I don't think anyone has a problem with students having A's or 4.0's . From what I'm reading it's the attitude that the person thinks BECAUSE they got an A they are superior or will be super nurse...To me it doesn't matter whether you have A's, B's or C's as long as you are taking this nursing seriously and you aren't petty and mean spirited towards the students and instructors alike...We are all in this together..let's try and be positive so we can knock this thing out and be GREAT NURSES!!! Come to class (preferably on time), be considerate of others time ( quiet while lecture, tests), it's not hard to try and be a good person...Everyone needs to vent sometime...I also get tired of hearing the " You're sooo lucky you don't have kids" Luck has nothing to do with it, just because I don't have kids doesn't mean my life is perfect, I have struggles also but I try not to let it stop my goals..and still study and ask questions.. Waiting lists are a bummer! I'm a nursing student as well..I would recommend that you still go ahead and apply, but also look at other avenues of nursing that will help you reach the same or better outcome. Good Luck!!!

I am taking courses at a community college. I was planning to apply to two city colleges in October. I have taken all my pre-req's for the Associate Degree RN program. I originally planned to go straight for the BSN but I wanted to get a little experience in the nursing field first, right now my current job is well paying but it has NOTHING to do with nursing, so I'll be going into the nursing program without any experience only what I've learned from my pre req classes. I don't have CPR certification, a CNA license, an LPN certificate or any experience whatsoever working in the nursing field. My Problem: Only two of the city colleges are licensed and certified for the RN program..but they have a very long waiting list..should I do the LPN route in the meantime so I can quit my job and focus more on the nursing profession by being a LPN? Or should I continue to take classes towards my bachelors degree and wait to be accepted into one of the RN programs? Please ALL responses are welcome...

I was going to basically reiterate what the rest of the posters are all saying.."where there's a will, there's a way"!! don't give up, one semester is not a big deal. Maybe you can take an online class? Don't give up and don't let this one setback stop you from doing something you want to do..Twenties are not old! There are women in their fifties going back to school. It's ok to be bummed out for a minute..but next semester try to find different arrangements

Well this is fun! I wanna play too Everyone is excited about school...me too! :yeah: I am working a full time job that I like and is semi-flexible..well for the time being anyway..so a 5 day workweek with two days off Tues and Thurs. Work A&P II -T/TH 8:00-1:00 Statistics- T/TH 1:15-3:00 Med Term (Online) I'm excited! School resumes on Tuesday and I am excited to get back..(For Now) I am gonna be just the right amount of busy..not the crazy, want to murder people and cause all kinds of mayhem busy..but the gotta make time to study and cut out all the extra hanging out, kinda busy :typing:banghead:

You can retake science classes up to three times before you have to wait a couple of years to retake it. Some schools let you retake them in 5 years. I've never heard of a ten year wait. If you only took it twice, I'd retake it (but only in the Fall or Spring semesters and only on campus!!! You don't want to press your luck) After you get at least a C you can take the second half of A&P and try to get your highest score! Don't give up just try to get A's and B's in Micro, Chemistry and your other prereqs you need to get into a nursing program. Don't give up if this is something you really want to do. :redbeathe:nurse::redbeathe

I am interested in applying to the A.A.S RN degree and I have taken all of my prereqs, I had my heart set on going straight through to the RN, BSN program but my schedule at work won't allow for school hours for much longer so here I go with the A.A.S RN then working nurse and go back to school online (hopefully for my B.S.N ) My Question is I have A's and a couple B's in my General Education Requirements and I had a (gasp) C in the 1'st A &P and this semester I'm taking the 2nd half which I hope to get at the very least a B. Should I retake the A&P 1?? After this semester (in October) I apply for the RN program and I will only have the Nursing Curriculum to take. Should I retake the 1st A&P to get a better grade or "take one for the team" and just do my best from here on out? All advice is appreciated...

I am glad someone has decided to discuss this topic!!!! I am working full time for the City as a Supervising Clerk, I work 5 days a week and work every weekend to be able to attend classes on Tuesday and Thursday. I really want to become a Registered Nurse and I thought I was clear on my options to get there. I was going to work on my pre-reqs at my community college and graduate with a associates degree, then transfer over to a university as a junior and begin the nursing program and graduate with a bachelor's degree. However, now that I have begun taking the harder nursing classes, (Right now, I'm taking Microbiology and Human Anatomy & Physiology II) I hear students saying I should take the LPN program first. I don't know what to do because I want to become a really good nurse and most say if you startout as a RN you won't have a lot of experience and to just get it out of your head if you need to ask a LPN or RN for help because they won't help you...I'm so confused?! I also think if I can become a LPN first, I can make my own hours. Where I work now the hours are already set..mandatory 5 day workweek with 2 days off. Which is hard when you have to study and also have family obligations.. Any help for a struggling student?
