  1. Hi I realize this post is almost 4 years old, but do you mind sharing your experience (good and bad) at simmons?! I would really appreciate! I now am trying to decide between MGH and simmons now by week's end. Any help from anyone is appreciated! Thanks!
  2. Hi butch228, Thanks for the reply. You mentioned that you're an NP now, and even though you weren't in the direct entry program, do you feel that your program at MGH prepared you to be the NP that you needed? You mentioned there were some parts of the program that weren't great and some that were. What were those things? (Thanks so much for all your input thus far, it's been MOST helpful!)
  3. Congrats sheilanagig! I have a question, which phone number did they call of yours, is it your permanent address or cell phone or work? How do they know which number to call? I want to be available and there when they call!
  4. thank you so much birthrevolution! I really appreciate it! Congrats on getting in! I wonder why it takes so long for them to get back to us if all the replies are in last week already...thank you!
  5. Hey for those of you who already got into the MEPN class of 2008, can you please tell us poor alternate-listers when UCSF told you guys you have to make a decision/send in the deposit by? They told us that it "could be as late as June 16th" before they tell us whether or not we get in. i was wondering if that's because the deposit/decision date for those who got in is shortly before that? Anyone want to have mercy on me and tell me when UCSF's decision date is please? And for those of you who did get in and are going, will someone please reaffirm why they want to go to UCSF? I really do still want to go, but in the light of being waitlisted, I want to be reminded of why UCSF is so great, besides it's obvious reputation and because everyone says so? why are you guys going? Any replies would be MOST helpful!!! Please help! Thanks in advance! i really appreciate it!
  6. Thank you so much for your reply. I'm curious, what were some of the "wonderful things" you heard about the program and ultimately, why did you decide to go to the program? Thank you so much!
  7. As you can see, I'm trying to choose nursing schools. anyone currently enrolled in MGH-IHP or any graduates, what do you think of the program? What are its pros and cons? In general, I've heard good things about the program, but I've also heard that the teachings tend to be very "MGH-centered" as in they teach you that the MGH-way is the only way to do things, is this true? and if so, is that bad? Do you think that this program prepares you to be a nurse at other hospitals other than MGH? Does anyone know the ratio of student: professor for the pre-RN internship and the post-RN-specialty (Master's part) internship? On another note, Does anyone know if MGH have a palliative care subspecialty? Does the fact that MGH doesn't really have a "campus" affect the "school" feel of the program? Do you ever feel at a disadvantage because there's no real study center/library? Or is there one? Clearly, I don't know much about this program, please share! Any input on what you love or hate or other comments of the program would be most helpful! Thank you!
  8. Hi all, I'm currently torn between really wanting to go to UCSF (home for me) and a really lesser known, but still good school on the east coast. For those who are currently in the UCSF MEPN program, what do you think of it? What are its pros and cons? More specifically, what do you think of the professors? Are they good? Do you think that you're getting the individual time and attention you need to be a good nurse? At my interview, I head from a current MEPN student that the nursing shortage was affecting UCSF's teaching staff, in that most of their classes are taught by only one or two professors and that some of their classes have even had to be cancelled because there were no professors to teach them. Is this true? I fear that if I'm paying so much money to go to school, there won't be professors to teach me. I'm coming from a small liberal arts college and really like that small ratio of professors to students thing. I'm under the impression that UCSF is not the place for that, but even the larger school has its advantages. Any thoughts? What are the ratios of students to professors for the internships (pre-RN) and in the master's years? Do you feel that this program prepares you to be a competent nurse? I know that a lot of nursing schools have sub-specialties. Specifically, I'm interested in knowing whether or not UCSF has a palliative care subspecialty. Does anyone know? I knowt his post has been scattered, but I'm trying to make a decision. Any input about any pros and cons would be sooo helpful! Thank you so much!
  9. hey sheilanagig i feel your pain. i too am #1 on alternate list for my specialty. anyone know the liklihood of getting off waitlist? when i went for my interview, it seemed like ucsf was everyone's #1 choice. -_-0
