Good luck to all who take it! I'm going to be taking it to re-up my license and I am scared! Why oh why didn't I just keep paying the stupid 100 bucks to renew? Although.. at the time I didn't have it and I guess I figured I wouldnt need the license again since I'd been doing office nursing... and it wasn't required for that job. The office I worked for closed (the doc opted to become a hospitalist so he didn't have to worry if the insurance companies were paying him!) So now I have the choice of either working as an MA or front office, or taking another job altogether... I dont think any of these options will pay me what I need to survive. I'd love to go back to Kaiser, my first job, but I need my license to do that! Ack!

It absolutely depends on your location and your facility! Here in California I have plenty of opportunities, and not in only LTC or assisted living facilities! After I graduated I worked L&D, then I worked NICU. I worked for Kaiser and I felt that I was very appreciated. However, the LVN program I went through was two full years, so we had an excellent fund of knowledge. Afterward I took an OB specialist course which also helped me work in the area I wanted.

Every nurse has made errors. You did exactly the right thing. I see my mistakes as little reminders that I'm human. The up-side of your error is that now you will double and triple check every med you give! As a student nurse I gave a patient Tylenol with codeine when the order was for ASA with codeine. However, on her chart it said she was allergic to ASA, and obviously it ended up being better for her than if I had given her the ASA. However, I'll never forget my terror in the situation! My charge nurse really reamed me for it too. You bet I never forgot that and always make sure I gave the right med afterward!

Oh my goodness now I'm scared to death to take it! yikes! May I ask what study materials you used? I'm trying to determine the very best resources as I don't want to buy more than I need, but I do want to get the best ones! I wish you luck! Let us know when you find out if you passed!
