  1. HI to all~ I absolultey agree, but I think our profession will be further enhanced as we start recognizing Nursing Education as a nursing specialty and create a pedagogy that is specific to teaching nursing. There are many roads that lead to becoming or working as effective teachers. I wouldn't think of denegrating any educator colleagues that may have chosen a different path than I did. I think that if we have someone new who is considering becoming a nurse educator, that we should think first of suggesting gradaute programs that are specific to nursing education, and I think the nursing literature and research really does support that sugesstion. We do need to accept the fact that many really good educators will come to us from clinical, administrative, and advanced practice roles and I think there is room for all! Diane
  2. Hi~ I did my FNP program online from the University of Nevada Las Vegas. You do have to go to Vegas a couple of times a year, but they were terrific and their program is exactly like the same classes as their traditional classes. They really help with loans etc. They have a great reputation and they help you arrnage your clinical work in your own area. Here is the link: http://nursing.unlv.edu/ Diane
  3. Hi Greg, I an not sure about everyone else, but I am actually finishing my PhD at UNLV and it is in Nursing Education. I think it is imperative that nursing education be considered separate and apart from the more traditional education route. I know UNLV has specifically chosen to offer graduate degrees designed specifically for nurse educators. They have an MSN in Nursing Education, a Post Master's in Nursing Ed, and the PhD in Nursing Ed. Here is their website: http://nursing.unlv.edu/ I think the university of Northern Colorado also offers specialized nursing education degress online. Diane
  4. It sounds like you have all the "right stuff" for nursing! I find it hard to believe that there is anyone in the US that can get by paying an RN $13 an hour. I think most hospitals in nevada start grads around $25-$30 an hour. I've been teaching for quite awhile and I think you have a created a very doable education plan. Stick with it, and do your best. The nursing world can always use bright and educated nurses, and you will definitley get a job. I woould contact the career center at your college and see if they can help you create a resume that really reflects your strengths and all of your edcuation. Good Luck!
  5. Wow! That is so great. I love getting up every day and knowing that I have the best job in the world. I love teaching nursing and I know you will too. Good luck on you interview!
  6. HI everyone I currently teach nursing at Great Basin College. I have a BSN from Graceland University, MSN from UNLV and I am currently finishing my PHD in Nursing Education UNLV. Hopefully I will be done with my dissrtation by the end of the summer. I teach advanced Med-surg and critical care in the ADN program and I teach Pathophysiology, Health Asssessment, and Leadership in our RN-BSN program. I have nursing experience in Emergency nursing, school nursing, hospital education, and I am also a family nurse practitioner. I love teaching more than anything. I am always thrilled to share any of the work I've created, so if you need forms, powerpoints, etc. Just let me know! I kind of like to believe as educators, we are all on the same team!
  7. Usually in a university setting you are required to do research and teach. At the CC level usually there is only teaching it also depends on if you have a PhD or a MSN.
