  1. I'm from quebec/canada and OMG this is just out of control. I work in a labor-delivery, mother-baby care and intermediate care nicu ward and on one of the week-ends (evening shift), there are only 4 regular staff members to cover the whole 3 units !!!! we would need 10-13 nurses depending on the number of patients admitted. nurses always have to double shifts (we are obligated to) we are overworked, tired, stressed out and have no quality of life and no family time.....I'm just sooo close to abandon the prefession all together....(even though I love what I do) what's the situation in your area Karine
  2. so I sent her an email and she agrees. I can go spend two evenings on the unit whenever I want (I'll be working evenings so I'll get aquainted with my team). I'm sooo nervous now!
  3. ok...those of your who have read my posts the past couple of days know I am trying to decide if I should take a position in a large LD unit in a new hospital...I currently have a PP, AP and NICU position which I like but I always was drawn to LD (when I transfer a AP patient going into labor, I always want to stay to see the outcome so this is what I just thought of doing would going in for a day or two and following one of the nurses around to see how everything is be odd looking to the staff? once again...thanks
  4. I am soooo with you on this....I'm trying to decide too this is so hard!!
  5. thats what I think too...now all I have to do is choose between a challenging but stressfull job...or one that I'm so familiar with it can get boring...but at least I can focus on my family and other stuff in my life
  6. I'v been a PP nurse (also NICU) for 6 years now...and I have 4 children. (14, 10, 3 and 8 months old) I'm supposed to start L/D in a new hospital in a few weeks (after my maternity leave) and I'm so scared...sometimes I wonder if I should just stay in PP and take the easy road... although I was kind of bored with pp and was thinking of doing LD for a few years (without actually having the guts to do it yet)
  7. I personaly would never want a full time position....I love my part time job which allows me to spend more time with my family. I pick up a few extra shifts when I need to and when I don't feel like it I stick to my part time schedule. best of both worlds IMHO
  8. what do you like and hate about both? what would be your fist choice and why? just trying to make up my mind!
  9. Hi there.... We have 4 couplets max...we often have 2-3 with one admission in our shift We also have aids who take care of bed making and trays and they also wash up and help us install our newly arrived csections. they awnser patients bells also apparantly we have it easy! sorry for my english....I'm not familiar with all the medical/hospital terms
  10. I'm about to go back to work after a maternity leave. I'm changing hospitals and taking on LD after 6 years of PP and NICU work. I'm sooooo scared...I just feel that mabye it would be best to just stay put and not worry about a new job where I have everything to prove all over again. or mabye I'm just chicken... I feel I am a good nurse and I know I won't have a hard time learning the ropes but working in a new environment, with new docs and new nurses and all just makes me so nervous. please help me get over this..... did you ever change jobs?...what is your experience?
  11. oh this helps alot....thanks so much....I'm writing all these down so I can go over them again before orientation anyone else?
  12. I saw that website but since I'm on maternity leave right now, I can't think of acronyms to look up...and I never worked with english charts before so it pretty hard to do this off the top of my head..... thats why I was asking for the most common used ones on LD units
  13. Hi all! this is my first post here on allnurses I'm a perinatal nurse working in montreal. I do post partum , antepartum and NICU. I'll be starting a new job in L&D in may. This will be in a new hospital (mainly english speaking). I'm very nervous about starting fresh.... although I am very familiar with LD terms, I'm lost when it comes to english acronyms and abreviations.... can you all list the ones you can think of? this would help out alot!! thanks :bowingpur
