  1. what is a typical weeks work schedule like? Is it more often a forty hour week or much more? what time do you start and end your day? is it ever an 8 hour day or is it more common to work 10 or 12 hour days? how much vacation time do you usually take each year? Can you schedule a random day off if you need or want it or is it a big hassle? How are weekends and holidays handled?
  2. Thank you for sharing your experiences. I didn't think of the fact that we would be really remote and it may be hard for my husband to find employment. Driving a long distance to work would be something dfferent for me I only have a 15 to 20 minute drive to work now.
  3. Bumping this up in case anyone else has any info. Thanks
  4. Looking to get some information about working for IHS. I found the web site and have reviewed it but I would like to here some real life personal experiences from those who have been. I do have a husband and kids and we are looking to make a move. Thanks in advance for anything you can share
  5. How did you make out with this position? Any info you share about the hospital, salary, benefits, ratios etc.? Would love to hear it.
  6. Would love to know what your offer was as well. Looking at moving to the area in June/July 13. Feel free to PM it if you don't want to put it out there.
  7. Can you share what you are paying for your family health insurance coverage and dental and vision? Moving to Fl and hoping to have an estimate of how much will be taken out of my check every pay. I am guessing everyone is pretty much on a biweekly pay. Does anyone get a weekly paycheck anymore? Feel free to PM if you don't want to put iit out there. Thank You!
  8. Lost the post when the data loss occured so gonna bump it up again. Still looking at moving my son just graduated and my daughter graduates in June 13. Any info anyone has on pay rates, if there are jobs to be had, what are the best places to apply, anything at all ! Please share!
  9. Thanks for that reply. Another question would the nursing homes or home health pay better than the hospitals or is that the most profitable option in the area? I also had a question about apartments in the area I had a list of ones I looked at online that seemed to suit our needs do you know anything about them? Or which one seems to be in the best school district, I have a couple of kids to worry about Lamplighter Apts Underwood Ave Wellington Arms Redwood Circle Beauclerc E Burgess RD The Oaks Marlane Drive Villas at Jasmine Fields W Fairfield Jasmine Creek E Nine Mile Rd Cordova Regency Bayou Blvd Arbours at Ensley Sonnyboy Lane Heritage Apts N Davis Hwy Magnolia Crossing Magnolia Crossing Circle Briarwood Condos Olive Rd
  10. What information have you found on the salary so far? My understanding is that it is in the $22-$25 range? I make $25 now in PA on day shift hospital I would work nights in FL for the shift differential I never minded nights though.
  11. I also am looking to relocate in the next year. I have an RN and am in PA right now. Would also love info on salary and things. I have put up several posts and not gotten a whole lot of replies so I think there are not too many nurse from the area on this site.
  12. I am looking to relocate from were my family lives now. I would like to have a unique experience and do some good with my nursing career. I am married with 4 kids only 2 youngest would likely relocate with us. I am an ADN nurse I have 3 years experience working on a telemetry unit. I am wondering which locations would be best suited to our situation? I want to finish my bachelors and my husband would like the chance to start college courses so within reasonable distance of a college would be required also are there any locations that offer housing for employees that would be a major expense that would be nice not to have for my husband to go to school. Which locations are the safest for a family to live at I wouldn't have to want to worry about my house being broken into when I was at work or being carjacked on my way to work or something. I have heard there are gangs on the reservations and are there problems with them bothering medical staff thinking they carry drugs(pain meds/ benzos) around with them? We currently live in a fairly small city so my kids play on the street I live on and go back and forth to the neighbors houses to play without me worrying too much would that be something that would out of the question in these areas? I am a white girl so would I have a lot of problems with being an outsider ? Are there any locations that could suit my needs? Thanks for any replies or info you may have to share.

I hope you are feeling better.Getting sick and starting back to school on top of work = no fun! When I looked at the websites Magnolia Crossings and Arbours at Ensley are income restricted apartments, so they are no good. Which is funny cause they looked like one of the nicer ones based on pictures.

I am hoping to move sometime between Nov and March. Currently in PA. A girl I worked with up here moved to Pensacola and got a job at Sacred Heart very quickly her SO is stationed at the Navy base there. I have a list of apts that from my internet research seem to met my criteria pet friendly- pool washer -dryer connections. I have an 11 9 and 18 year old so ok areas for them. I would love to know which ones are safe and which ones sell crack in the parking lot Any info on any of these would be great! Are there jobs readily avaliable with experience ? I have 3 years on telemetry and ACLS certified. Right now am making $24.50 on day shift can I expect a similar pay and what are the shift differentials for eves or nights? Looking on the web sites of the hospitals in the area 3 12 hour shifts seem to be the norm are those with weekend rotation or can you get a shift with weekday only work in PA you work every other weekend there is no other option. Which hospital is the best to work for the main ones are Baptist ,Gulf Breeze, W FL Hospital and Santa Rosa are there others. Also the company I work for now has a hospital in Foley AL its N or S Baldwin Regional Medical Center I was thinking of transferring so I could walk right into a job is it a realistic commute and have you heard anything about that hospital.I would also be looking for an apartment for a year or two need pet friendly, I have 2 little dchshunds, with a pool I have a list of places that meet that criteria I gathered from online but would love to know which ones have a good or bad rep I have kids so I want to not be afraid of being broken into or too much craziness going on in the parking lots. More questions to come but I have to get ready for work!

Considering relocation to Pensacola. I am an RN have been working telemetry for 3 years. Any info on pay rates for hospital rates staff and per diem rates. What are nursing home home health or agency making? What are the shift differentials for eves and nights? Any other info on the area would be great. Can I expect to make $26/hr or is that an unreasonable figure?

  23. At my hospital we listen to report pre shift, it is normally taped but if it gets busy the previous shift will give a verbal report. Then we split the assignment so it is as evenly split as we can get it. Whoever was there the day before usually takes their patients back unless it means someone else would get several admissions. We split the discharges and transfers, heavy/diifcult pts, crazy families and pts going for procedures/or. This is a telemetry/ step down unit with a 4 patient ratio. We have two halls and two reports with a charge nurse but they have a full assignement and everyone works together as much as we can. I would want things to be done differently. The way we do this assignement really builds a sense of team playing, IMO, since it is fair from the start everyone jumps in to help when things gets a little hairier than expected. Since everyone had a say in who they were assigned no one feels like they were scr***d. This good because we all take turns taking the bad pt someone steps upp and say " I 'll take one for the team tonight" so no one always gets the pt from hell! Some days the pts are all bad but since it split fairly you at least know next time has to "betterish"!
  24. How long of an obligation would be owed can this be done AD or must all of it be RD? Can you transfer to AD before the total time is served RD? What is the benefit to drilling while in school does this count toward years of service?
  25. My local university does RN to BSN 1 night a week and gets you the BSN in 18 months. It is set up for working adults would this fly with the military? I think it is 6 credits per semester the classes run in 7 and 5 week sets per semster.
