  1. 14 years nest month and counting!!! i am part time there and work at another hospital for a change of pace, but like the unit.

there was education, but i found out that i was recieving it after working the previous night. i also work prn, so only use it rarely. the hospital was already using it when i arrived. there are lots of complaints, but no solutions (the head nurse was told that she WOULD use it and WOULD like the system). i am also spoiled by the system my other hospital uses. it is so user friendly that meditech pales in comparison.

i work at two hospitals in central in. both use computer charting. at the smaller, more rural hospital, we use meditech. i like that it is more "all encompasing". all orders, assessments, results, etc. go into the same system. once you learn how to use it, you can retrieve information. unfortunatly, i work prn, and have never really figured it out. the info goes in, but is VERY difficult to locate again. very fractured. not user friendly. was a "cookie cutter program" not any flexibility. ------------------
  4. my hospital has had a customer focus for a while (we have "patient focused medicne" sa our advertising slogun). in my town (indy), there are multiple hospitals to choose from, and the hospitals are now all focusing on the "warm, fuzzy" aspects of being a patient. it does get irritating sometimes, but i can see the logic in it too. they say that if someone has a good experience, they tell 5 people, but if they have a bad experience they tell between 10 and 20. i have always said that my 4 years in food service has helped my with patient care. i have always thought about customer service (both patients and staff). good luck!

  6. my mother (an LPN)was caught and went through treatment. she was fortunate to have leadership, coworkers, and family who supported her. she continued to work in the same area, first as a nurses' aid, then as an LPN with restrictions after her license was reinstated. she was required to attend several support group meetings a week, and was able to deal with her situation. she also developed a friendship with her lawyer, who used to work for the board, and this helped as well. she has since retired (at 60), and is a very happy "whole" individual
