  1. I practiced in CA for only 4 months and am now moving to Ohio- and one interesting fact is some hospitals instead of giving a bonus will repay your student loans ONLY IF IT IS YOUR FIRST HOSPITAL JOB FRESH OUT OF SCHOOL. i had no choice of going to CA first, but now that i am headed to Ohio wish i was a candidate for this loan repayment option. So look into where you are moving, talk to hospitals, and see what they offer. I think the hospital i was looking at pays up to $10,000 in loans (don't know how many years you have to work for them for though to get that). just something to take into account
  2. this was exactly how it worked at the hospital i was at. We personally called other units to see if they needed the Dr, but the supervisor wanted to know what was going on with the pt and did want to make sure it was necessary to call the Dr in the middle of the night. We had more new grads on at nights, so it was appropriate in our hospital to speak with teh supervisor first
  3. in nursing school i had a classmate who had always planned on med school following nursing school. he said statistically only about 5% of MDs go to nursing school first...
  4. new grad starting at 28/hr in northern california

where i used to work there was a book you could sign (per shift) and have the charge nurse sign if you DID NOT get a lunch that day; then they wouldn't dock you 30 minutes when you didn't take it. it happened so often with it wasn't a nuissance to the charge, it everyone signed it once or twice a week.
