  1. maybe you friend didn't "report" you but went to ask what happened and ended up getting into a little bit of trouble herself and the DON decided to make the big deal out of it. i would suggest you might consider writing a letter to both your friend and the DON, stating it wasn't your intention to make anyone uncomfortable, nor to cross any professinal lines, and appoligize.
  2. i'm a school nurse in a a small school one of each grade pk3 to 8th grade i'm getting the medications ready to send home at the end of the year. I have NOTHING for grade 6-8th 2 allergy/asthma related items for 5th grade 6 allergy/asthma related items for 4th grade 2 allergy/asthma related items for 3rd grade 3 allergy/asthma related items for 2nd grade 2 allergy/asthma related items for 1st grade 2 allergy/asthma related items for k 4 allergy/asthma related items for 3&4 yo's only thing of note is 5th grade is unussually small ( 14 when norm is about 25) make me ask what changed. and i know that this follows allergy stats, major rise in kids born after 1999.
  3. there are so many non hospital/nursinghome option out there. too many to list i think i've been a nurse for many many years and have only working in a facility for 1 year. i;ll giv eyou a few that come to mind easy homecare, public health hosipce school nurse nurse advocate medical marketing medical manufacturing doctor's office industiral nurse occupational health nurse nursing education look at the sub specialities list on here
  4. I haven't read any response due to time and while you must do what you need to do for you family situation not only am i a nurse but the daughter of a nurse i still remember being 6 years old and waking up, having been sleep walking out on to my parents front porch screaming for my mother this was the ngith before my mom wen t intot work and told them she would no longer work rotating shifts, put her on one and keep her there it was too distruptive for me not knowing when she's be home
  5. AAhhh haaa... craigslist had nursing jobs list for 1-4 wks commitment $5,000 per week, luxury hotel accomidations figured there was a strike pending somewhere
  6. I'd talk to the schoolwith the 2nd degree program, they might accomidate your need for Part time, I got my BSN in a 2nd degree program many moons ago also look at entry level MSN programs, sometimes you can take a year or 2 off before goin gon for your masters... find a school close to you whihc you liek and talk to them about your options
  7. II think you need to tell the NM what the senior nursing are doing, there is NO WAY 2-3 pt verse 7 pt is fair for any reason they are abusing their role and you adnthe other nurse if they always got the one less pt, while not nice, it's not a huge deal Ithinkthe NM need to know what up,
  8. I work at a place that has a motion senser alarm where the sound emitting part is at the desk so the pt never has to hear it. I found it very anoying but I guess it works
  9. I think it depend on what "descision Maker" legally entails I work as part time a pvt Geri case manger fora legal guardian of demented elders. I have written permission to have access to all medical information for our clients. I can walk into any facility and look at any of their charts without notice, I just have to give them a copy of my releases. is the pt compitent? are they demented? a HCP doesn't have any rights until the pt is unable to maek their own health care choices. if you didn't have written documentation of his right to look at the chart you did the correct thing. if he does have a right to the chart he need to provide it to the facility to be put in the chart
  10. most places I've worked put up the sign-up for holidays just after the new year, this let people sign up for what they want and then the scheduler make sure it all works
  11. go to HR and have a meetign with HR and the nurse manager. they are legally obligated to keep confidenial info private. if you would be a risk to give notice, that it would give an abuser a chance to figure out your plan to leave. make an appt w/ HR, then pack you bags, meet with HR/ nurse manger tell them what and why and just keep on driving. good luck and be safe
  12. sounds a little bit like a homework assignment to me... and you do need to notify the MD the pt is refusing the meds
  13. if you have no drainage could it be epithilaized? I think it's pretty rare but I have heard deep wound epithializing. also call the wound vac company, I believe that there is NOT any size limits big or small
  14. if you can't remove the fuild in the ballon just cut the catheter... sure has heck DON"T just pull it out if you can't remove the fuild. Working in Home care/ hospice finding a syrigne to remove the fuild can be imposible but you can always deflate the balloon by cutting the catheter. you can just cut off the fill port while covering the port with a chuck and the balloon is empty.
  15. one day last week it we had a bit of a warm up here in teh northeast, hit the mid 40's. after running around at recess 2 Kindy kids came in complaining of being hot... I total them to take off their sweatshirts and go back to class
  16. I totally understanad what you are saying. I get a little tired of hearing about all the stuff that happend when I'm not here ( I work part time at a pvt school) and how they could have use me. sorry but you guys only pay me to be here 15 hrs a week. the other thing is, I don't think the security guard is a hero, he just did his job. where I work all the teachers and staff are CPR certified. I would think that every staff member there should have been able to help that child.

250 kids, 3yo to 8th grade, pvt school the # of visit vary greatly, but I have 2 diabetics, and visit tend to be more when it's nice enoguht o go out for recess :) one day I had 1/2 the 8th grade trying to get home :)
  19. not all doctors are as up on new "normal levels" is the pt having hypothryoid symptoms? does she have antibodies? even some endocrinlogists are not as up on new recommendatins as they should be.
  20. what exactly do you dread? which parts do you like, what do you hate... woudl a few days off help? don't give up on nursing, jsut casue you don't like this place B
  21. due to the small size of my school ( 260 kids pk3 to 8th grade) since my overall volume is moderate to low I try to think about why my FF are there. they are there because of a problem... it my not really be a problem I can fix, but the child is looking for help. sometimes it's that they need a break from the classroom, sometimes the teacher need a break from the kid and their complaining. I often tease the 2nd and 3rd grade teachers that they have a compition going for the lamest reasons for kids coming down to my office. but I can imagine in a nurse has a high caseload of kid who need nursing care that the non issue become a burden.
  22. have fun, it sounds a little like my school, 260 kids, but we are pvt pk3-8grd. b
  23. when I was in nursing school a fellow student, who was on thin ice already, dragged the end of an IV line thru a trash can and across the floor prior to going to hooking it up, in front of our our clinical instructor, who was the dean of the nursing school... the instructor had to physically stop the student form hooking up the IV. the girl was booted form the program
  24. I did oncall for over 2 yr and left not long ago because of changes. one was that oncall started having admissions... too much IMO as evening of oncall were often very busy ( our census was about 200) we didn't do IDT, they have a right to change the job and you have a right to not work under those conditions. I believe if you leave under a change in job description you can claim unemployment
  25. I think you are going to have to put forth a convincing argument for why you won't fail agian to any school. you need to opennly address why you failed and show what measure you have or will take to make sure that it doesn't happen again.
