I have been a nurse for 2+ yr on a tely floor. I am trying to get to CCU, I love the heart. You guys above, I hope I can get there where you are :) As far as my floor we have a 24 bed unit. I hold 6 pt on my own 2 with a LPN (whom I take GOD for ...
First, never be ashamed or afraid to let managment know that your staff is not doing there jobs (when the tely techs leave, or any staff neglects their jobs). I mean we would be repromanded for that same thing as RN's why are any others of the staf...
I think this tread was a very good idea. Nurses do eat their young. I am two plus year into nursing and I see this all the time. It's like even the old NA's come down on the newRN's I mean what it that all about? There is plenty of stress for a ...

Rude Dr.'s = rude nurses!!!! I think a cold shoulder is just . I am not talking about Dr.'s whom are not normally in this manner. However, a Dr whom consistanly puts nurses down, I agree with Tonchito "Karate" :) Assertivness is needed......

When a pacer is going to be placed, the patient get teaching on this from an RN that does nothing but this. THis is b/c I am assumng the dr don't have time to explain all details plus the floor nurses don't alwasy know which type of pacer is being p...
I agree with glascow, if the pt was a substace abuser then his liver could have been the problem. The liver processes hemoglobin for vital use of it iron content. With out the liver working properly proper coagualtion could not have taken place.
Agnus, It's grea that you can step back & see there is a problem. I work with a few that are feeling like you feel but have not come to realize it. I think our comrades above have some really good advice for you. It's time for some "ME" ti...
when I did time with my preceptor everything went. That was the purpose. It was my senior yr of nursing a few months from graduation....my instructors wanted us to experience nursing as it truly was. We did like 80 hrs....so I was doing full 12 hr...
I have not transferred units before but am thinking of this in the near future. In the hospital I work you can simply bid on another job in any unit that has a posting. Then the person with the most senority gets the position. The actual tranfer h...
since hippa has been implimented I truly have not changed any patient care. I have never given info over the phone. I just say the patient is under our care & if you wish to know the condition call the patients room or come in & talk with th...
I am nightshifter, have been since I was 16 yrs old(now 24yr). I work 3 12's now since I became an RN 2+ yr's ago. I like night shift. Like all have said, management is cooler at night, however staffing can be ruff, more unsafe admits (more at on...
I truly don't believe that low rider pants & short tops are appropriate for a professional. I wear scrubs that fit not too big not too small. But then again I am not going to work for fashion. I figure I get paid to be there so I should do som...
I just explain to the family that this can be taken care of in the morning. If they are insistant upon calling I call. Most patients family whom want to get ahold of the Dr with persistants are well know to the Dr & the Dr has understood. But ...
Acuities are worthless b/c we are given the least amount of staffing as possible & would never be given any extra help if it were needed. I do mine every night just like I was told but I often wonder if anything would truly happen if I didn't
I can think of only one Dr at the hospital I work at the really truly disruptive. He is rude to the nurses calling for orders, demands this that we as nurses don't do, critical of our judgement, never can get ahold of him when ou need an order &...
lol....my arm is my best reminder!!!! I write last minute stuff & reminders on my hands & arms. I will not forget this way. If I have to stop heparin & restart at a different rate or draw a second set of bld cx, these things happen ove...
I have worked night shift for almost 10 years & I preferr nights to days. I personally do not need a lot of sleep so working my three 12's a wk does not mess with too much. As far as cancer is concerned...it's everywhere...in my family, both si...
I think that a nurse can smoke if they choose. But smoke not for a way to deal with stress. There are many other ways to deal with stress. Plus leaving the floor many times a shift takes away from patient care & puts more stress on your co-wor...
The first c/o SOB should have been reported to the doc, this was a change in the patient condition. Even if the tx made the assessment WNL. Second, the c/o chest pain should have been reported at the time of the complaint. Then the doc could have...
nurse patient ratios are a VERY important issue. It's one thing when all of your patients are oriented & do it your-selfers.....but when you start having cofussed, high matience patients that's were things get unsafe. I work on a telemetry unit...
