Hi all! I am an experienced OB nurse of 5 years and am thinking of taking a per diem position so that I have more time with my son. Can you tell me what it is like to work per diem? Do you generally get notice when you are going to work or are you called in at the last minute? Can you say "no" to working certain days? How many days a week can you work? Thanks so much! I realize a lot of this is going to depend on the hospital but I just want to get a general idea of how this would work. Thanks!

I quit because I moved across the country to Colorado! I worked in L&D there for 5 years. It had its good and its bad but overall I really liked it.

Hi there. I worked there for 5 years and quit last summer so I don't know if they changed anything since then. To answer your questions: Vacation: 4 weeks plus 5 floating holidays. At 5yrs you get 5 wks vacation. Tuition: $10,000/yr reimbursed when you get your grades Insurance: 2-3 different options from low cost to expensive. Starts the 1st month of hire. Sick: I think you earn 1 day/month. Hope that helps!
