  1. The only thing I have noticed is that it is very annoying and quite rude in my opinion if you are only person who does not speak their language sitting at the table and they have a conversation you can not understand.
  2. See I feel that if you have a good boss they would want to know how their employee is doing? Especially if you feel it is affecting your work. But I have heard you should never tell your boss about your personal issues. I am a very personable person so I would want to know how MY employees were, but I guess that is just me.
  3. I was speaking to my sister about why I constantly feel anxious to go to work and feel like I am about to be fired. I think she made a good point. It is a conditioned response. Everytime I have been written up, I had NO warning had been off for a couple days prior to it, no verbal warning, no warning at all, nothing. Everyone acted like they normally do then bamb after the mgrs leave for the day, my supervisor gives me the write up. Even this last one, I worked a double. I worked from 7am to 11pm. It was not till 4pm right before the mgrs were leaving did I get called into the DON's office to get my write up. They waited all fing day. It is like they sneak attack you. my boss kept telling me document document documentafter my last write up I document everything, I did that and they even said it was not right and the wound was there. I had documented on the tx sheet, progress notes, and braden page. It is kinda like if soemone walks up to you everyday at 4 pm and punches you, at like 3:45 your gonna get anxious just waiting for the punch. I am REALLY REALLY trying not to be nutso, but it is so hard, especially cause I am the only working person in my home. Hubby has been laid off for 4 months and can not get a damn job. Just thought I would share, just trying to work through it.
  4. LOL Story of my life. I have had 4 days off now I am worried what I will have done wrong when I get there. It seems every time I have time off I come back to have done something wrong. Anxiously waiting to get through tomorrow.
  5. Would they appreciate it or make you look weak? I am talking anxiety that is affecting you at home
  6. I have been told for 15 year that I had depression and anxiety. I never believed it. After my daughter was born 4 yrs ago, it got really really bad. To a point where I could not be a good mom with it. Up until then I could handle it, although rough. Well I was put on prozac and it was like a new life. I felt wonderful. End of last year I had SEVERAL thing happen in a 2 month time that seem to start my anxiety engine and it has been a very very rough ride, In Nov I ended up at the ER for palps and a heart rate of 160ish, and prescribed xanax .25. I was convinced it was cardiac and not anxiety, I had never had anything that physical happen to me due to anxiety, AND nothing happened that day. I am scared to be addicted to anything so I only take it prn maybe 4 pills a week. It has helped with the acute part of it, I am in the process controlling it other ways.
  7. I am a nurse and I do have both issues. My depression is controlled, but I have to say that my anxiety has gotten worse as a nurse. It is about treatment, and if your superiors are willing to work with you, unbiased, you will do just fine. I do not make alot of mistakes or anything.
  8. excellent point!!! I am writing up a statement today to add. I just hope they are NOT trying to get rid of me.
  9. Well I have 3 write ups. I did question about them to the DON, she said the reason we HAVE to write you up for the skin is because if the state comes in we have to have a trail of what happened and what we did. As far as the coumadin, my mgr said it was ridiculous to write me up but she had to write up several other "seasoned" nurses so she had to write me up so if it was ever investigated. The pt had not had an INR drawn in 4 weeks and was on coumadin. She has stressed to me that skin issues are her bigest issue and she does NOT like wounds. So I am not sure if I am doomed or if I am just taking it way to personal. After the first 3 write ups I frankly asked my ADON if they were planning on getting rid of me, she said NO. I am just sick to my stomach with worry I have made another mistake of some kind. I would feel better about it if I didnt do my work and got into trouble, or if I did it intentionally but I dont. I check and recheck. I really like where I work and the ppl I work with so I want to try and make it work but not sure where to go.

I do not do drugs, I however just started taking xanax prn, which is like 3-5 pills a week. I am having some serious anxiety. I want to get a contingent job but wondering if that will show up in a drug test and I will fail.

yes i make great money. I work in LTC
  12. wow that really sucks for me. I was told that the coumadin one was because they had to have it in writing in case the state looks at it. So what should I do? I have already told them that I like my job, and am willing to do what it takes to be a great nurse. Should I just ask them or not say anything else?
  13. I am wondering what your experience has been with write ups. How many do you get before being fired? Here is my story. I feel like I have no job security. and this is making me crazy. I have been employed at this place for 6 months, with NO verbal warnings, no talkings, nothing. I even questioned the mgr and ADON on how they felt I was doing, only had been an LPN for 9 months. They all told me fine, no real good remarks but none bad. I came into work one day and my supervisor says oh your mgr says this isf or you. It was a write up for not doing a skin assessment. I signed it, i was so embarrassed. I did do the assessment but didnt initial the paper. Then a week later I get two more for the same reason. I then left messages for the mgrs to explain those were not mine to do. Never a call back, as a matter of fact at this point of being there for 6 months, no verbals, and 3 write ups I had not even been able to speak face to face with the ppl writing me up. Then as I explained myself they said they would look into it. A month later I got a write up due to giving coumadin with no INR result on file. There were 14 nurses written up for it. Nothing ever was said, this was 3 months ago. Well last week was the next write up for supposidly not finding a wound, that was not there. Read my other post. Here is the point. I got the original skin write up, I took responsibiliyt cause I didnt sign it, eventhough this is a common occurance for many many nurses. The next two they threw out but didnt eve bother to tell me till last week. The next coumadin I signed because I did give it. Although I was told that med errors are not treated the same as other write ups. Then this last one for missing a wound. I feel like a total failure but at the same time, I feel like I am NOT making the same mistakes twice I am LEARNING from them. Do you think I should find another job and start over or let it ride. maybe I am being to sensitive?
  14. Are any nurses in unions? Does it do any good? Are they treated any better? Just curious.
  15. well here is the update.....I have had two talkings with DON and mgr. Mgr talked to the next day nurse who is a awesome experienced nurse whom did the skin assessment, and did NOT SEE THE WOUND. The mgr and don said the write up stays because she can not accept a "aquired". We went 3 months with no wounds and now this is like 3 or 4 this month. The mgr says, she knows they were there because the CNA said they were. I asked her if she seen them herself. She said she seen them with the other mgr the next am. The mgr wouldnt even turn around and look at me. I told them both at the same time that I do not agree with it and dont understand why I, LPN and another seasoned admission nurse RN can do a skin assessmetn and see nothing then a CNA can say it was there. adn that is it. I told them that I was not going to sign that and that I would like to attach a statement with it as to the reason that I do NOT agree. After venting to a couple nurses, I have heard so many things that majority of our nurses are very upset about. And the top 5 reason are always the same. The term walking on eggshells seems to be a theme. I asked why they personally have not done anything. Their reason are the same as mine, we need our jobs. I do not believe the "higher ups" or owner know how we are being treated. I would love to do something but as I stated I need my job. Oh and DON said she does not condone the adding to or changing my documentation and she would take it up with the person whoom done it.
  16. I am just curious on how often is too often to switch places you work. I have been in nursing for 14 months and have worked 2 places. I know nurses that have worked 5 plus in that amount of time. Doesnt that say something? I want to get a contingent job but dont want to seem like a job hopper.

I have been an LPN for 14 months. We dont have shift diffs. OUr yearly are very low however. I think the max is .30 year raise. This is the second facility I have worked at and I got a 5.00 raise when I came to this one. I was awesome.
  18. great advice, thank you
  19. I have a problem with it also. I mean this particularly isnt an isssue but it could be if they were to do it to other documents. I have not decided yet as to what if anything I will do about it.
  20. Yes the mgr did change my braden scale numbers, clearly. I am going to try and be firm when I talk to her but I get all nervous and tongue tied. I am going to work on it. I also spoke to the nurse that was on the next am shift who did the skin assessment AFTER me. She said there was NO wound on the buttocks. This particular nurse is "friends and long time employee of the DON" So I am sure the write up will not stick. What is some of your opinions if she says it does stick. Would you just not sign it? Find another job? go to the administrator? I mean how far should I go? Is it insubordination if you dont sign the write up? What I dont understand is that if the majority of nurses feel like they are not appreciated, not respected, and are pushed to far boundries why havent we done anything about it? Why do we allow ourselves to be made to feel so incompetent and abused? Why havent we banded together and done something? Thanks for the replies!!
  21. i feel and have felt that i and other "new" nurses are scape goats for management. here is the looong story!! i worked a double yesterday. all was well. i have worked there not quite a year but close. half way through my day i get 3 new admits. then my manager calls me into the don office. they have written me up for an admit i did on last week. they say i didnt chart a stage two on the buttocks, i only charted the heal and bruises. she asked if i really did the assessment, i stated i did. the aide and daughter were in there with me. she then says well you know we have had issues with skin assessments with you before. brief history...months ago i came into work with a write up for not doing a skin assessment that was scheduled to do. i did actually do the assessment but didnt initial it. so i took the write up because if it were not signed it wasnt done right. prior to this i have never even had a verbal or talking to aobut this. then three days later i got a call to come in and work from 7 p to 11p, i did it. well the nurse that worked from 7a to 7p that i relieved didnt do any of the 3 skins that were due that day, so i did get two of them done along with my charting, the third was not done. they wrote me up, still had not talked to the person writing me up. two days later, i got sent home at 7p due to low census. i didnt know about this till 6:30. well again there was 2 skins due, i made sure one of them was done and passed or endorsed the next one to the nurse finishing the afternoon shift. well i recieved a write up when i returned to work for the skin not being done. i spoke to the mgr about it and they said ok they would take care of it. so i really only was responsible for one of them. so yesterday when she said "we have had issues before with skin and you" really ****** me off. anyhow, i supposidly missed this stage two (1 by 2) however the next am the nurse did her daily skin and wrote off. skin clean dry and intact, with a scab on the heal, exactly what i seen!! then the next afternoon they ordered cream for this wound that the aide found. the mgr went and crossed out my daily skin assessment and changed the braden scale by making my 2's into 3's so it would be a weekly skin instead of daily and added the stage two to my assessment. i went back into the don's office to talk to her about this but she was gone for the day. now i have to wait till tuesday to talk to her. now i dont know if i should bring this all up because it involves my mgr and i dont want back lash or if i should just go and try to defend my case of the following nurse not seeing the stage 2. i like my job but i dont stick up for myself and i think they have caught on to this. i am worried that my job is in jeapordy due to skin issues that i am not even responsible. i also dont want to rock the boat so much that everyone hates me. i am very anxious about this and dont know how far to take it. my husband is laid off and i can not afford to lose my job. please help!!!!! if you have any ideas or something similar let me know how you resolved it. oh and let me add i hate conflict.
  22. So then how have you guys found how the best way to cope it?
  23. kambra replied to kambra's topic in General Nursing
that is exactly why I want to get something, to stay updated. I subscribed to the advance one.
  24. What do you mean by "cut throat"? So do you do better if you try to get in the "in crowd", or become a brown noser. Any advise?
  25. What if any are the best for the buck. Would a nursing mag be just as good or should I stick with LPN since that is what I am. Also, if there is anyone out there that would be willing to sell old already mag(nursing) I would be very interested.
