of turnover), then the salary is capped. If working for a provate surgical group, more competative salaries but you better come w/ a good foundation of exp...... some groups will not want to take a chance on hiring a new grad, but that relates to everything..... most people on this site will recommend more than a yr of ICU exp to apply to CRNA school.... not the case. Heck, if you have 6 months of exp, submit your application in my opinion. Two more points to possibly ponder- Locum Tenems(Agency) is a possibility; Anesthesia Assistants are trying to make a push in our state also... already, the job opportunities will dip then level off w/ CRNA positions.... remember, LSU/OLOL graduate at least 30 students a classs(LSU avg 35-40). Points to ponder and I have not even started school yet, but after the first couple of semesters, I will reach out to some clinicians and networking. Hope it helps.

I also agree that the GRE is not a reliable predicator of past or future academic success. I did horrible on the GRE.... but have a 3.89 GPA. During my interview, two of the faculty mbrs expalined to me that they do not look heavily @ GRE scores; they look @ a number of different factors- Exp; if you have military exp and have a decent GPA, you are more than likely in. A number of schools might also require CCRN cert..... mine did not, and again, that cert does not make you a better critical care RN than RNs who do not have it. Good luck and regardless of what you peers might say, APPLY!!!!!!!!!!!

Should I wait? please advise!
My GPA: 3.89. They will look @ overall nursing/science grades, but one of my best friends got in w/ a 3.2 GPA. Sell yourself in the interview, and you will get in. As far as the CCRN cert is concerned, unless your school requires it, I would not take it...... just another set of initials to place behind your name and does not have any financial benefits. just my opinion.

Re: Prospective LSU SCRNA Students
Not a problem..... just giving everyone a heads up. As far as class content from what I have been told, does differ between summer/fall, but to what degree, I do not know. I do know that if I chose to take the class in the summer, we should have our tutition adjusted, but that's not the case. If you basically want to pay for the class twice, that's each individual student's choice. I would rather save my money:nuke:

Undergraduate Transcript Questions
Absolutely not. I had to withdraw from an entire semester to be deployed to Iraq. Concentrate on your core Nurs grades, not the bs paper classes... Pharm;Clinicals, etc. The Admissions committee also looks heavily @ science grades... A&P, Chemistry, etc. Good luck!
-
Should I wait? please advise!
Why wait? Everyone has thier own opinion on the subject. Just recieved my acceptance letter w/ barely a year of ICU exp. If you delay your application, you will regret it in the long run. What is the worst thing that they can say...... pls resubmit your application next yr. Go for it! No time like the present!!!!!!!!!
-
Do CCRN scores matter?
In my humble opinion, unless your school specifically requires that you be certified, why waste your time? I recieved acceptance to both of the CRNA schools that I applied to without it, and does a CCRN cert make you a better critical care RN?--- absolutely not.....

Re: Prospectice LSU CRNA Students
Have some info to pass on to all students who will be attending LSU in Aug: For those students contemplating taking the NURS 6305 class(Registration begins on May 2nd) here is what I have found out from a reliable point of contact: If you decide to take the course, will have to pay for it in full Advises aganist taking the course early b/c you will still have to pay full school tutition in the fall.... even if you successfully complete the course early, we will still be charged a full-time admission fee. The school will not deduct the cost of NURS 6305 from the fall fees. Hope thiks helps.

Re: Prospective LSU SCRNA Students
First, I love this website. Anyway, have some important information to share w/ you: For anyone interested in enrolling in NURS 6305(registration begins May 2nd) pls read the following: I called Dr....name removed by moderator for privacy concerns....(point of contact for the course) and she relayed the following info regarding the course: If you choose to enroll in the course, you will have to pay for the course completely out of your own pocket If you decide to take the course early, which I had planned to originally do, we will still be charged full admission fees regardless of whether you have taken the class early. In short, if you take the class early, you will still be obligated to pay full time fees; essentially, paying for the class you have already taken during the fall semester. Dr. xxxx advises aganist it, knowing that you will have completed a class required during the first semester and still have to pay for the class indirectly in your fees during the fall semester. The class in question will not be as detailed as the advanced pharmacology class that we will be taking(NURS 6305) consists mostly of written paper submittal- back to APA format again. Just thought that I would share this info.

I have to ask what is an AANA number? I guess that you have to join the organization to gain access?

Stressing over GRE scores
To all potential applicants: GRE scores are nothing more than a formality. It is in no way an accurate predicator of past or future academic success. I was granted acceptance into both of the CRNA schools that I applied to w/ less than 1 yr ICU exp. My GRE was very low, but still got accepted; imagine that.....
