  2. Hi Rebecca Merry Xmas again. I just came home from my night shift and I will cook dinner for the family. I am on again tonite for my last shift. I know you may be thinking that I am still working. Unfortunately the period of notice was 8 weeks so technically my last day of work is 31st DEc 08. I am taking my last annual leave due to me. Flight is booked for the 1st of January 09. Yeah New Year's day ...New beginning ...I am nervous ....can i change my mind and not go....**** I am worried. Have a nice Xmas and Happy New Year to all of you here Bye Ibby
  3. Hey Rebecca Have a nice Xmas and see you soon Bye Ibby
  4. Hi Gino How come you have to sit the SEC thing about the mental health. My pinoy girlfriend got her eligibility letter without any reference to that SEC thing. She trained in the Philippines as yourself. Yesterday she got her work permit via the post. So I dont understand why they ask you to sit for the SEC. So what are you going to do now? You are nearly there now. Are you going to give up and regret later in life? You have to do what you feel is right and I do think that you should be patient and dont look at Alberta as a way out from your ward. I dont know what is the issue you are having on your ward but just do the move cos you want to do it not cos you want to run away from your problem in your ward. Bye for now Ibby
  5. hi rebecca I am getting ready and i heard the weather is very cold ...ha ha -22c yesterday. Not bad i guess I am buying my snow boots and parka...they are on sale here in the outdoor shop called Millets. Any last minute advice or tips? I am starting on the 5th January 09 at 7:15 am ..oops very early. byre for now Ibby
  6. gino wats your name on yahoo messenger ..we can talk there
  7. Hi Rebecca R u serious about the Marmite? I dont mind bringing a big pot for you. Its been ages I've eaten marmite....I like it in my soup. Love it or loathe it....Ha Ha...BTW How big you want the pot? Ibby
  8. Hi It is the fear of the unknown. Uncharted territory. I guess its normal to feel that way. Thanks a lot guys for your support or else i would have given up a long time ago. Ibby
  9. Hi Gino What was the other option? You did not mention it. Are you short of hours for the mental health section? I was not asked to do this SEC exam on mental health. BTW I did my RN training in London so I dont know much about your training in the Philippines re: mental health. I was not asked to do this exam by CARNA. You need to chase your agency to have the LMO. You will need it as its part of the essential documents for the issue of your work permit. I am getting ready to go ...still packing my stuff in boxes..suitcase to be filled. M&S has a 20% discount yesterday so I got the thermal vests and thermal long underwears as well as thermal socks. I bought loads of stuff online. Just hope they will be delivered before I leave. I know there is no M&S store there in Calgary. I am getting nervous and edgy now. I am worried cos I am giving up my Band 6 job and I am at the end of payscale for Band 6...I am paid more than my ward manager. Some of my colleagues are just surprised that i am leaving everything to go abroad. Is it worth it? I will tell them in a year's time. Regards Ibby
  10. Hi Rebecca I understand you are in the Edgemont area. I remember you mentioned it several times. Who knows i may go there too. Any last minute advice for me before I make the final jump. I will go to M & S and get loads of boxer shorts and socks. Shame there is no M & S in Calgary. Its OK i am not afraid of the cold ....cos I am cool ...ha ha Bye for now. Ibby
  11. Hi Rebecca Is it really cold? Its been freezing today in London. How are you by the way? I guess you are cool and settled now. Have you started your PNP yet? I need to ask you something about the rent. I saw a few places and the rent is above $1200 monthly. 2 or 3 rooms suite. Not far from Foothills. Can just walk to work. Do you think it is too much? I am looking in the long run as my OH will come with the youngest daughter in Aug 09 at least I dont need to move out again. I cant live in shared accomodation cos I cant stand if the place is untidy or dirty. I know maybe the rent is excessive but I dont want to be sharing my bathroom with others. I used to get upset when my flatmate used to **** on the toilet seat and leave me to clean it. He could not even raise the seat. Then he will fry dried fish every morning and the whole flat will stink of it. Even my clothes smelt of fish. I am packing some boxes to send as cargo. My cast iron pots ...cant leave them behind. Love them too much. I know cooking helps me relieve my stress. Bye for now. Am on londg day tomorrow. Ibby
  12. hi gino my LMO was sent to me via email 4 days after i got my eligibility letter from CARNA. You need to contact your agency and inform them you have got your eligibility letter.
  13. Hi Gino Now you need to get the Labour Market Opinion from your employer in Edmonton. Have you got your employment contract from your new employer? You need to start gathering documents to submit to the Canadian Embassy. Go to their website and start downloading the forms. They have got a checklist so go through it. i am leaving for calgary on the 1st of january. Bye Cocoy
  14. Hi Rebecca Good to hear from you. Thanks for the PMs about the money aspect. Your advice is well appreciated by both of us. I am just inquiring about the uniform...I saw all the nurses wearing scrubs and trainers. I could not tell who is who there in the unit. Did you buy yours in Calgary or did they tell you where to go and get it? I may buy the trainers here but i just want to know from you in case its the wrong pair. Do they have to be white pair of trainers? I hate trainers but if that the dressing code..so be it. You mention that you finished at 11:30 pm so i assumed that you drive there. How easy to get a driving licence ...I got my UK paper one changed to a photo one...is there any special form I need to fill to get a driving licence in Calgary. I have handed my notice as from today. Its 8 week notice for me as I am Band 6 or Charge Nurse as we used to be called. I am starting to feel resentment from my ward manager. She cancelled my study day as she said that as I am leaving it wont benefit the ward so no study day for me. Shame you have given them 13 years of your life then you cant even get 7.5 hours as a study day. Thats another story... You take care ...Bye for now ibs
  15. Hi Rebecca How are you? Good to hear from you again. How are things on your side? How about the exam? Was it Ok ? I am hoping to come by January to start on the 5th. I will definitely need your advice. I will be giving my notice at the end of this month. The house was to be sold but I changed my mind cos of ridiculous prices so i will rent it instead. I am gathering previous work experience from work colleagues. Is it possible to know approximately the first month salary so that I can budget. It will be hard financially as the house has not been sold. i need to count every penny. I dont think you are allowed any extra to top up your salary. I mean exta shifts is that possible? Anyway I am doing the 8 week rota for my wards to cover for the Xmas and New year period. Many staff are leaving from my ward. Its too heavy at present. I dont mind the heavy workload but being understaffed all the time is annoying. It means I have to do everything like coordinating the wards, take a group of patients and do all the paperwork like referrals, phone calls, daily audit for infection, etc.... Enough of that ...lets look forward for a better future thats the reason we are all leaving the UK. I am worried cos my OH has not received anything from the embassy. Her application was sent in August. She has written to them today and also email them too. Rebecca, you take care. Is it really cold now? I missed the snow. Bye for now Ibs
  16. Hey Rebecca How are things? I am starting on the 5th of January. Thats the latest that I know of. I did not hear from you for a long time and I did not want to disturb you while you are revising for the CRNE. How did it go? Keep in touch pls for the latest tip or advice Bye Ibby
  17. Hi Gino Even though I got my TWP i have not resigned yet cos i am supposed to start on 5th January 09 at Foothills Medical Hospital. I am planning to leave the UK by 31st Dec +/- a few days. My notice period is 8 weeks so I will submit my resignation by beginning of November. I am feeling quite nervous to leave everything behind. I have put my house on sale here in London but the price is not good so i intend to rent it to cover my mortgage costs. I understand you are heading to Edmonton so we can still chat online. How's your resignation gone? Still planning it ot have you submitted it? Good luck anyway. Cocoy
  18. Hi Cheeca Thanks for your reply. Where did you work in Calgary? I am planning to go in December 08. I am going to the Foothills. Are you back in England now? What happened to you when you failed the CRNE? Did you continue working as a Grad Nurse or did the hospital terminate your contract? I understand you are allowed to take the exam 3 times in a period of 2 years. Thats all our main worry. I dont mind giving up everything here but the uncertainty of passing the CRNE can be a very stressful thing hanging at the back of your mind. If you based the exam on your UK experience i was told that you won't pass it. Anyway I am planning to work first for a few months before I take the exam. Bye
  19. Hi Please to meet you. My other half is a Pinoy from Tolosa. small village 25 kms from Tacloban. She is a liver specialist nurse in the same hospital as mine. I may try the States one day but now it is because all my relatives are all over Canada. Its good to be not far from them as I have been the only one in my family who stay behind in the UK. Regards. Bye for now Ibrahim
  20. Hi Labvah Thank God my work permit has arrived last Friday. It seems that my last email where I complained about the lenghty wait and ask for a refund of my fee had worked. I am from London, United Kingdom. I trained there for 3 years from 1990-93. My specialities are neurosurgery, neurology, ENT, maxillo facial, urology and plastic surgery. I have been working as a RN at one of the biggest teaching hospital in London for the last 13 years. Anyway, i have been working most of my shifts as night duty during this month of Ramadan. The hours of fasting are 5:00 am to 19:00. I do only long shifts of 12.5 hours for the last 13 years. bye for now ibrahim
  21. Hi Labvab Happy Ramadan to you. I will see later if i will come to the US as i have already decided to go to Calgary for the meantime. It is cos all my relatives are in Canada. Bye for now. Looking forward to Eid. Peace be upon you. Ibrahim
  22. Hi Gino I got my work permit today. Bye Bye UK. Cocoy2go
  23. hi Gino My advice is NO at the moment. Think well cos its not easy just doing bank shifts for months. No annual leave and no sickness. If you are financially OK my answer would still be NO. Save your money for the hard times in Alberta. Bye
  24. Hi Gino Can you be patient until you get your permit sorted or do you know someone who can give you a work reference? You will need it there before you leave the UK. If you have someone then ok for you. Bye
  25. Gino If i were you i wont do anything ...wait until you have your medical exam. It can be a long frustrating wait. Trust me ..look at the other post where you said you are buying new mobiles to use in Alberta. I told you before i have been waiting since 10th of June for my permit. Its already 3 months. Nothing has happened. Just imagine if i resigned in June and start selling my things ..then i wont have any money and nothing in the house. I will wait until i see the permit with my eyes then i know i am leaving. Bye
